Let me see... I have several inspirations for characters most of them end up being overly exagerated aspects of my personality or enviroment through my life. I have a Battlerager that is heavily inspired by Drowning Pool "Bodies". Alot of my elven characters are inspired by Loraina Mckennet music. My priestly character's are usually drawn from within. I pick an aspect of my personality I want to emphasis or personify, from that I ask myself well what god/goddess in this world would that aspect of my personality be drawn to. I am currently writing background for a priest of Bacchus the Roman god of wine and revelry. I am in the mood to play to my bravado, carousing nature, and playful debauchery. THe character is not evil though some view his habits unseemly if not bordering of the self destructive. His reason for adventuring I already have figured out. He wishes to travel the world and "sample" the alcoholic offerings, and begin a line of "dungeon spirits" collecting ingredients from the surrounding areas and the dungeon proper to bottle the essence of the place so that others may share in the adventures of his life. He may take levels in Bard at some point. If you listen closely you can hear the min/maxers scream at the sheer inefficiency of it. That being said if you can think of any ispirational material for this character musical/literal/cinematic/historical or otherwise, I would forever in your debt. I hope I have delivered you what you sought.

Last homebrew D&D world I created featured a template creature called the wretched, inspired by NIN's "The Wretched"

A friend of mine does these awesome and funny drawings of goblins, and so I always think of them to inspire the personalties of my goblins.

Nowadays, I teach a lot of students who are into fantasy, so every now and then I tell them they can paint whatever they want, and see if they paint anything I can adapt or be inspired by.

I used to be into Cyberpunk 2020 and was one day making up a character whilst listening to JJJ's Hottest 100 (a national radio station here that runs an event every year to find the top 100 favourite songs of listeners, then they play every song in order throughout one day) and on came "More Human Than Human" by White Zombie.

Well... let's just say that inspired me to write up one of my all-time favourite characters. Since then, I've also developed a movie-plot around him and every so often, hear a song that I figure will be on the soundtrack which further inspires me to keep writing about it and other characters in it.

Bite me.

The song "Defender" by Man O War inspired me to create my first Heroic type PC for D&D.

I know one guy in my group that fits that description.

Back when I was playing Rifts and 'Bad Habit' by Offspring was all the rage it inspired a character of mine. Let's just say he was a bit of a problem child. [)]

And you can only guess what kind of character I designed after listening to Denis Leary's @$$hole song. :whistles innocently:

LOL. My current PC I use was created while listening to "Voices" by Disturbed. My fellow Pcs aren't sure what to make of him.

I played Dragostea Din Tei (Under the Linden Tree) by O-Zone while making my new rogue character. He came out kind of like the song. Sounds great and carefree untill you understand what it is about.

Can't point to specifics. Squashed in my head are life's experiences. Different characters come out for different campaigns.
As a kid I wanted to be an altar boy, but never made the grade. Maybe that's why I favor divine classes.

I have always been here.

Hmm, it depends on character/campaign.

Most of the time it is either classical music or film scores. I did a whole adventure (actually an LC adventure) that was based on Vaughn-Williams "English Folk Song Suite.". Sense that is based on old Enlgish Folk Songs, I guess you could say I am also inspired by folk songs. I tend to be more inspired by music then anything else.

I listen to music, a lot, for inspirations.

Nightwish in particular. Nightwish has inspired a whole adventure for me! ^_^ Songs in particular were Beaty and the Beast, Bless the Child (+1 to hit! w00t!), Crownless, She is my Sin, Nemo and Ghost Love Score. The lyrics turned out to be VERY fitting, even though I looked up hte lyrics AFTER I wrote it, and am frankly quite spooked.

Manowar? Sounds like an inspiration for a violent campaign, FUN! Speaking of manowar, I see them in concert in... 14 days! [:)]
