| | Lies. its not to hard, and I think is a good riddle for a game, as it will make them think but isnt so hard it will bring the game to a grinding halt. | | Im out- find me on Hordelings if you want to chat. | |

| | Yeah, I didn't have too much of a problem with that, but I have been in games where we have resorted to brute force when a "simple" riddle couldn't be answered. It didn't end well.... | | Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.--Dylan Thomas

ive had a game where a player almost went to throwing punches when a riddle couldnt be gotten. He was going nuts about it driving the game to a halt and riddles suck (he was partially right), the DM was being a prick and called him a whiner and told him to shut it or hed be asked to leave. It got real ugly. | | Im out- find me on Hordelings if you want to chat.

| I used to have problems thinking up good riddles for games until I came across cloud kingdom games. They have some excellent riddle books and every week they send out a new riddle on their mailing list, which vary in quality from week to week. I picked up their Theives Island adventure which was very easy to convert to D&D and a lot of fun for the players. Here is a link to their website http://riddles.cloudkingdom.com

| | Whoa! We had nothing like that....It just turned into a night of random violence and vandalism (in game). I don't think there was a single unbroken surface/item in the entire place after our pc's were through.[:D] | | Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.--Dylan Thomas

| | Though I am personally quite bad at solving riddles, I realize there is some history of riddles as part of games. I do see that if the DM gives no other way for the story to advance without the riddle being solved, there could be times when the story simply wouldn't advance. If I were the DM, I would make it more flexible--like, sure the story won't advance in that direction, but there's these other directions the players can choose. | | "Look to God and live." | | I'm slow...I still don't get the connection between "I'm told in knowledge" and lies. I guess I am unfamiliar with some expression. | | "Look to God and live." Alma 37:47 Vindicated Champ of Hippogriff (Arcadian Hippogriff) and Uncommon Horse | |

| Excellent riddle. The "white" clue gives it away pretty quick I think.

I think it means told as in a poker player's tell gives away the truth. Knowledge reveals a lie for what it is.
I love a good riddle in a game. We've been pretty fortunate that a riddle really hasn't ever bogged down a game session. My problem is that I and one other guy in our gaming group are the two DMs and we've been friends since we were in Kindergarten. We've developed what almost is telepathy, and if one of us thought it up, the other can solve it in about ten seconds usually. We used to call it "Connceted at the brain". The only difference is I know his weakness is math and number puzzles, so if I use one he gives up from the start and lets the girls handle it.[}:)]

| | "Told in knowledge" just means it's not a lie unless the person knows it not to be true. It's the weakest part of the riddle, but it worked well with "repeated in ignorance," which is a good clue, I thought. | |

| I always find it hard to determine what will be easy or hard for my players. Some riddles that I thought were easy turn out to be difficult...some that I thought were stumpers, they got on the first try. I actually have the same problem with determining Challenge Rating from time to time as well.
I try to limit the riddles to non-critical situations. For instance if its a solve the riddle to proceed scenario, I usually give them more ways of getting to where they need to be, or making the section that the riddle is "guarding" an optional section of the dungeon. | | Rhane "The focus is sharp in the city..." | A nice riddle, but the "white" thing is a real dead giveaway. You might want to try something like
"When I have no hue, my intentions are good"
Just to make it less obvious. Nice one, though. I might try it sometime.

That makes sense. I was just lost before the explanation. That usually happens with me and riddles. [B)] | | "Look to God and live." Alma 37:47 Vindicated Champ of Hippogriff (Arcadian Hippogriff) and Uncommon Horse
