| | Quick question can you place enchantments on a item one they already have been made, eg adding extra ones on my +2 buckler somewhere down the road or do they all have to be done during original item creation | | BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS | |

| I am pretty sure you can add properties to it, but going from say a +1 to a +2, that I am unsure of.
By properties, I mean say Deflect Projectiles that is costed as a +1 adjustment and you pay the price in gold written in the DM Guide. | | Please donate BLOOD at http://www.monstersgame.co.uk/ac=vid&vid=11018554 Champion Of Kaz the Minotaur Knight of ALL Draconians. | Generally speaking, you can upgrade a magic item by paying the difference in time, gold, and XP.
For instance, you could upgrade a +1 long sword to a +2 keen flaming long sword (a +4 equivalent) by paying half of 30,000 gp (a +1 weapon is 2,000 gp and a +4 weapon is 32,000 gp, so the difference is 30,000 gp), 1200 XP (1/25 of 30,000 gp in XP), and 30 days (one day per 1,000 gp in the upgrade cost). | | Jeff "Wayne Laredo" Wilder | Email | Have/Want List | Trade Policies | Are You an Ethical Trader?

Just to clarify, you only get to pay half if it is your character doing the work.
If your character is paying to have the item improved by an NPC, you generally just pay the full difference and wait for your item (30,000 gp and 30 days in the example above).

I do like the idea of multiple casters cutting down the time, however. I think I'd have 'em all pay the listed price in XP, though (cost of a rush job) and of course there would be a concomitant raise in price... [:D]

| In our current game, we do this alot. I have the same swords that I have been carrying since 3rd level. My character crafted them as a twin pair of Masterwork swords. As we have gotten loot, I have gotten my sword enchated. Now, each is the equivilant of a +3 weapon. They are still the same swords and hold alot of sentimental reasons for keeping them. The dwarven defender has done the same thing with his axe.

| | I think that upgrading your items, especially your magic item is the way to go. It seem more natural to me upgrading your arsenal than replacing it with another when you got the money. This way you character can get attached to his/her gear. Think of a masterwork item, say a long sword, you carry from the begining of your adventuring days. You fight with it, and mostly win. You can name it after a spectacular victory, or a serie of successes. Add a small gem to the pommel when you got spare money. Take good care of it as it saves your life. It's part of your character's history and will turn eventually into a legend of its own (if you do). | | Champion of Cockatrices. I wish I never wished a wand of wishing. (Wishful thinking.) | | I did the same with my archer's bow. I could have bought a better one, but I inherited this particular one from a girl I liked (in game) so it has a lot of sentimental value. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades. | |
