| Very interesting [:D] I'd forgotten how low hit points were back then. Every now and then I'll think back to AD&D and think about how much fun it would be to go back....then I remember Thac0. [:D]
This kinda brings the powercreep of 3E into the spotlight though. I have to ask Merric; do you think that 3E has "spoiled" the modern player? Specifically, in terms of personal power/ability and simplicity of rule? | | Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.--Dylan Thomas

There's a reason I used the 3e terminology in the game. [:)]

Not really. The personal power of the PC hasn't really increased in relation to the monsters... the big difference is the gap between 5th and 1st level is much wider now than before.

| Great reading, Merric.
That makes me wonder if I've still got my old copy of WPM around anywhere. I like the 3.5 revisions of the S series, but sometimes nothing beats the original. | | Champion of the Werewolf Lord, Knight of Anything Duergar, and Squire of Things Gnollish List reset with the start of previews for each new set...got Chainmail®?

| What 3rd edition did, is make leveling of your characters a fun and interesting experience. Each time they go up a level, they gain new powers, new abilities and become stronger in a lot of ways. The older editions leveling basically just gave you more hp and a 5% increase in attack bonus for a lot of classes. 3rd edition and 3.5 makes things a lot more fun.
Because of the power increase they had to bump the monsters up as well. Compare a 1st edition ancient red dragon with a 3.5 one. 88 hp vrs 527 hp. | | Looking for someone to cosponser a midwest DDM event. let me know if your interested! Check out my brand new blog: http://bshugg.blogspot.com

| It's a good idea not to get too carried away with comparing 1e and 3e... compare dragons or giants between their 1e and 2e version and you'll see what I mean. 2e did more bumping up in power than 3e did.
(3e did add more hit points, but the hit dice is derived from the 2e versions).
