| I've been playing for umpteen years, and this is only the second time I've ever actually participated in taking down a god. (If you count Jubilex as a god, otherwise it's the first one).
Not that I actually did any direct damage (being the Bard). But I was there, and it did die. And I gave everyone +3 hit/dam, and inspired a lot of greatness, and dim doored two of the fighters right in next to it.
I killed a GoD!!!
(Adrenaline rush still present...)

The way we run things, we wouldn't ever sanction something like that. We've been in battles here and there were demi-gods are present (damn Iuz) but very little can be done from our side. | | Trades >> Completed: 49 | Bad: Ø | Pending: 0 | Trade & talk Live on IRC! | I'm taking the credit because none of the other players post here!
Actually, the campaign was designed to get us all to this point. This demon was trying to take over the portfolio of one of our native gods, you see, and we managed to prevent that as it amassed enough power to manifest in our plane. | | Champion of the Flumph!!!

| Well, it's a home brew campaign world, so the name would not help you, but here's the description...
Red/brown mottled skin, with two heads (one grinning madly, one serious). He is normally surrounded by a flock of 3-headed ravens, which act as both a shield and an attack force. His spell-like abilibties included Implosion, Fire Storm, Reverse Gravity, and the various Power Words. Oh, and he had DR Epic, of course.
Accompanying him were a 2-headed Glabrezu general, with a nasty Abyssal Halberd (permanent HP loss!!!); 3 2-headed acid-spitting Vrocks (dance, baby dance); a demonically-infused Assassin; a Death knight with temporal spells; and a Nightmare. And did I mention that they all had a Psychotic template that makes them immune to all mind-affecting or illusion magics, and that they all stay up and healthy until they reach -10?
Big, nasty fight. Fun!!! | | Champion of the Flumph!!!

PC's should NEVER be able to kill a god, but that's just my philosophy. Killing an avatar or aspect of a god is an entirely different matter.

Nope -- we're (on average) 13th level.
We had some NPC help -- 2 13th level Dwarven Defenders, an 8th level Cleric Barbarian and her 8 Minotaur followers, a 6th level Druid, a 6th level Ranger, and a Celestial Unicorn (representative of our Witch's god). We also summoned in a mondo water elemental.
Add that to a Sorcerer, his Fighter cohort, our Archer, my Bard, a Witch/Healer/Druid mutt (with his polymorphed familiar), and a Druid (with his buffed and enhanced animal companion), we were pretty kicking. It was still a tough fight, though. | | Champion of the Flumph!!!

With all due respect to your DM Marjorie it sounds like he/she royally f'ed up that encounter. There's no way a god would have fallen to that group of PC's. No freakin' way. [:0]
When I read your first post, I figured the party must have been at least 25th level if not higher.

No reason to be sorry. This is a constructed world -- and the magic is a bit wonky. Each of the native gods are ascended humans (or dwarves. And the one elf). At 13th level, we are at the top end of power, spellcasting-wise, in the culture. The only people ever to surpass us in our known history have ascended to the realm of the gods themselves. The fact that a demonic entity was trying to horn in on our pantheon, stealing power from both the god of madness and the intrinsic epitome of earth really could have destroyed our civilization as we know it. Hence the reason the campaign had been leading up to this point all along.
So, now either our DM comes up with a way to take us outside our native plane, or we all retire as gods -- which would be more than disappointing... | | Champion of the Flumph!!!

I don't think the point was that they had 9th levels spells, just that the Gods in that particular game weren't the monstrosities of power they are in "Deities and Demigods" and "Faiths and Pantheons" | | Champion of the Beholder and Beholderkin

Yeah, MalinLug, don't remind me about that.
Our DM had half our group fighting some Vrocks, and the rest of the group (that MalinLug was in) got to fight a Glabrazu that we knew was comin' up, and I was actually looking FORWARD to fighting that Glab! Of course, I got to fight the bloody Vrocks. [:0][:(!]

Trust me nothing is as cool as being a cleric of you're last character [:)]. Just be glad he did not have a portfolio. When our group killed an evil god acouple years ago we discovered there was a gap in the system, and we each gained a half of some sort point. Our DM said it was in one of the books but never looked it up.
Anyway with an open Portfolio, and only half a point each non of us could even aspire to Demi-God so we turned on each other (with the hope of gaining more points). The wizard as a last act (as he was near death) killed us all. Kinda a sad way for heroes to go out. | Congrats, Marjorie...
It is tough to plan encounters that will challenge the PC's, especially at higher levels. Two weeks ago, my group encountered a Glabrezu and his two vrock minions...he was dead before round 3. I was shocked. I had forgotten about a certain arrow of slaying (greater of course) that they had liberated from another baddie. I rolled a 2 for his Fort save...in front of everyone. I was speechless, and the vrocks became anti-climatic at the point. | | Email Offers | Trade History Champion of the Frost Giant Jarl "Pray that you meet death standing on your feet, rather than on your knees."
