Subject: Missing spell

I was looking over my players handbook and noticed that there is no longer a spell continual light. That struck me as odd because that seems like a pretty obvious spell for a spell caster. I can remember using it on our characters swords and such for a great light source without tying up you hands. If you needed it dark just put the sword away. Is it just in another book or was it removed in 3.0/3.5? I can't see any balance issues with it.

I think it got replaced by Continual Flame

SRD:

Continual Flame
Evocation [Light]

Level: Clr 3, Sor/Wiz 2

Components: V, S, M

Casting Time: 1 standard action

Range: Touch

Target: Object touched

Effect: Magical, heatless flame

Duration: Permanent

Saving Throw: None

Spell Resistance: No

A flame, equivalent in brightness to a torch, springs forth from an object that you touch. The effect looks like a regular flame, but it creates no heat and doesn’t use oxygen. A continual flame can be covered and hidden but not smothered or quenched.

Light spells counter and dispel darkness spells of an equal or lower level.

Material Component: You sprinkle ruby dust (worth 50 gp) on the item that is to carry the flame.

That sounds like it BTW that spell would be cool for making flaming weapons(granted they wouldn't do anything.)

This is exactly what one of my players did with his fighter/cleric, his patron god has the sun/fire domains. Both his heavy mace and spear have the spell effect on them. Coupled with a good Intimidate check he's spooked a few folks in encounters. Got even better once he could cast Fire Shield and wreath his whole body in actual flame.

You see! There ARE others out there just like me. What? Why are laughing?
