I use little wooden rounds you can find at any craft store. Paint 'em up black, and they look very similar.

Been many a moon since I've done it but I used to buy a flat sheet of plastic (black) from the local craft store, place it on top a piece of scrap wood and then use a hole drill bit to cut however many circles you want/need. Seems like a lot effort typing it out here but was quick, painless and gave me something better then cheap wooden versions.

You see! There ARE others out there just like me. What? Why are laughing?

Just use something called a hole saw in your drill. This will sound incredible, but I just got this idea in the bathtub this morning. Bases are pretty amazingly expensive. ($4.00 for two?!?) Obviously, you want a 1" saw. They are surprisingly easy to use if you have a decent drill.

Here's one for quick viewership.

The bad news is that this will leave a hole in the center of your base, but you can fill it with an epoxy and then paint it if you want to.

Not at Lowe's if that's what you were wondering. I wouldn't even buy from there if I were you. $4 seems kind of expensive for that.

I just wanted to show him a picture of what I was talking about. "Hole saw" isn't very descriptive, especially since it's not even really a saw.

[EDIT] I just realized the direct link doesn't show the image, but forces you to enter your zip code before you can view the image. :-(

You can enter any kind of five-number combination you want, though, so it really doesn't matter.

If voting could really change things, it would be illegal.

I own one of those little Dremmle (sp?) tools. Came with a bunch of sanding/grinding heads that I used to touch up any rough spots. The smaller ones (for single figures) didn't ever really need it but a few of the bigger ones I tried required some rounding to smooth a few burrs. The larger version bit is one they use to cut holes for doornobs and such to give you an idea of size range.

Wouldn't it be easier to just cut a bunch of Human Commoners off their bases and use "recycled" DDM bases?

If you have a bunch of minis you don't want, then yes. That's why I can't believe people can sell bases for $2.00 each. It's cheaper to buy minis online and then cut the mini off the base.

But if you don't have a bunch of minis you want to throw away, this is another cheap option. The advantage to cutting your own is that the surface is perfectly flat. If you cut off the old mini you can gouge the base.

Bah. Just go for those little wooden discs. One inch and 40mm sizes are already made. Just paint or buy a permenant marker and viola.

As an added trick, paint/color them different colors and stick them under your regular DDM for ease of identification.
