Merric,
Yeah, I have seen those discussions. Heros of Horror has not really caught my interest yet. I want to see a couple of reviews first.
The Fiendish Codex does sond very interesting, but as it not going to be released until Next June, I am not as excited about it as a book coming out in two months.

| Well,
According to a news bit at the WotC website, the Spell Compendium is now at the printer. Whatever is in there for us is now locked in.

With the amount of crossover between these two I'm actually really happy they aren't doing that.
Now if only this book came with something like a CD with text documents of all the spells. I have every book put out by WotC, and the main problem I always get is the amount of time pouring through books takes. I wish I could just go ahead and copy/paste the file descriptions into a file and just print that out. | | Champion of the Beholder and Beholderkin

| A CD would be great, better yet I'd like a mini DVD! So little space so cute! [:D]
Another option would be for WotC to do it online but without full details like they did last week with feats from of the books. | | "I was sittin' here eatin' my muffin, drinkin' my coffee, replayin' the incident in my head, when I had what alcoholics refer to as a moment of clarity." - Jules Winnfield Sales/Trades Bad (1): Ironfist Boulderbender Trades/Sales completed (8.): Danthl, Dafrca, Garyaxe, qillan_dvra, realmaster, Vandal_Savage, cavedweller, unearthed arcana. That is an excellent idea. I doubt it will happen, however, as it might be seen as cutting down on book sales.
And, to hijack my own thread, I think the list of feats on the website likely means we will not see a compilation of feats book soon, as that part is being provided free?
Well, all specualtion of course. Let's see what we find out on Thursday.

Probably won't be enough for any of us, but that wouldn't stop WotC from doing it. November Previews are up ...
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20051104a
The bit about the Spell compendium reads as follows:
So, like I said last month, if you've got a spellcasting character, you're going to want to feast your eyes on this 288-page smorgasbord of spells. Designed to be the ideal companion to your Player's Handbook, the Spell Compendium is a hardcovered compilation of the most useful/popular/useful spells gathered from over a dozen D&D supplements and a pile of articles published here on the fabulous D&D website as well as in the invaluable monthly resource you all know as Dragonmagazine. So, not only can you lessen the number of books you lug around to each game, but you probably can discover a number of new spells you never knew you couldn't live without.
So, what's actually in there? Starting from the back of the book, you'll find an exhaustive list of domain spells as well as class-by-class spell lists of what you'll find inside the book. (Again, all of this information complements the lists you'll find in the Player's Handbook, but does not incorporate or replace them.) After all of that, what's left is page after page after page of spells -- 244 pages of spells to be more accurate. Last month, I showed you the back-of-book text. This month, I thought I'd give you a look at just one of the vast array (I don't even want to think about counting them) of spells you'll find inside those covers. (Take note of the italicized text between the stat block and the standard description of the spell -- each spell's entry now includes a brief, but illustrative, description of what transpires as a character actually casts it.)
CHAIN MISSILE Evocation [Force] Level: Sorcerer/wizard 3 Components: V, S Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Long (400 ft. + 40 ft./level) Target: One creature, plus one more creature/2 levels (each of which must be within 30 ft. of the primary target) Duration: Instantaneous Saving Throw: None Spell Resistance: Yes
Bolts of pale blue energy spring forth from your finger and slam into the desired target. An instant later, the bolts bounce away toward other creatures, slamming into each one.
Missiles of magical energy dart from your fingertip to unerringly strike a creature. The missiles strike one creature initially, then spring to other targets. Each missile deals 1d4+1 points of force damage. One missile strikes the primary target per two caster levels, to a maximum of ten missiles (dealing 10d4+10 points of damage). After the missiles strike, they ricochet to a number of targets up to the number of missiles created by the spell. Each secondary target takes 1d4+1 points of damage, as if struck by a single magic missile. You choose secondary targets as you like, but they must all be within 30 feet of the primary target, and no secondary target can be struck more than once. You can choose to affect fewer secondary targets than the maximum (to avoid allies in the area, for example). Missiles without a secondary target do not ricochet off the primary target.
Spells, magic items, and abilities that protect against magic missile (such as the shield spell or a brooch of shielding) also protect against this spell. If the primary target has that sort of protection, the spell has no effect against it but still springs to all secondary targets. (A brooch of shielding loses a number of charges equal to the number of missiles hitting the creature?up to ten missiles.) If spell resistance causes the spell to fail to harm the primary target, the spell fails and missiles do not ricochet to additional targets.
The missiles strike unerringly, even if the targets are in melee or have anything less then total cover or concealment. You cannot single out specific parts of a creature to strike. This spell cannot target or damage inanimate | | Successful Trades: 77 * Pending Trades: 0 * Bad Trades: KONG (B.W.) Trade History * Trading Thread * Sales Thread * Winnipeg Meetingplace

It will definitely be handy, will it just be domains listed in other non-campaign setting sources (Such as the Draconomicon or Complete Divine) or will they include everying that's appeared in Forgotten Realms and Eberron? | | "I was sittin' here eatin' my muffin, drinkin' my coffee, replayin' the incident in my head, when I had what alcoholics refer to as a moment of clarity." - Jules Winnfield Sales/Trades Bad (1): Ironfist Boulderbender Trades/Sales completed (8.): Danthl, Dafrca, Garyaxe, qillan_dvra, realmaster, Vandal_Savage, cavedweller, unearthed arcana. That is the question now. I am hoping that they will include all domains from the Complete series, Campaign settings and the monster books.
I don't expect to see domains from the Mature series and from the "Heros of" series, but I could be wrong.
Maybe once the designer interview goes up we will know.

| Don't expect the 'Mature' stuff myself, but now that I know the book has them, (I've embraced this as not an only arcane supplement) I'm anxious to see what domains we get!
Also have to agree the Hero books (I assume they have them) aren't likely to be published since they are both very new. I am fond of the 2e spell compendiums as well. Too bad this book will not be an all inclusive book of published spells to date like the spell compendiums were. Well thats if the 3.5 lasts long enough to do another book of spells. I liked the format of the old book, very completist, including AD&D 1.0 stuff.
The spell production was much better in the old days IMO. I think we're getting fewer spells in the books.
BTW I just not happy with the content and prices of the current books, too much fluff like "adventure locations" (ie stuff that should be a module, not a book). | | Lord Storm

| Hello,
News about the Spell Compendium Vol. 1 is now starting to leak out. It seems that copies were on sale at GenCon SoCal.
More information is found:
http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=157452
For my interest it looks like we have a total of 65 domains in the work. I don't recognize all of the names, but for anyone else interested:
Domains are:
Balance Cavern Celerity Charm Cold Community Competition Courage Craft Creation Darkness Deathbound Domination Dragon Dream Drow Dwarf Elf Envy Family Fate Force Glory Gluttony Gnome Greed Halfling Hatred Hunger Illusion Inquisition Liberation Lust Madness Mentalism Mental Mind Moon Mysticism Nobility Ocean Oracle Orc Pact Pestilence Planning Portal Pride Purification Renewal Retribution Rune Scalykind Slime Sloth Spell Spider Storm Suffering Summoner Time Trade Tyranny Undeath Wealth Windstorm Wrath
Planar Domains
Abyss Arborea Baator Celestia Elysium Hades Limbo Mechanus
My thanks to Gothmog over at ENWorld.

Good to see a lot of the good ones in there. No problem. I just realized that I have the date wrong as well. December 2nd is the first Friday of the month.
Hopefully your local store will have a lower price than $53.95. The Canadian dollar has increased in price enough that the price differential that WotC cites is not appropriate in my opinion. Of course, there is always Amazon.ca.

Hmmm....40 min drive for good price vs. 5 min drive for bad price. I think that WoTC needs to look at that canadian price again....

I am with you on the price. I can understand WotC's position, however, as if the Canadian dollar takes a hit again and goes down suddenly, they could take a large loss.

True, but as I understand it WotC's cut of the sale is based upon MSRP.
A moot point in general, however, as it sounds like both of us will be buying the book soon after release. WotC has our money no matter what.

The Canadian dollar has been consistantly up at less than 20% exchange for over a year. Yes WotC charges us 30+% on every book. Our economy is, while not exactly booming, performing well enough to sustain such an exchange rate for the forseeable future. It is simply using the mindset here in Canada that our dollar is weak against the US greenback to squeeze that extra bit out of the Canadian consumer. | | Completed Trades: Crescent Hawk, Vimes, demagogue, vidman, Eric is God, Strachan Fireblade, FungiMuncher, Dudeeehm, Shasack, gausse, kyrin, nyjastul69 Champion of the Remorhaz
