| For me it's still the first time I DM'ed a session (with only two players) and one of them, who'd never RPG'd before, but was familiar with the skirmish rules was playing a druid. So they go to this wooded area with a ruined temple in it to drop off a ransom (they were told to just leave it in the trees, and kobolds working for a bugbear would pick it up later). Of course the kobolds where already there and in ambush to kill the PCs. Even my noobe PCs saw that one coming, so they focused all of their attention on a small ruined building in one corner (where the kobolds were hiding).
The druid PC looked over his spelllist, then asked "can I cast light on an arrow and shoot it over there?"
Proudest moment of of my (short) time as a DM that was. | | Call me: W.N. Gobo! originally posted by grim: While he is clearly insane, he does have a point.

| I am going to paste a section of our log. It is written as a log so don't expect much elaboration. This is about a year into a campaign that started in 1996 and still continues [:D] Kat would be my character, funny enough the log was written with our PCs short-names, so they all coincidentally have 3 syllables. This is an old classic adventure Oasis of the White Palm (either that or Lost Tomb of Martek, we were advancing thru the series I3-5) so if you plan on playing it don't read.
Flocktime 23 They enter into a wrecked library with the bodies of dead adventurers. They find a small bottle with a ghostly servant "El Tarifa" inside. He tells them he killed the adventurers in battle, but destroyed the room in the process. He is very weak. Would they help him clean up? The party agrees, and El Tarifa goes back into the bottle, saying he will perform one service for the party, whenever they choose. First though, he flips a switch, and the wall comes crashing down.
Luckily the bricks are made of foam! They now enter a sitting room. A carved skull in the wall shows an empty room beyond. Doors to the north open into a large ballroom. Music plays and the floor shakes, but Rok discovers that dancing across the floor lets him keep balanced. They search the empty room beyond the skull, and all but Kat fall into a pit! Kat can't get down, and they can't get up. However, they find a tunnel, and follow it, finding themselves back at the obelisk, which in turn makes more reflections of them to fight! Zak's double shatters his knee! But Rok sends a lightning bolt through the tunnel, damaging them severely. After the battle, the group makes its way back through the streets and the mazes, to the house. But Kat is nowhere to be found. The north door reveals a glass slide. They wait a bit, and then take the slide…
In the meantime, Kat has already taken the slide, spirally quickly downward and being deposited in the street in front of some large, majestic building. "WHO GOES THERE?" A beholder emerges from the arches of the building. Kat lets fly a well-placed flaming arrow, striking the creature in its central eye. However, Kat is struck with fear, and begins to claw his way up the slide. Halfway up, Zak crashes into him on the way down, the others close behind. In the street the beholder puts Zak to sleep, and slows Kat. But Rok webs the creature and then fireballs it.
Already wounded by Art's broadsword, the creature perishes in a ball of flame. Searching the building, they find it to be a bathhouse, filled with skeletons. Pulling the drain on a pool floor releases a wraith! Rok and Kat both lose constitution. After the battle, they go into the drainpipes, and emerge before a statue of Set. A secret panel reveals a bottle, and the genie is released! The party is swept up in the genie's tornado and they all blast through the sands to the ground above. The genie flies off to battle the demon, and the party is dropped to the ground. The city of Phoenix is partially uncovered now, and the camels inform Art, "I'm hungry."

| I was just talking to a buddy about this very thing. It happened years ago I was the DM taking them through the return to the temple of elemental evil. 6 party members trying to sneak into the crater surrounding the temple all 4th or 5th level. They find the unsecured little used entrance two of the fighter/magic types (all but two were multiclassed) go invisible and scout ahead the rest wait in a storeroom near the entrance. they stumble into the guard room but aren't heard, 4 gnolls playing cards, one of the PCs decides he can take them before they can raise the alarm so he casts a spell. It doesn't work 2 gnolls escape the spell entirely the other two are merely wounded. They attack the now visable PC and the other has to break his invis to help him and now the alarm is raised. reenforcements arrive cut the two off. now they are flanked by gnolls and orcs on either side of them in a hall. The rest of the party hearing the alarm goes to their aid the fighter and ranger head down the hall now its gnoll,2 PC's, orcs,2 PC's. the druid and illitionist remain behind to try and slow down any other reenforcements. This is when all #@$% breaks loose. the most memerable scene is when all the fighter types are engaged in a life and death meele down a side hall and the main doors to the guards quarters(huge double doors) swing open with a ballista pointed down the hall straight at the druid and the illusionist crawing along the ceiling trying to avoid an ogre swatting at him like a fly.
end result gnome illusionist- stain on the ceiling, druid (who for some bizzare reason thought he could take on a ballista and its crew with out taking cover) pinned to the front doors by a ballista bolt. the fighter/mage who started the whole thing- died in the hall body never recovered. The other fighter(also cleric type)unconscious dragged away by the last two surviving party members. The ranger was reduced to using his bow as a club, the mage out of spells actually had to enter meele with a dagger before the retreat. They killed almost every guard but had no healing and the ogre was still up as was the chief of the guards( a leveled fighter).

| | I wasn't a ranger in that battle I was wizard (elemental sevant of air). The ranger had been killed before we ever got to the temple (lycantrope). The guy I was in the room with was psi-warrior. Who long before this battle spoiled the DM's plan to kill us with a dragon. Doing a psi charge up a wall, and slaying the dragon. | | aka: Dasher; The half Orc half reindeer Captain reference list: http://www.maxminis.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5339 Sucks to be you | |

That was his most memorable moment not mine.[:)] Ok I loved it to even though it destroyed my plans. I guess my first experience with the feat up the walls was truly memorable. The memory of when my dragon, with only 10 hps, flys to the top of the wall to use his last breath weapon on the party only to have the psiwarrior run UP THE WALL in a charge and kill it is forever burned in my mind.
I just abrevivated the classes as there were so many of them scattered among you six. The fighter/cleric type was a homebrew witch for example. I forgot your ranger got lycantroped up and died/suicided for the elemental savant I thought he came later.

| | I was playing "For Duty or Deity" module with my brother as DM. Since it's usually just the 2 of us, we run multiple characters, with one being the main. I was playing my Ranger, and I had a Paladin and Cleric/Mage as cohorts. Near the end, we run into this Marilith and her minions. My Paladin only needs to roll a 6 to hit, and he has 2 attacks/round. For 5 rounds, I fail to score a hit with him. It ends up being down to my Ranger, as the Paladin and C/M have bit the dust. I am down to 4 hit points, and I manage to win intiative. If I miss with either my L.Sword or S.Sword, I'm dead, plus the Marilith has quite a few hit points. I miss with my Longsword, but score a critical hit with my Shortsword and kill the Marilith. Luckiest roll of my life. | | Have/Want list: http://maxminis.com/hwlist.asp?user=tomas Reference thread: http://maxminis.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6938 Trades Completed(51):Unearthed Arcana, arcabious(x2), Noghri, phrennzy, jgsugden, BigBC, maniacal_mini_monger, cyderakk, Chaotic Good, symbiotesx2, Nixlord, dagonet(x2), Red Ranger, Zaukrie, Thatoneguy, Schooly_D, arbados(x2), scottbis, Thailfi(x2), Chiaroscuro, dumdragon, jedijon, DrX, ckissee, time bandit, the1ring, scallamander, sttmxn, Lance H, qstor, Thor, glumag, Urban Druid, xuthal, jaidenshea, Ghendar, Nurvel, raymo13, ickthegreat, Primarch, WakeXX, kyrin, Crisisman, desiderata, smetzger, Vrecknidj, Frostrune Trades Pending(): BAD TRADES(3):Satsujin Kingyo, Wraith, Yo Hon Email: thompmar@hotmail.com | |
