| I was looking in the PH, and what I could make out from it was that the STR bonus was not added to these attacks ? Is this true ? How about Weapon Focus: Fists ? How about an Amulet Of Mighty Fists ? Do any or all of these add to the flurry of blows ?
The Monk in question is a 13th level monk ( 5 Monk/ 8 Tatooed Monk ) so his BAB is +9/+4
with a STR bonus of 4 ( +13/+8 ), Weapon Focus: Fists ( +14/+9 ) and an Amulet Of Mighty Blows + 2 ( +16/+11 ). Normally, the flurry of blows is +9/+9/+9/+4 at 13. How much would his be ?
Also, just a general question/opinion: what is the point of taking the 10th level of Tatooed Monk if it adds no extra feat, you already have all your tatooes and gain the same BAB and saves bonus as the 14th level of Monk ? | |

If you were going to go Epic Tattood Monk you would need it would be one. Other than that, theme would be about it, for pure statistical purposes no point at all. | |

| When using Flurry of Blows, a monk does get to add his strength bonus, weapon focus: (appropriate natural attack such as fists/hands), and amulet of mighty fists bonuses/magic fang bonuses.
If you explain the reason you believed these did not work in conjunction with FoBs, I'll help you figure out where you went wrong to avoid future misunderstandings. | |

My confusion came from the French PH itself ( I cannot wait until I can trade it for a
real english one...). The way it is written in the example for Flurry Of Blows, there are no bonuses at all added and since a Monk with less than 12 STR makes no sense, I was
assuming Ember had at least 14 STR, so her +2 or more was not added, although I could only speculate as her stats are not given in the PH. Therein lies the confusion. There was also no mention of the Weapon Focus: Fists/Hands either. My line of thinking brought me to assume nothing was added, which sounded silly to me, although the FoB is already quite powerful once you reach it's greater form.
Oh, and thanks Aesoph, where could I find the Epic Tatooed Monk level progression and extra tatooes ( I assume there are more...) ? My OA sourcebook is only 3.0. | |

Possibly in Complete Warrior, Tattooed Monk was reprinted there. Not sure on that though. But DMG has guidelines on how to make epic prestige classes out of existing. If it is in there, I know there are not any new tattoos, though you could design some of course. | |

That French PHB seems o have caused you a lot o trouble. I suggest putting it aside. As we both obviously spend far too much time on the computer [)], I suggest using the SRDs that I have referenced int he past. They provide the clear and concise versions fo the rules. Some rules are missing from the SRD, but they are generally non-combat rules. Accordingly, almost all of your 'numbers' based questions can be answered byt he SRDs.
As for the Epic Tattoo Monk progression, I do not believe that an official one currently exists. However, pg 150 of the Complete Warrior provides some guidelines on designing an epic progression for the prestige class. As a useful reference, check out the Crystal Master (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ei/20030221a) prestige class's epic progression. The Crystal Master is basically a psionic version of the Tattooed Monk (the Tattoo ability of the TM is identical to the Embed Gem ability of the CM), however the class is designed to be added onto a psion rather than a monk, so things like HD will need to be altered. However, the abilities gained per level should be about right. | |

| Thanks, although I am not a fan of Psionics. As to the PH, it is my own language so it should be easy, but the translation is not as good as one would hope and by being that precise and wordy, it tends to over-complicate matters. The entire Combat section is a nightmare. I would be better off using my PDF DVD that has most of the English books on it, but I have no DVD drive at work...

I was not suggesting using it in a psionic fashion. Instead, my suggestion was aimed at using it as a guideline for how abilities should be added as the character progresses in level into epic levels. If you look at the suggested materials, you'll see how the class proceeds in abilities, which will provide a guideline for how a tattooed monk might progress. In other words, the Crystal Master gains a feat at level X, so perhaps the Tattood Monk should also gain a feat at that level ... | |

I'm not saying you are. However, I can't see how the class having a psionic basis would be of any relevance unless you assumed that psionics had to be a part of the revision you'd be doing ...
