Ok so I'll be playing in a SW's game and have never played the game before. The GM sent a message out with the starting conditions. They are:

The year is 34 B.B.Y. (before the battle of Yavin), two years before the
battle for Naboo as detailed in the first movie. Right now the boy-slave
Anakin Skywalker (age 8) is borrowing the keys to the Toydarians podracer to
go joy riding across the desert for the very first time. (No, you guys
probably won't be going to Tattooine any time soon.)

All new player characters should be rolled up at sixth level to start the
game. As I originally mentioned, I am allowing characters from both the
Star Wars game as well as the d20 Traveller game which is mostly compatible
if a little more detailed. In the past I have instituted a "no one greater
than Darth Vader" rule (meaning that your attribute bonuses shouldn't add up
to more than +8) but seeing Anakin for the wimp he is I may have to rethink
this guideline. In any case, Star Wars isn't like D&D. The only good
attribute anyone needs is Dexterity and I guess a fair Intelligence doesn't
hurt.

We have two characters in the game who started this campaign at first level
and have earned some very special character benefits by light of there past
accomplishments (Don has an underworld network of contacts and informants
that span a vast area of civilized space and Steve P. is filthy rich). In
order to even the playing field, I am allowing the new players to choose
from several available boons at the time of character creation.
Specifically your choices are:

1. Play a Jedi
2. Captain and Owner of a Medium size Warship
3. Owner and Pilot of a Starfighter
4. Character is a Mandalorian with Armor & Weapons (think Jango Fett)
5. Character is a Droid.
6. Someone Important (political or corporate or both) owes you three Favors
(limited genie wishes).

Does anyone have any experience/suggestions? I own most of the books.

1. Play a Jedi

Of course...Classic SW RPG. If 2 Years of game time go buy Jedi Master Dooku will declare the Republic corrupt and leave the Order. If 12 years of game time go by the Clone Wars will erupt. If 15 years of game time go by the war will end and the Jedi Purge will begin.
Exicting time period to be a jedi.
quote:
2. Captain and Owner of a Medium size Warship

A Warship Eh? Just remember the Republic had no Army and the Sepratists didnt exist when your campaign begins. Your warship will be for a military of a smaller faction. A Corillian Defence force maybe?
quote:
3. Owner and Pilot of a Starfighter

Same applies as above. Nym the pirate from the PS2 video game "SW Starfighter" is a cool idea.
quote:
4. Character is a Mandalorian with Armor & Weapons (think Jango Fett)

By 34 BBY all the Mandalorians were whiped out by the jedi. They are all but extinct. A handful (at best) still exist doin private work or starting new lives for themselves. If you guys go this route I STRONGLY suggest you read the Jango Fett comic book trade paperback. If your local comic store doesnt have it order it. Its full of flashbacks and really shows who and what the Mandalores were.
quote:
5. Character is a Droid.

Meh...I dont like this one to much. Droids are NPCs IMHO.
quote:
6. Someone Important (political or corporate or both) owes you three Favors
(limited genie wishes).

Thats an interesting story line idea...But what kind of Character are you? If your a mercenary you can use the favors to get outfitted with expensive weaponry or a platoon. If your a smuggler you can request a ship. If your a Bounty Hunter your favors might be to have athorites turn a blind eye to an assassanation. If your a freedom fighter your favor may be the Republic supporting your cause and sending a Jedi or 2 to your world to help the war on your world.

Not a lot.

I'd rule out the Starfighter pilot. If your part of a group, it wo't be much fun if your in your ship by yourself.

Likewise, what is the fun in playing a droid (I guess character death isn't as likely....)

Someone Important: 3 wishes get used up pretty darned quickly, OR they never come into play at all.

Of the options left:
Jedi
Owner/Captin
Mandalorian look a like

I'd go with the Mandalorian. That said, if he sticks to the SW universe properly, you'll be hunted down by the Jedi once you show your face on a Major planet...

Have fun!

If you play a jedi in level six you are still a padawan finishing his training, maybe you include a NPC master, but could do some task by yourself at this moment, since all is peace in the galaxy.

Being a jedi is like paladins in D&D you must do whatever your master wish, you make your master more easy work.

The mandalorian idea is nice but is hard in this times, if you don´t wear the armor and know other languajes you could stealth your mandalorian heritage and being undercover in the republic (mandalorian at this moment is not a race if not a culture)and you could hate more or less the republic for what they done to your people in time before, at this moment each remaining mandalorian is mercenary-bounty hunter to put their skill at work.

The other options are very nice but a little common, you could pick any class and have those characteristic, maybe is a good moment to mix classes (that have many advantages) as example the starfighter pilot have Soldier-Force adept (in awareness the most) to be fast and nice or the pilot of the vessel could be Scoundrel-Scout to go for the galaxy trading things.

This period is of relative peace most people is their bussiness but in coming soon troubles will begin with the Trade federation trying to be more powerful and trying to break away from the republic...

Don´t think that you´ll find many sith they are just two! but you could find some darkside users being your enemies.

Very true...There are only 2 sith at this time period.

But there are plenty of people who had a high midichlorian count who were never discovered by the jedi. These individuals live normoal lives...or sometimes realize they are special and traine themselves. Unfortunatly it doesnt take them long to discover that anger and hate make you stronger. Thes poor souls dont realize how its corrupting them until its to late.

There are also former Padawans who turn to the dark side. What to the jedi do if a student is to angry and agressive? You dont kill them or lock them up...Having anger issues is not a crime. The best the jedi can do is expel them from the jedi order. Some of those turned away become evil and focus thir powers on the dark side. Aaura Sing is an example of such a person.

The Sith are a cult that is believed by everyone to be extinct. Those who turn to the dark side are not all sith. Dont get the 2 confused.

I like the Mandalore idea, but then two of my last three D6 SWRPG character were bounty hunters:
"Mr. Gun" (and my friend played "Mr. Knife"), based on the assassins Mr. Wint & Mr. Kidd from Diamonds Are Forever ΖD]
or
Magnus, who came back from Tatooine Manhunt looking like Cyborg from Teen Titans [B)] and was stopped from taking Jodo Kast's armor [V])

If you are worried about being a Mandalore, ask if you can be a more generic Bounty Hunter/Merc. Magnus got along fine without Mandalore armor (but wasn't happy about it)

Jajajaja this make me laught a lot [:D]

And about what count dooku said the sith is a cult, a very selective and small cult; not every darkside user is a sith but every sith is a darkside user for sure.

Grey Jedi or Outcast jedi could use dark side powers and that because they were expelled from the order, but you could find other things that use the force and don´t know about jedi, maybe a dark side maraunder or a force adept.

Thanks for the input. No force adepts allowed. [V] As it turns out no one wanted to play a Jedi, the GM wants one, so I'm leaning that way. I usually end up being the group spellcaster anyhoo. In most d20 games I end up playing humans, I really like the extra feat and skill points. Looking over Ultimate Alien Anthology, Miraluka jumped out at me and Cerean seems a solid choice as well, I did however only quickly peruse the book. Rolled stats are 16,15,14,14,11,10. The method was 4d6, dropping the lowest, but generating 7 scores and dropping the lowest of those. So let's assume I'm a Jedi. More to come as time permits.

ROTFLMAO. One of the players is playing an assassin droid of some sort.

An Assassin Droid? [:)] Nice I played one of them in the old WEG SWRPG. It was a Droid disguised as a Jawa, with enough handguns/blasters to make a Chow Yun-Fat movie. ΖD]

Pathetic Earthlings. Hurling your bodies out into the void - without the slightest inkling of who or what is out here. If you had known anything about the true nature of the universe - anything at all - you would have hidden from it in terror.

I was going to suggest Jedi.

True you won't run into many darkforce users. Sidious you'll likely never meet, Maul is still in training though it would be possible you'd meet him...and die shortly after.

The Witches of Dathomir I don't think are known about at this time or are quietly known by only a few the Masters.

There are a few Monasteries or Cult that exist and some Jedi turned from their teachings. So I'm sure there will be some opportunies for you to run into Darkside adepts, but I wouldn't say many.

Taking your stats I'd likely go with...
Str: 10, Dex: 15, Con: 11, Int: 14, Wis: 16, Cha: 14.

What kind of Jedi are you going with Consular or Guardian (were Sentinals ever an option other then in the CRPG?)

If you were to go with a Guardian then you might like to drop your Charisma for a better Constitution score and put the 11 in Strength to give you the option to bump it up at a later level. You'd also have the +1 enhancement at level 4, which I'd say goes into your Dexterity.

I'm not sure what type of Jedi yet, so I guess I've made at least that decision, Jedi it is. I'll have to look at the classes at little more closely before deciding. Flavor-wise the Guardian seems a bit more palatable to me. I'm thinking i want to decide on race before the type of Jedi, still perusing UAA.

That does look pretty cool, thanks. I see a problem though: 'However, they are almost unknown in the Jedi Order by the time of Palpatine's rise to Supreme Chancellor, the GM may have a problem with it based on that statement.

Actually, I've found in typical SW games that a fighter pilot gets to have fun in all encounters. While ground-based encounters typically involve all party members (like most D&D encounters), starship battles usually involve only those PCs that are Pilots (and occasionally gunners).

In one SW campaign I was in, half of the party (3 of 6) were relegated to buckling up next to the holo table while fighters attacked. Not as much fun for half the group, especially when the ship combat took half an hour or more.

Well remember that palpatine and vader did not finish all jedi with the order 66, many jedis remain in different parts of the galaxy and vader begin a hunt together Force inquisitor order made by palpatine (Evil guys that feel the force sensitive in people and blast them)
Many of the jedi that left alive could be sentinels for their investigative nature, but vader find them and finish them for certainly (This remember how strong is the Vader Jedi Hunter in SWM) he had 20 years to do it (yoda and obi wan were hidding by using lots of force stealth at their high levels). I think that in the rise of empire era many jedis tried to kill palpatine thinking they would help the republic (as Obi and Yoda did for first) finding no more that death in hands of vader.

I think that if you run a jedi, you know (as player) that in a future you´ll be prosecuted and executed if catched. The jedi sentinel could fit excellent in stats (because is a jedi consular with levels of prestige class) and if the times comes he will arrange a date with vader´s lightsaber [:D].

I´m also had a pilot; Lait Wonka, that was a duro but flew as rebel pilot in a ywing and then as pirate in the rebellion era (intergalactic civil war), appart from clone war the most exiting era for playing pilot characters is rebellion era because smugling, piracy, customs (by Star Destroyers) and so on were the rule.

All they got to do was cower? In the last game I was in, I was a Jedi Guardian, and I got tossed in the role of gunner. I did have a good kill ratio, though! [}:)]

The best: The GM was running a ship we were travelling with, and we were tossed into a Huge ship. There was some kind of tiny (compared to the ships) object in space causing problems. The GM was going to be really nice to us, and had the other ship tell us to leave. Well, in mid-dismiss, I went ahead and fired. Dropped a 20. Can you say BIG boom (capital-class ship). The GM didn't even want me to confirm the crit (which I did!). [}:)]

A wookiee with a vibroaxe is a fearsome opponent... A charging, raging one might require some morale checks in enemies! And in close quarters fighting, they really are efficient!

A str 20(including +4 bonus) wookie has STR 24 when raging, that's +7 to melee attacks and +10 to 2-handed damage. Just add cleave, and power attack at higher levels. Playing a wookie -fighter can be pretty brainless, but other classes might give interesting characters in addition to great fighting prowess.

Indeed...

But the trouble to the wookie is if i shoot him from safe distance for 3D8 of damage for each shoot!

But if you manage to get close enough it worth a lot [:D]
