I don't know anything about the specific product you are talking about. However, this is a response to the above statement you made.

Historically, in earlier editions of D&D, assassins were a subclass of the rogue. I see the connection on the underhanded/sneak attack connection with the rogue and assassin. I see the connection between bards and rogues through the acting/con artist/performing side of the rogue. The title relates much more to the bard/rogue than to assassins, in my opinion.

ADD: Sometimes, assassins go in disguise, which requires performing ability. The stealth assassin would not be using disguise, but there are many methods assassins use to accomplish their purposes.
