| | OK, so how do I keep track of combat if I lack decent, resonable minis (i.e. few rats)? I was thinking labelled disks. | | My Trading Thread | |

| I have taken some card stock (i.e. a cerel box) and cut the entire thing into squares. I have tons of 1x1, 2x2 and 3x3 inch squares to use as proxies for the lacking mini.
I know that others have actually used photos attached to this card stock as not to detract from the rest of the 3D aspect. I haven't had the time to do this. Although, I like the idea!! [:D] | | Ambassador of FUN!!!

| We had a GM who took metal washers and glued pictures that he printed out onto them. It worked well enough and we still use them to keep track of where there are dead bodies.

| | A long while back, Dungeon magazine often came with cardboard cut-outs of every encounter in that month's issue. It was in 3.0, so many larges were 5'x10' instead of 10'x10', but many of them are still usuable (anything size Medium or smaller, and a lot of the huges), and I still use those things if I don't have time to find the proper figures or there isn't a decent proxy. | | Champion of the Entire Monster Manual 1! | My Dm also used the "candy" method....
I now wiegh over 400 lbs. and I'm only a 6 lvl fighter !!!
Once we switched to the plastic minis I have lost 54 lbs and only had to have one DDM dire lion removed from my colen...
The DM is still a little nervous using rare minis in our game.

| Well, if you've got a halfway decent printer and plenty of color ink, I'd say it was time to put the gallery to good use!
35 Dire Rates coming up...You just need something to glue them on. Most hobby shops have bags of wooden discs that are available in a variety of sizes (1", 40mm, and 3"--convenient that...), or you could use some of the colored foam sheets and cut counters out of those.
Once you have the counters cut out, it's time for a gel-pen, outliner (silver/gold ink with an "outlining color" that sets up once you start writing with it--I THINK they still make those), or other marker to ID which counters are which. | | Champion of the Werewolf Lord, Knight of Anything Duergar, and Squire of Things Gnollish List reset with the start of previews for each new set...got Chainmail®?

| | When I needed a Beetle Swarm I went online and found a great pick of some tiny green beetles, copied it a bazillion times in photoshop and then printed it on photo paper. Cut them into 1" squares and voila! Swarms especially are great done that way. Many companies sell PDF's of beasties you can print on cardstock and cutout too. | | Champion of the Yeti (large uncommon please!) Assistant to the Regional Manager | |

| Not only did he use washers, but he also has magnets that are the same size. They do a really good job of showing elevation even under regular minis. One magnetic disk for every 10 feet. The table is metal also. Like I said, we actually still use the washers with skulls on them to show where we have left corpses. We have about 40 of them, and have on occasion, used all of them.

| | I'd look into icehouse pieces, thats what I use for stand-ins. There are 3 different sizes so they visually make sense for most encounters, although they bases wont be the size you need but you can always but them on wooden disks. Plus they look awesome. | | Champion of the Tohr-Kreen. WotDQ Called Shot: Fang Dragon. | |

| | Get some firewood and a nice sharp whittling knife. Then go to summer camp for a month and learn to whittle from the three-toothed, one-legged, one-eyed, long bearded, left-handed ,albino, ,eskimo, camp janitor (good thing there is one in every camp in the continental 52 states). Then, you can spend a few years creating your own figures, and voila! - problem solved! [)] | | Champion of Remorhaz, and the Mighty Goblin Frog Riders | |

| | Well i've used graph paper before, and just marked where everyone was. For the most part, it worked really well. If you have a battlemap, I think things like bottle caps would work great as mentioned. Also I've found out that poker chips are usually the same size as a Large base in D&DM. I use some crappy ones for bases on my old Large metal minis. | | Champion of a Knight of Takhisis/Knight of Neraka | |
