| Litorian runs a DragonLance, Age of Mortals game on Sundays via IRC.
IRC really is easy to use, and is far less "clunky" than Vassal.
If anyone ever wants to give it a whirl, check the first line in my signature. [:D] I really would like to have another place for MM members to speaketh freely! | | Trade & talk in real time on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis SOFTWARE: PC | PC (free) | MAC

| | One of our regular group members got himself married and moved to Arizona. Consequently, he's been on a game jones for such a long time. I would love to try something like this out, however, I don't have a camara. | | Vindicated Night Below Champion of the Digestor!!! | | if you can get some voice software like teamspeak it can cut down on typing there by speeding up your game, there are plenty of online dice rollers, the only thing you would need is some way to get around combat but vassal could do that, you would be looking at a longer game in general but its better than nothing | | BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS | |

| | My brother and I have talked about it, especially since he just moved to Pennsylvania, and the other guy we game with is over an hour away from me. He has a web cam, and he has tried it with the 3rd in our group. They said it wasn't too bad. I think they used Teamspeak as the voice program. | | Have/Want list: http://maxminis.com/hwlist.asp?user=tomas Reference thread: http://maxminis.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6938 Trades Completed(51):Unearthed Arcana, arcabious(x2), Noghri, phrennzy, jgsugden, BigBC, maniacal_mini_monger, cyderakk, Chaotic Good, symbiotesx2, Nixlord, dagonet(x2), Red Ranger, Zaukrie, Thatoneguy, Schooly_D, arbados(x2), scottbis, Thailfi(x2), Chiaroscuro, dumdragon, jedijon, DrX, ckissee, time bandit, the1ring, scallamander, sttmxn, Lance H, qstor, Thor, glumag, Urban Druid, xuthal, jaidenshea, Ghendar, Nurvel, raymo13, ickthegreat, Primarch, WakeXX, kyrin, Crisisman, desiderata, smetzger, Vrecknidj, Frostrune Trades Pending(): BAD TRADES(3):Satsujin Kingyo, Wraith, Yo Hon Email: thompmar@hotmail.com | |

| To play with three people using VASSAL you would need to modify the skirmish mod file to allow three players. But I say give it a try!
Since my group runs not only D&D but d20 Modern with this setup, I've started to put together a VASSAL mod that's more, well, modern with respect to the tiles, walls, units, etc. It's also geared more toward being able to build decent maps piece-by-piece rather quickly. | | Noble Sage

Doesn't VASSAL already allow four players?
Skype is a good cross-platform voice over IP program for this sort of thing.
There's also OpenRPG which IIRC, is designed for this, although I've never managed to get it to work. There was also something called... Klooge? Or Kluge? Or something like that. Never looked into it fully enough though. | | Bite me.

| My old group just started running games online using OpenRPG. There are some other options out there which weren't quite as good for us, for one reason or another (but YMMV): WebRPG.com OpenRPG.com Screen Monkey klooge.werks Fantasy Grounds Ghostorb.com | | Have/Want List || Trade References | |

| Meds, care to explain the bad points on Fantasy Grounds? My group is thinking about moving to that as we are becoming more and more busy with family and work and a cpl of our players live too far away.
IRC is a good option as you can easily send files to each other; this is useful for maps and anything else needed. IRC also offers diceroller scripts and the live interaction is excellent. DMs can easily speak with only ONE player if desired and control the chaos if necessary by setting modes in channel. It is tough but I have enjoyed the few sessions I've been part of, but it takes a good DM to keep it going...as with anything else [)] | | Trades >> Completed: 49 | Bad: Ø | Pending: 0 | Trade & talk Live on IRC! I really liked the look of Fantasy Grounds. The only sticking point for us was the relatively high System Requirements. It wasn't anywhere near viable for one of my players (and of course you're tied to lowest common denominator): Windows XP or 2000 with DirectX 9.0 Pentium 3 500MHz or equivalent RAM: 256 MB Video memory: 32 MB Hard drive space: 30 MB http://www.fantasygrounds.com/40.html
I'd recommend getting the demo version running for your group before you purchase (and their boards are very helpful if you do run into minor problems).
If you do have it running though, I have nothing to say against it -- it looks like a great product. Like I said, YMMV.

| Awesome tyvm!
I can read forums, etc but there is no more valuable review than one from a user/player. | | Trades >> Completed: 49 | Bad: Ø | Pending: 0 | Trade & talk Live on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis
