| After spending some time on the Wizards forums and seeing some of the problems that many DMs are either having or helping to create with their players, I am ever so thankful to be gaming with a great group.
When I DM, the players are fairly respectful, work as a team, roleplay inter-group conflicts without escalating, understand and accept consequences, and they know the rules and they know that I won't fudge to save them or over-react and wipe them out.
They try to role play, they move their characters properly, and they are usually reasonably ready to go.
Even the one guy's 13 year old son is not a problem player in any way.
When the other guys DM, they know the rules, follow them, tell a good story, have rich NPCs, allow for player creativity, allow for success and failure, and we all put a ton of time and effort into making it fun for everyone.
I should buy a case of beer for the next session (rootbeer for the 13 year old) and give everyone a big hug.
Having been to conventions, it seems like maybe 1 out of 4 DMs runs a high quality game... maybe our standards are too high.
In any case, instead of making a thread that we all see so often (not so much here) where players complain about their DM and the DM complains about the players, I just wanted to publicly thank my players for being reasonable, intelligent, and put effort into knowing the rules.
Anyone else want to thank their players or DM? | | Completed good trades with Demagogue, PigSnot, DoB, and Alepulp.

| I *heart* my two DMs. One of them has a world that I find really interesting, and he looks suitably guilty when he kills one of us horribly. The other does a really great foppish vampire NPC, and looks suitably guilty when he kills one of us horribly.
It doesn't take a lot to make me happy, I guess. <3 | | God Save the Horn Players

| We actually have a really good group. Alot of us hang out together outside of gaming. One of our DM's is one my best friends now.
My wife is in our gaming group and we make up a gift basket for the people in our group for most major Holidays (Christmas, Easter and Halloween.) This year for Christmas we gave them each: Dwarven Stone semi precious stone dice, Air soft Gun & BB's (dangerous thing on gaming night) Small lock blade knife Large lock blade knife Candy Couple of other little things
On occasion we will do a BBQ on gaming night. The last one we did was a 15 pound rib roast.

| I have two great groups. One of them (I used to DM there, now I play) has 6 players+DM, so sometimes it is difficult to keep things going and to keep everyone focused. But since we started, everyone has really grown into his/her character (we have two ladies in this group) and everyone has his/her own 'niche' in-game: we all get a chance to do our thing every now and then. We have lots of fun, in and out-game.
The other group where I'm DMing is fantastic. Four players (2 ladies, 2 gents) who are always prepared, always carefully listening to everything I'm saying, and very creative in their game. I guess the only downside is that I really have to put in a lot of time and effort to keep 'ahead' of them, if you know what I mean.
Between these groups, there are 3 players who were newbies when they started, and 3 who were starting again after over 10 years. What is most rewarding for me is that they are all hooked. Three of them have even started their own groups! | | trade reference thread (30 completed trades, 1 pending)Vindicated Champion of the Noble Salamander

| I've been gaming with the same group of core guys since 1996; some other have come and gone but the core remains, and even though some of the ones that have gone now live far away, we still get together during breaks and holidays (at least twice a year) for an all out fest!
There is laughter and distractions (due to mood enhancers *ahem*) but we have great chemistry and get along perfectly. A rare thing indeed, specially since most are old-time veterans and value the role-playing part of RPG a lot. There have been sessions where not a single dice was rolled as it was pure plot development thru role-playing and dialogue, and the best part, we didn't even notice. | | The group i've been rlaying with has been together for many years now. We have a set night every week and play for a couple hours each week if we don't get sidetracked. We've even switched games from time to time to keep things different. Currently we are running The Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil. Our DM is very good and keeps the story moving...we've been chasing the same NPC our nemesis since level two. We also play Xcrawl and one of our other group member GMs that. | | Play and have fun, this hobby is an escape from the harsh realities of life

Great thread YRM. I am actually incredibly thankful for my players, I think I may actually have as close to a "perfect" group as I'll ever get. I have a great balance of roleplayers to powergamers, no twinks at all, and a good balance of familiar and unfamiliar players. Great blend of very different personalities, and very different characters.
They love to debate, but are actually extremely respectful of each other, and often get very caught up in their characters and the game. Their creative problem solving and their evolving sense of teamwork has been a pleasure to watch developing.
I'm enjoying them immensely, and their level of involvement is exactly what I need to feel like my hard work as a DM is appreciated. | | POST DISCLAIMER: Above post may contain humor. | I am also very thankful for my gaming group. Great bunch of fellas that keep me on my toes. They respect me as the DM and each other as players. They go out of their way to tell me how much they enjoy the game. And now that I've talked a couple of them into DMing occasionally, I can play! [:D]
It was rough going, though. When 3E first came out, I had to slog through a lot of bad players and DMs. One guy was about to drive some of the other players out, and so I sat him down and gave him a choice: Either treat your fellow players with respect, or leave. He chose to leave. And the sad part is, almost three years later, this guy is STILL badmouthing me over at the Giant in the Playground boards. Geez, let it GO, dude.
But yeah, a good gaming group is more precious than gold.

| | I have a great group of players who all are pretty much as you explained YRM_DM. I have been DMing for some of these players for 10+ years! I guess that has to say something for me as DM [:D] considering they keep coming back and have other options where they can play!! | | Give me more MIND FLAYERS! | |
