| We are going to be starting a new epic campaign soon once I finish the Spider Queen campaign that I am running. We will start with 21st level EXP. We may take Level Adjusted Races and use the optional buyout rules from Unearthed Arcana.
I am debating on the character that I want to play. I am tempted to run:
Bard 8/Soldier of Light 2/Sublime Chord 2/Spell Sword 1/Eldritch Knight 8 just to prove to my companions that a melee bard character will work. However, i am concerned with the complexity of Epic Levels for a spellcaster. Would it be difficult for someone new to epic play to run a bard gish like this?
Feats I was looking at are:
Practiced Spellcaster
Weapon finesse
Snowflake Wardance
Power Attack
Divine Might
Arcane Strike
???
???
???
I am not sure about the other three. If I am a human, I'd have four more to go. Any suggestions?
The other build I am looking at is an Elf build:
Paladin 4/Swashbuckler 3/fighter 4/Champion of Corellon 10
I would have something like 16 feats in this build:
Combat Expertise
Weapon Finesse
Mounted Combat
Dodge
Improved Weapon Familiarity (helps qualify for the prestige class)
Power Attack
Cleave
Great Cleave
Mobility
Spring Attack
Whirlwind Atack
Improved Disarm
Divine Might
Improved Critical
Improved Initiative
???
I am also considering making this character a 2 weapon fighting character.
Int+Dex+Cha to damage, plus Corellon's Wrath many times a day might do enough extra damage to make it work it. To do that I would drop Cleave and Great Cleave from the above list.
So what are your thoughts? Also, if you don't mind. Some suggested items to purchase would help too. We have 975,000 gold to work with. These builds are very much MAD. Belt of magnificence +6 is on my list, as well as some tomes of ability increasing. Anyhting else I should go after? Thanks much!!

| I'm no Bardmiester but if you go either route a Singing Sword (intelligent +2 dancing longsword) might be a nice pickup - 127,855 gp. Couple other thoughts...
- Ring of Virtuous Good (constant holy aura), 250,000 gp
- Mantle of Epic Spell Resistance (SR 40), 290,000 gp | |

| Well I've decided to go with the Bard build. I am in the process of putting together my magical equipment at this time. Here is what I've finished so far.
20th level Drow Bard 8/Soldier of Light 2/Sublime Chord 2/Spellsword 1/Eldritch Knight 7
Rolled Stats (using 4d6 drop lowest and reroll 1's): Str 17 Dex 17 Con 15 Int 15 Wis 14 Cha 20 (after racial adjustments)
BAB: 17
CL Arcane: Bard 8 + Sublime Chord 9 = 17
CL Divine: Soldier of Light 2
Spell Level (arcane): 9

Any other items that I would really need? keep in mind i've never played a character higher than 14th before so I'm not really familiar with combat at high levels. I may have totally forgotten something.
If anyone knows some good spells to suggest I'd love to hear it. :) I'll need 1-3 bard spells and 4-9 arcane spells from bard or Sor/Wiz. | |

| I've been trying to think up some good spells, and I am certainly stumped. Despite the high BAB and Spell levels of this build, I don't have a lot of variety. Getting the most bang for your buck is difficult.
After factoring in the ability bonuses, my spells per day aren't spectacular.
Spells Per Day:
0th - 6
1st - 6
2nd - 6
3rd - 4
4th - 6
5th - 6
6th - 6
7th - 5
8th - 3
9th - 2
Spells Known:
0th - 6
1st - 4
2nd - 4
3rd - 3
4th - 4
5th - 4
6th - 4
7th - 3
8th - 2
9th - 1
For spell levels 0-3 I pick from the bard list only. 4-6 I pick from Bard and Sor/Wiz. 7-9 come from the Sor/Wiz lists.
I especially do not know what to do with the higher level spell slots.
Wish seems useful, since i can duplicate lower level spells with it. However I am not sure if i like the XP component. Mordenkainen's Disjunction might be nice as well. If anyone wants to help out, I'd love some advice. [:p] thanks! | |

| | How are you getting 9th level spells with only 20 class levels and 8 of them bard? Unless theres some wonky prestige class I don't know about that turns bard levels in to arcane, its not possible. You need 17 levels of an arcane class to even reach them and thats going straight arcane. Arcane and Bard don't normally mix. | |

| Sublime Chord from the Complete Arcane book lets me do that. It requires some high skill ranks so you can't take it until tenth level, 3rd lvl arcane spells, and it requires the bardic song ability.
It has its own spell progression which gives 4th - 9th arcane spells. You can choose your spells from the bard or sor/wiz list for those spells. You add your bard level and your Sublime Chord level to determine your caster level for all of your arcane spells from either class. Its neat, but you end up with a very small selection of spells. You can also do some neat stuff with the bardic song ability like boost your caster level, or create a firebll of song if you go straight Sublime Chord. I wanted a good BAB so I decided to use the Eldritch Knight Prestige Class and forgo some of the cool bardic song abilities. | |
