| I haven't played one myself, but a friend did. I can't remember what type of unit he was off hand. It was set at a higher level so we had money to spend and he made a bunch of different skill programs set in different disks. So depending on what the group was doing he would insert the needed disc into himself.
Had different discs set up with the skill points for the level just in different skills and ranks. I.E. pilot & computer use, fighting skills, sneaking skills, talker skills, and etc.
Although depending on the GM it can be looked at as being broken.
Star Wars Gamer #3 is all about droids and very helpful. | |

| | I played one a while back in a Starwars D6 game. If I can recall corectly I was some sort of assassin droid built by the empire, with some sort of disguise. I think I looked like some sort of hooded alien... maybe a realy tall Jawa. My character was on the run from both the Empire and the Rebellion, it was an interesting little game. | | Pathetic Earthlings. | Broken? Nah.
GMs simply need to insert strong magnets at bad positions for the droids to deal with! [:D] "These aren't the stolen skill tapes you're looking for!"
Remember, though, droids are cut off from the Force. It can potentially do significant harm to the character. No burning a FP for a must-make save. | | Trade & talk in real time on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis SOFTWARE: PC | PC (free) | MAC

| It does prove tricky to play a droid. I've had players do it with some success in the past, but the lack of Force Points does usually prove disastrous to them. Who doesn't need the occasional boost?

| (bear in mind I have no knowledge of SW d20)
Seems like droids would be resurrectable, as opposed to living things in SW. Make a backup disk of your personality and knowledge, keep it somewhere safe, and if you get blown to scrap, have someone load it up into a new body. | | "Why am I all sticky and naked? | | This turned out to be a non issue for us, as the player in question chose to play a pilot. I was looking through my alien species book for d6 starwars and one of the races in there is kind of gross. They are called the Shards, and that's exactly what they are. Living crystals. They can electromagnetically interface with machines, and can control droids that have restraining bolts. The book actually recomends them if you want to have a character that is a droid, but not a droid. The worst part is that they have 0D strength and Dexterity, but 6D max in their tech attribute. Basically you can max all attributes because they don't have to buy dex and str, AND they get +2D on computer use checks. Potentially, a shard controlled droid could be very, very, nasty. | | Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.--Dylan Thomas

And as a GM, I'd "just say no." | | "We can't stop here...This Is Bat country!"

| That is the one problem with droids. They can make skill checks like crazy -- and I mean really high, really sick skill checks. They can reprogram themselves to do different skills, move ranks around, and such.
They are awesome support characters. Heck, a gaming acquaintance had a droid backpack made. It would do search, spot, and listen checks like mad. Heck, it even had a decent masterwork vocabulator in it. All of this, and it still held like 6kg of stuff (thermal detonators) inside.
They're mad fun for support. | | Trade & talk in real time on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis SOFTWARE: PC | PC (free) | MAC

| | I think the Assassin droid I was playing did die due to the large number of thrermal detanators he carried with him. | | Pathetic Earthlings. | | That was the thing. Nothing ever attacked the backpack. The game dissolved, but the backpack remained! | | Trade & talk in real time on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis SOFTWARE: PC | PC (free) | MAC

| | Funny thing is this game happened years before Futurama aired. The Assasin droid had the compartment in his chest ala bender, sort of had his bad additude as well. | | Pathetic Earthlings.
