| Well first off let me say congrats for even thinking of taking this large step. You seem to have a very good start on things.
Back when I worked on my world for a book (kinda the same?) I started wtih a map, and like you put things where they should go, and explained why they lived like that.
The only piece of advice I can give is pay close attention to you're gods.
WNG in my book the way you are introducing the players to you're world is great. The players do not know about the history, and every little city name. Makes great for sudden changes in things. You don't have to have an hour long talk with the wizard/bard in the group [:D]. | | "...don’t try to outweird me, I get stranger things than you free with my breakfast cereal." - Zaphod Beeblebrox Champion of the Nymph!

| I've been working on my homebrew since 1986.
Trust me, that's nowhere near as impressive as it might sound. | | WotC - making me wish more and more every day for a return to the TSR days. :(

| Just for kicks, I'm posting details of a "subrace" of orcs. They're not actually different from normal orcs stat-wise, except for the following exceptions:
Orcs of Morzad Fortress. +2 Strengh, -2 wisdom,-2 charisma No Darkvision Not dazzled in bright sunlight. Favored class, fighter alignment, usually neutral evil.
The orcs that now inhabit the region known as Morzad fortress were conquered by the Red Blade Clan of hobgoblins as it rose to power over 5 hundred years ago. Although there has been several attempted orc rebellions since, none suceeded in overthrowing the Red Blades, and there has been no rebellions in the last 2 hundred years. Over this long stretch of time, the orcs gradually entered the cities, and were forced to intagrate with the heavily structured hobgoblin society. They abandoned their chaotic ways, although they did not become as structured as the hobgoblins. The city life made them lose their fear of daylight, and due to the murderous nature of hobgoblin cities only the smarter orcs survived, at the same time, not having to hunt and fight constantly sapped their strengh. Now they usually fight alongside the Red Blade soldiers in heavy full plate armor with huge razor sharp greatswords in hand.
Note, Morzad fortress is actually a large valley that is called a fortress due to the surrounding mountain walls. | | Call me: W.N. Gobo! originally posted by grim: While he is clearly insane, he does have a point.

| I play with ideas all the time. I'll think of an idea and then it blossoms into a full blown campaign setting. It's kind of like I'm just sitting around and an idea comes to me and BOOM.....new setting.
My problem is finishing what I start. | | WotC - making me wish more and more every day for a return to the TSR days. :(

It's evolved a bit (I spent two days sitting in a hotel room with the core rulebooks working on it.) The map has been completely changed, as has much of the tone (it's going to be a little darker now, with a little more high fantasy but perhaps lower then usual magic).
Hobgoblins still play a large roll, but have been integrated into the history a little better. The main historical event was that the elves were loosing a war against the hobgoblins on a continent near to the main one, and in a last-ditch effort to win unleashed magic that destroyed the land, splitting the continent into dozens of small islands, and all contact with the mainland stopped. After several hundred years the hobgoblins rebuilt their empire, enslaving all of the monstrous races inhabiting the shattered continent, and then (just as the game starts) invade human lands across the sea.
There is a large southern continent as well, but that will play less of a role in the campaign, at least to begin with...
Now I have to finish devoloping the history, adding names and adventure hooks, stuff like that.
Thanks for the question btw. | | Call me: W.N. Gobo! originally posted by grim: While he is clearly insane, he does have a point.

| You'll need to work on some 'global' schemes that the PCs might eventually be caught up in. How long for instance is the campaign going to run? Does it have a fixed life, e.g. abt L12 chatacters. Or is it going to be perpetual? You'll want several NPC arch-villain types and they will want to have their own agendas and networks. The four races you mention are a good start. This will help with storyline as opposed to a series of unfortunate events. A good start, a broad plan, then the PCs create havoc and you need to continually revise/adapt as events unfold. Much fun, and well done on plunging in at the deep end. | | I have always been here. | |

I can't actually say how long the campaign is going to run as I just moved and no longer have any players, nor any real prospect of getting any, so at this point it's more something to design and have fun with then to actually use in the near future, I'll see about working in some archvillians though, thanks for the idea (liches here we come, hehehe...) | | Call me: W.N. | | Lack of players for a PnP campaign is a common problem. Have you given any consideration to the idea of an online game via RogerWilco or paltalk or somesuch? Lord knows I'd be interested in finding a game like that. | | Featherfall??! Who needs featherfaaaalll. .

What the hell did I do before I found maxminis??!! Not only have I gotten into DDM on Vassal, one of the best entertainment values to be had, but now I'll be back in the saddle on PnP. The Maxminis community is a great source of information. It is also one of the politest groups I've seen. (That or the mods are diligent about removing offensive posts.)
Thanks for the info. | | Featherfall??! Who needs featherfaaaalll. .
