Warriors - I tend to favor warriors. I just love the idea of going around smacking things with a sword or axe. Nothing quite like the visceral thrill of doing so. I have played just about every kind of PC, but the warrior tends to be my favorite. Love fighters, barbarians, and rangers. Not so thrilled with Paladins. A little too restrictive.

Arcane casters - I've played a sorcerer in 3.5 and got him up to about 16th level before the campaign ended with him being "eaten" by an Umbral Blot. I loved that character (named Ghendar, BTW). He was a fanatical Kossuth worshipping, fire casting, door hating mamma-jamma. (He was once killed by a door with a finger of death trap on it and was once attacked by a haunted, animated door in a large and very creepy haunted manor house.) Haven't yet played a wiz in 3.5, although I will soon be rolling up a PC that will eventually go the Mystic Theurge route.

Divine Casters - Not much experience with them. I love clerics who have good, potentially destructive domains. Clerics are nice because they can hit pretty well and at the higher levels can sling some good destructive spells. I never favored the undead turning type of cleric, just bash that skelly with my mace!!! [:D]

I'm playing a Druid right now and am looking forward to it. He will favor shapechanging and summoning magic.

Rogues - Not a class I naturally play or desire to play. I prefer the "up front" warrior to the "sneaky" thief. Although, I will admit that sneak attack damage is pretty nifty. Played a higher level rogue recently and he dished out some pretty good damage, but sometimes on the higher AC foes, he couldn't even hit them.

Monk - No desire to play. At least not right now. Maybe someday. The instrument has yet to be invented that can measure my apathy about the monk.

Bard - No thanks. Light armor, no destructive magic, lesser BAB than a fighter. meh

Ghendar - Now snark free!

I'll play just about any character race/class combo. However..

I perfer to play one of two general types:

Light (Dex based) fighters, particularly those with lots of stealthy skills. Favorites include archery oriented rangers, dual scimitar weilding dervishes, scouts, etc.

Sorcerers with ranks in the full sweet of Charisma based skills (Diplomacy, bluff, intimidate, gather info, etc). With a very careful selection of spells sorcerers can do just about anything.

I like to build characters with lots of skill points that can do something really well for the party both in and out of combat. I usually aim for builds that have lots of skill points to throw around (humans, high intelligence, etc.).

Of all the characters I've played, being the party "face" or "stealth man" appeals to me most.

I tend to stay away from heavy armor characters. I find heavy armor too restrictive and it just doesn't fit my style.

I like to play characters that are or have something that isn't common in the campaign setting. For years I talked DMs into letting me play psionicists (back in 1e and 2e) because they were so uncommon.

I am currently playing a blind half-orc fighter/rogue in a Warcraft campaign. A blind guy with excellent modifiers in Jump and Tumble is just a blast to role play. Of course, he has Improved Feint, and against people who don't know him, being blind gives him a nice circumstance modifier to the opposed roll.

Anyway, anything different.

Fighter/Archer types in general. Others in the group seem to have a favoring for arcane casters so I tend to let them fill those slots. I also tend towards being a vocal party leader type and it makes more sense for someone on the front lines to be calling the shots in battle so to speak. Recent characters...

Zenako - Human Samurai4/Sohei5/Templar8

Adrastos - Human Cleric of Artemis3 (with feats focused on Archery)

Kerrigan - Elf Ftr7/Wiz9/Th6 (old 1.0/2.0 game)

Jarek - Human Fighter9 Archer (old 1.0 18 DEX skills in bow and horse)

plus scores of characters from the 70's and 80's with fighters, paladins, a few wizards, a priest or two and one notable hobbit thief from a late 70's early 80's game. (That was hardcore by todays standard! 3d6 for stats rolled once and in place and roll HP and if you go negative you are dead. 0 was borderline and the DM gave you about a round before you died. A 7th level thief with something like 17 HP. The only survivor from the very first game session of that campaign.) I dm'ed a lot during the 80's and early 90's so have few characters of my own from that era.

Built the addition for this addiction, now on to the "gaming table" project....

My favorite is a true neutral thief, longest surviving character I have is one and has gone for about 9+ years now...lots of fun; thieves for me tend to be in the middle of every bar fight, every interesting problem in a village or city, the are well informed (or should be) and well connected at times...and I am talking about real thieves not some pick-pocket amateur...

Someone who is involved in a thieves guild, outstanding member, envied and hated by the lower ranks, admired by his superiors but also cautious of him, someone who is able to mingle among the politicians, merchants and give them no clue of his real intentions...makes for fun plots and very fun role-playing.

I have also ran a priest/thief (olidammara) dwarf and he is my second longest surviving character (about 6-7 years I think) but this one is more an alcoholic than anything; only reason he hasn't gotten killed is because he knows my main character.

I have tried my hands at a few other classes (priests, wizards, fighters) and thieves are always the most fun and easier to role-play (at least for my ideas and personality I guess) although I have played several of them only two have been lasting.

3E 'rogues' seem to be even more versatile than their older edition cousins...unfortunately I am strictly a DM for the new campaign maybe one day I can give a 'rogue' a spin and see how that goes.

In 20+ years of gaming I have played every core character and I find I like playing wizards and Psions, and the occational psi warrior.

my first love is psionics but sometimes a DM doesn't want psionics in his campaign so I prefer to play wizards.
I have very bad luck rolling dice, I've become a bit of a legend in that regard(ask Asophdarkfable), so my fighters and such don't last to long but as support and statagy I do much better. I also prefer the variety of spellcasting and especially psionics. Molding your caster to roleplaying by picking his discipline or school and choosing his spells and manifaestations to fit the characters personality is much more interesting to me than fighting styles and feats in fighters and barbarians.

P.S. please don't start up with there's no such thing as 'bad luck' in dicerolling just let me live with my illusion. [)]

Favourite class would probably be a Generalist Wizard (Human), I've a few dozen different types and alway have a blast with them!

Runner-up: Good ol' Fighter, human or dwarf both for obvious reasons. When you just want to be a beat stick and not worry about what spells to mem today.

2nd runner-up: Druids! (Yea I'm boring I like Humans yet again.) Man I love these guys, even more so in the 3.5 edition. Spontaneous animal summonings, wildshape and spells galour what's not to love? If you're a power gamer then IMO this class has clerics beat once wild shape is a factor! Then if really love the wildshape ability Master of Many Forms just makes it a even more enjoyable class.

I've tried just about every other class (either in the old days or the version 3.x era) with two exceptions Never done Barbarian or Paladin. Neither have appealed to me much though the optional alignment variants of the Paladin have peaked my interest on many occasions.

I think the only core classes I haven't played since 3E came out are barbarian and sorcerer.

I just don't care at all for the sorcerer's mechanics. I think the warmage and warlock both do better versions of the sorcerer.

As for the barbarian, I'm not sure why I haven't played one. Just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Stuff I'm currently playing:

level 25 fighter (this one is bordering being called on hiatus)
level 13 bard (I'd have to check his sheet)
level 10/1 paladin/knight of the chalice
level 7 shaman (OA)

Stuff that died recently:

level 8 psychic warrior (replaced by paladin)

Stuff that's on hiatus:

level 13 druid
level 14 wizard (enchanter)
level 6? cleric
level 9 half-orc fighter that never even got converted to 3E :)

My favorites have always been the delusional characters who think they are something else. I had a high level wizard who was convinced he was a fighter and had to be held back by the party to keep from rushing in with a sword.

I like playing unusual characters...

A kobold Rogue wanna be wizard
A Tiefling Red Wizard
A Seanchen Demane (In a wheel of time game)
In a live action vampire game... an Ancient Garou Revnant (no-one ever had a clue)

Traditionally... I like playing arcane spell casters or fast moving fighters of some type.

I would like to amend my prior statment and add I haven't played a sorcerer since they introduced them in 3rd edition. Mainly because I like the ability to choose more than a handful of spells.

But I have thought about trying one and selecting the heritage feats. I've read how some groups house rule these feats much like the wizards bonus feats. If I had that option it would make it alot easier to try the class out.

I've played every race, and every class in the 3E+ era. I have to say ... I like them all.

Right now, my living characters that have a chance to be layed again are:

* NG Dwarven Druid 12
* CG 'Human' Barbarian 7 (OA style campign)
* CG? Half-orc Rogue 22 / Barbarian 4 (semi-hiatus)
* LG Human Cleric 12 (on hiatus)
* CG Changleling (Dragon Magazine Feyish race) Sorcerer 13 (if I could ever get the DM to run that game again ... HINT, HINT)
* NG Hobgoblin bard (pb(e)m character - hiatus)

My next character concepts in the queue:

* LN Duergar Monk
* CG Gnome Illusionist (Sorcerer or Wizard)
* LE Halfling ranger/rogue/assassin (short range missile expert)

Been DM for awhile now but back in the day when I played it was the Cleric class that touched my heart. Always loved the watch me pray and watch my power come down on you feel. Causing holy terror towards the undead and the fiends! Ahhhh...sometimes I miss being a player.[:)]

There's a couple of core classes I haven't tried ... sorcerer, monk, wizard and paladin. OK, there's a LOT of core classes I haven't tried. For various reasons!

The whole arcane spellcaster thing really really doesn't do it for me, which is why I haven't played a wizard or sorcerer. I have a wu jen, and I really hate playing her. But at the same time, I like her as a character. So that's sorta rough on me.

I almost made a paladin, but the DM said I couldn't for reasons that I don't remember but I'm sure were good at the time. So I made a ranger instead. I just haven't really rolled good paladin stats for the most part. That's really the reason I haven't made a monk. They need decent to good stats in most of the slots (I feel), and I always have a 7 and 9, seems like. Ζ)]

As for what I HAVE played and like, I would say I probably enjoy my human 7/3/1 ranger/peerless archer/horizon walker (I sure like prestige classes!) the most. This could mostly be because I really enjoy levels 10-16 the most, though.

This isn't including my hiatus characters (I miss my holy liberator and my fat halfling rogue. [V] )

My favorite character so far has been a rogue/cleric with levels in the Skullcaln Hunter class. Ran as a rogue first then multi to cleric. Tend to run my rogues as more of a treasure hunter rather than a thief.

Other than that I like barbarians biggest race the DM will allow usually goliath or half orc.

I only have had two 3.0+ characters that were more than one-offs, as I usually DM.

The first was a fighter/rogue/sorcerer LN worshipper of Wee Jas who I think ended up fighter 4/rogue 4/sorcerer 2 before he died. And his sinister gnome cohort, cleric 7ish of Wee Jas, who heroically took his body away and out of the game to do whatever those Wee Jas sickos do.

He was replaced with a human wizard 10/planeshifter 2?, N, who specializes in two things: taking all the oddball spells, since the party had a sorcerer covering the magic missile/fireball niche; and getting minions via Leadership (human fighter as a bodyguard), Create Construct (made a cheap tin golem so far, working on the flesh golem), Craft Arms and Armor (to bribe the other party members), and Planar Binding for cheap "allies" as often as possible (XP is a renewable resource!).

If you can't DM, you can at least make a small army, that's my motto.

The wizard is mainly fun because I started him at 7th level or so, thus bypassing the boring levels. :)

I like fighter types. My character is a dwarven fighter (about level 9) but one of the levels is paladin. It's fun detecting evil at will.

I also want to do an archer of some kind some day. And I wouldn't mind being a wizard. Either of those, I would choose elf.

Since I haven't made a lot of different characters that I actually have had a chance to use for very long, I haven't needed to branch out yet.

I have never made a barbarian and don't think I will. I don't like bards and monks much either.

Sounds similiarily like a Pbem character of mine (game also on hiatus)Hobgoblin but in this case Druid.

Also had a Gnoll Cleric in another pbem, unfortunately that one died after three months (the campaign not the character).

My favorite charter of all time was Elvrone. A half-elf Paladin. He was the last charter I ever played. Took him from 1st level to 17th in our groups final adventure before graduation and our trek in the ultimate adventure of “life”

My two favorite classes are Fighter, and Barabian.

Give me a sword, and point me at the bad guys [:)].

Actually the best character I ever played was a Courtier from L5R. Not really a combatant, but with the right wispers in the right ears you can kill a man faster than with a katana.

I'm a caster first and foremost. I prefer Cleric the most as its wickedly powerful and useful, followed by Mage. If I have to play a more combat oriented character I pick Paladin. Not a fan of ranger, fighter or druid. Never have played a monk, bard or rogue.

I'm a huge fan of Bards. While they aren't combat monsters and tend to crumple after a decent shot or two, being the guy who starts fights then shouts encouragement while hiding behind the rest of the party leads to a lot of fun character stuff.

I'm a huge fan of clerics! Supporting the party can be a full-time job, though. However, it is definitely fun when things get tough, the cleric casts a few spells, and is suddenly out-destructing the fighter! [}:)]

I can do fine with the old Sword n' board style fighter.

I have recently become a huge fan of the archery type-fighters. I haven't tried an archery ranger, mostly due to a lack of feat options. A fighter/scout archery mix can be very potent, though. Combine that with Order of the Bow Initiate's Precision Shot, and you will still do significant damage.

I think Bards can be a hoot, especially as a party's 5th wheel. Party sorc wants to snag lightning bolt instead of haste? Great! Fighter not feeling too heroic? Got that covered. They are only 2nd to the cleric as far as useful party buffs, but they can really shine as the party's "face."

My preference is for divine spellcasters clerics and druids, not keen on Paladins or Rangers.
3.5 Druids are lots of fun, super summoner of nature's allies on steriods courtesy of SF Conjuration and Augmented Summoning. Throw in Natural Spell feat later on and you're king of the hill. Hugely versatile and seriously good fun
