Inspired by the comments already in the other thread about my current RPG ... situation, help me prep for the upcoming session.

BACKGROUND

I'm playing a Warforged Favored Soul. It is amusing and I enjoy it. I am a (the?) stabilizing force in the party that consists of a mass of strong personalities and player IQ. I'm not terribly efficient or character-optimized ... and I'm completly in-game-event-driven for character development. The character's name is Pilgrim, a Waforged who started the game with a convienent case of amnesia, allowing me to be the DM's pawn and whipping boy whenever he feels like it. As the stabilizing force I'm also supply the voice of reason, the ability to make decisions and am the nominal leader of the group. (Go 6 Wisdom! Woohoo dump stat! What a bunch of clods to pick the 6 Wisdom 'forged as their leader!)

In the meantime, I write these little short stories. Some good, some bad. I'm not a great writer; hell probably not even someone you'd consider a good writer ... but it is my outlet.

They are all stories about people who cross paths with Pilgrim. Some of the characters the DM (Kiddoc) turned into followers when I picked up the Leadership feat. Most of the stories start based on a single scene, concept, idea or even a picture/piece of artwork. Because of this, when I start writing I'm not entirely sure what that little story will end up.

Now I've got mundane stories, stories of odd and interesting people (and other creatures) simply observing Pilgrim, etc. They kinda help me frame the character.

Anyway, I've always liked the Action Surge picture in the Eberron Campaign Setting ... then the Player's Guide to Eberron came out. Immediately I latched onto the concept of the Revenant Blade and out spewed a story. And then another. And then a third.

And at the end of it all, I'd written myself a wife and cohort ... a Valenar Elf ranger/fighter headed towards Revenant Blade. I hadn't planned on it ... it just kinda happened.

Character-wise, Pilgrim is a strong believer in fate. He has nearly blind and unshakable faith in this concept of destiny and purpose (Go 6 Wisdom!) ... things happen for a reason. As this Valenar elf was hunting down constructs, those vile creations who killed her first husband, she and Pilgrim cross paths and discover that the symbol on her ancestral amulet and Pilgrim's ghulra are nearly identicial. Fate / destiny and a leadership feat later, we've got a cohort and a wife.

Next session will start with the wedding.

Now, I've got a series of questions that I've anticipated will be asked and how I expect the new NPC to answer them (I'll be able to swing Pilgrim's responses - that character I know better) ... so hit me with questions and let's see if I can get a good set of responses built.

Are you looking for questions about the relationship between your warforged character and his Valenar wife? (I have an obvious one, but it's probably best to not post it here. [)]) Or are you fishing for ideas for Kiddoc?

1) When did they get married? Astrology has long been associated with Fate in mythology, and if I remember correctly Eberron's moons are related to fate and the dragonshards. (Different from warforged runes, I know.) The orientation of the moons might foretell the destiny of their marriage.

2) Why did they get married instead of simply being companions? IE does the WF character believe they are specifically destined to be married, or could it be something else? Perhaps the warforged has some relation to his wife's former husband. He could have come from the forge that created the constructs that killed her husband. He might be destined to help her as some sort of cosmic repayment for her loss.

3) What do the elf's relatives and friends think of the relationship?

4) Does the Valenar believe that they are truly destined to be together, or does she simply like her husband?

5) How do they react together in combat? Is the warforged extremely protective of his wife? Does she fear losing him to a violent enemy just as she lost her last husband?

It's deja vu all over again.

They'll be married during the next session. Got me a little ceremony written-up for the rest of the party. No off-screen weddings here. If Kiddoc wants to add some astrological drama, so be it.

Pilgrim is a pawn of fate and destiny; Giwen (the elf) strives to be the living embodiment of her patron ancestor. The connection between them has to do with her ancestor and Pilgrim's forging - his ghulra (the unique mark on his head that all warforged have) is virtually identical to the rune of her ancestor. Why? I leave that to the DM.

His answer: It was meant to be, brother. This I know. (shrugs)

Her answer: My heart is mine to give; who I chose is my business.
quote:

3) What do the elf's relatives and friends think of the relationship?

Her answer: My family was murdered years ago and I have few friends.
His answer: She has walked her path largely alone; now we will journey together.
quote:

4) Does the Valenar believe that they are truly destined to be together, or does she simply like her husband?

Her answer: Our bond spans my life and my ancestor's.

His answer: We share in this belief.

This will have to play out.

Him: Solid, dependable and reliable tank.

Her: Crazed whirling ginsu of death.

I would imagine should something REALLY threaten Pilgrim that she'd go crazy monkey. He chose Shield Other as a spell, so he'll do his part that way.

Hmmm! an epic love that can never be physically consumated, it sounds like a victorian era novel. [:)]

I don't really have any question more like comments and ideas, I can't help it it's the DM in me.

You're character is a great beliver in fate and your wife believe's that your souls are linked. One theory on the warforged is that there souls are reincarnated from the fallen warriors in the great war. So prehaps your soul is somehow linked to her dead husband or some member of her family and her soul senses this and that is the origin of the bond and the manifestation of your ghulra.

Another idea:

The warforged are currently, arguable, a dying race. With the creation forges shut down no more are being created, not counting the two illegal forges, so when a 'forged is destroyed there is no 'replacement' like in the fleshy races. Prehaps destiny has thrust the two to you together to form the eberron civil rights movement for the warforged. Prove the warforged have feelings and emotions like any other sentient being and are deserving of the rights like any other race.An end game goal could be to gain the access to the creation forges so they have the ability to reproduce. Right now the bulk of the warforged only technically have the rights granted them from the treaty of Thornhold most countries only respect them to the degree they want to.

What happens if after they are married it turns out he was one of the warforged that killed her first husband? How will he handle drunks in a tavern asking her is she would rather be with a real man? Do they have plans to have a family (adopt orphan children or some such thing)? What would the wife's patron ancestor think of her marrying a warforged? Does the warforged love his wife to be, or does he just feel fate has put them together?

Then I suppose my cohort will kill my character.

Pilgrim handles criticism very well (ignore). Giwen, however, can likely be provoked.

Pilgrim is already a semi-father figure ... to the party, to a mess of other disconnected orphans. She'll help raise those adoptive children.

Up to Kiddoc

Of course. They clicked instantly; both understand their place in the world on a very basic, primal level.

If your Warforged ever goes for the 'turn into flesh' Prestige Class, your relationship could get a bit less cerebral.

That aside, I think this is a great story, and a couple of grand characters! It makes me wish that my Warforged Scout Artificer could run into your two PCs.
