Subject: Bear warrior help

Im lookign at the bear warrior prestiege class
as it stands i have a 1st ranger/6 level barbarian half orc
stats str 21 (23 with item) dex 14 con 18 (20 with item) int 10 wis 12 cha 6

feats power attack cleave, iron will, close quaters fighter extra rage (we get extra feats house rule)
at the moment as u can see i dont have any weapon focus and use a magical great axe.
From what i can see of bear warrior the damage out put seems quite weak, or would i do more damage as a bear, 1d4 with a claw seems pretty weak for a brown bear. and do my magical items still work when in bear form, gauntlets belts etc. Any ideas or help would be apreciated
