Just check out the character optimization forum on the Wotc website and you will see how eaisly it is to "optimize" any character to get +100 to hit and equally ridiculous damage using 3.5e. I have had problems in the past with players who powergame and end up causing a rift between the players. As a DM you have to be very careful with what you allow and its usually a good idea to keep tight reigns over any powergamers you may have in your group. With each successive edition of D&D, powergaming has become more of an issue and eaiser to get out of hand quickly.

One problem I have found is the ability to have players that can do far more damage in one round that they have hit points. Most opponents that they can beat they will beat in 1 or 2 rounds. Creatures that can stand up to them can easily kill the players. So your stuck with having fights that are unsatisfingly quick or far to dangerous for the players. it is kind of hard to explain why some beast that they are fighting has 200hp but only its for 1d6+3
