| The problem with multiclassing a monk with most classes/prestige classes is the restriction on gaining levels in monk after taking a level of something else.

| | I played a Warlock/Hexblade for a little while, and while that was cool, I don't feel that the Warlock really complements most classes that it becomes part of. There is little that would be added to the monk by being a warlock, and vice versa. | | "We can't stop here...This Is Bat country!"

| | You can't go back to Monk after multiclassing, but a lot of interesting combos can be created by starting Monk and just switching out after a number of levels. I call it "Leaving the Monastery." | | "It's an automatic robot, based on science." | |

| Yeah, the whole monk/paladin not being able to go back is kinda penalizing, so I think that it should be made like that for barbarians too.
Just out of curiosity, is it legal to take levels in something (say, fighter) then switch to paladin or monk? | | Call me: W.N. Gobo! originally posted by grim: While he is clearly insane, he does have a point.

Yes.
You can either: (1) add level(s) of paladin and continue as paladin the rest of the time. (2) add level(s) of paladin, then add level(s) of something else.
NOTE: Once you add a level of non-paladin class, after having at least one paladin level, you cannot add any more paladin levels without a certain feat. I don't remember what the feat is called, though. | | "Look to God and live." Alma 37:47 Vindicated Champ of Hippogriff (Arcadian Hippogriff) and Uncommon Horse

| Complete Adventurer has the Ascetic/Devoted chain of feats which allow certain multiclass combos with Monk and Paladin respectively.
The only splice I've ever seen with Warlock is Rogue. Eldritch Blast is a nice delivery system for sneak attack, while the Leaps and Bounds invocation is handy for a Rogue. Hideous Blow, Leaps and Bounds, Devil's Sight or Dark One's Own Luck are all handy Least invocations. | | Support awesome games: Play Hecatomb!

| You do realise I have to kill you now B. Besides, its Shinkuu Hadouken, or Messatsu Gouhadou if you're evil, if you want to go the classic fireball slinging monk. I'd rather Yamai Barai or Reppuken though, or best of all, Sacred Edge.
Yeah, I play WAAAAAY too many fighting games.

Y'know....I get that WAY more often than you would expect [:D]

| | Sid's hexblade/warlock had that. It was gross....he used a greatsword. He managed to kill an npc that was sent to assassinate us before any of us, or the asassin, could react. 4d6+str+critical hit=nasty. | | Warlock/Monk would possibly be right out of the question in a lot of games, just because the only by-the-book legal alignment combination is lawful evil. | | Anson on WotC boards | |

Nice job, Sid. Did that leave the DM hanging, trying to figure out what to do since that didn't work? | | "Look to God and live." Alma 37:47 Vindicated Champ of Hippogriff (Arcadian Hippogriff) and Uncommon Horse

Warlock: Any Chaotic or Evil Hexblade: Any nongood.

It wasn't too bad. It just meant that that night the characters all went to the tavern and relaxed and then later got attacked by a whole gang of thugs.
