I was kinda curious about which minis you guys are specifically using for RPGing. I know each adventure is different but I was wondering what the most common minis that keep coming back into play in RPG's are.

Let's see ...

Cemetary/Ruins: Undead
City: Humans, Wererats
Coastal/Sea: Orcs (my world's pirates), Sahuagin
Forest: Kobolds, Gnomes, Elves, animals/magical beasts/were-beasts
-- I use Treants *as* the forest
Hills: Giants, Ogres
Plains: Goblins, Hobgoblins, Gnolls
Swamp: Demons (story reasons)

hhmm... I think i am going to make a list of figures i haven't used yet to see what kind of adventures i can surprise my group with [:)]

For human/half-elves encounters, I find I use Man-At-Arms the most for common soldiers, Royal Guards ( I have a ton of bagged for trade...) as elite guards for a palace, rich or martial city and Human Crossbowmen for support. Soldiers or Thrane or Stallwarth Paladins for army elites. I have not found a decent human mage yet...As jai said, Goblins, Kobolds, Orcs, Hobgoblins, Gnolls, Bugbears ( in order of power ) are the most common humanoid foes. Lizardfolk and Troglodytes are great for caverns and dark areas.

While for animals I would say Dire Rats, Fiendish Dire Weasels, Wolves, Werewolves and pretty much all the Dire animals. Then, we come to monsters such as Ankhegs, Troll Slashers, Feral Minotaurs ( They also make great Tsunos for OA ), Skullcrusher Ogres and Half-Ogre Barbarians ( I used them for common Onis ),etc.

goblins, goblins goblins! A lot. Dire rats and wererats. Lots of human fighter ones, not heavyly armored (thug, bandit, caravan, etc). Orcs, Ogres and finally undead (zombies and skelies) [:D] [}:)]

But yet again, we just started a new campaign and they are barely at level 3.

The basics always seem to come up regularly in my games. Orcs, goblinoids, large humanoid types as well as large beasts and vermin.

As my campaign arc mainly deals with coping with an orcish invasion (original, I know[B)]), I use lots and lots of orcs, supported by ogres. I'm really looking forward to running Hellspike this week though as I'll get to use a bunch of "new" minis.

But most common? The goblinoids, orcs, giants, animals, skeletons, and zombies lead my list. But then the past year our two campaigns have been with parties of characters of 5th level or less.

Lately I've only got one sporadic low-level campaign going on and it takes place in the underdark (not FR specific) so lots of:

Drow
Duergar
Ankhegs
Goblins

Under normal circumstances I'd get a lot more mileage out of Orcs, Ogres, Umber Hulks, Ettins, Elementals (all sizes/types), anything off the Summon Monster/Summon Nature's Ally lists.

Oddly enough my 2 most used minis so far:
Ember Human Monk
Celestial Dire Badger

The monk was used as a monk PC in our last campaign and is currently serving as a druid PC in our new campaign. The badger was the old druid's animal companion in our last campaign and has seen play as summons in our new one.

Besides those, the most interesting encounters I've run so far included the Dire Bat, Orc Druid, and Harbinger Troll. Otherwise I've used a smattering of human bandits/barbarians as well. I think they're always a useful type of mini to have in each set, right up there with goblins, orcs, and gnolls.

I supply minis to the DM's who have games at the library I work at. The most common requests I get are goblins and kobolds. A few orcs and elves mixed in, as well as animals (wolfs, frogs, lizards, spiders.) But mostly goblins and kobolds.

I need a newcastle...

I would say a lot of the human fighter types such as the men-at-arms. I think the undead (spectre, skeletons, zombies) have also been used quite a good amount. The Huge minis such as the bulette (primarily for a proxy) and treant see a lot of use as well. Those are the first few which come to mind.

Well, I'm not running yet (and may never) but I do know several of the categories that I'd need.

Kobolds
Gnolls
Hobgoblins
Various Anthropomorphs (Ibixians, Catfolk, Lizardfolk, Thaskor, Khumat, Ophidian, Centaur, Minotaur, etc.)
Grim Necromancer
Warforged
Lich Necromancer
"Demon"--not sure which kind just yet
Blue Dracolich
Werewolves
Longtooth Barbarain
Vampire Spawn
Ravenous Vampire
Various Undead-types
Drow
Duergar
Large White Dragon (ZWD will do if a "real" one isn't out)
Gargantuan Black Dragon

I think that would cover most of it. At least so far as it is settled in my head.

In my last D&D session, a crawl through some urban sewers in pursuit of a wanted criminal, I used:

- Spider Swarms
- Spider of Lolth
- Carrion Crawlers
- Otyughs
- Kerwyn
- Lidda
- Human Thugs
- Kobold Skirmisher

In general my world is heavily humanocentric and monster-light so I get a lot of mileage out of the less monstrous figures.

Last week I used about 30 kobolds(mostly soldiers, with some skirmishers and champions thrown in), an ogre, and a dire wolf for baddies, and an Elf Swashbuckler, Thorn, and Sword of Glory for PCs who don't have pewter minis.

My most common are kobolds, dire rats, orcs, and other animals, but I've yet to DM a game over 5th level.

Lately, a lot of Howling Orcs and Orc Maulers to represent my world's dominant evil goblinoids. I find that I use orc skeletons quite a bit as well for when these goblinoids get raised by their dark masters.

It depends on the campaign and it changes over time. Started with Caravan guards as bandits and has moved up to Dire Apes and Fiendish Girallons (as ape proxies) and from there to the cusp of Hill giant Barbarians and Hill Giant Chieftains.

not counting PC's or NPC's the monsterous minis are most commonly used. resent game had a spider theme so the monsterous spider, the drider sorcerer, spider of lolth and swarm of spiders were all used.

Our current DM knows nothing about DDM so to our(mine and Aesoph's) horror he just grabs anything handy to proxie whatever encounter we have. It kind of funny we have to stop him and say 'they have that mini already' after his description and quickly drag it out for him.

I've a nation of Hobgoblins in my homebrew world so they see quite liberal and repetative usage. Goblins and Kobolds probably come in a close tie for second. Undead in their many forms round out my top three.

Valorous Prince I've used alot for both royalty and aristocrat type NPCs. Purple Dragon Knights, City Guards and more recently Royal Guards all make great city type proxies. Battle scenarios and such the two incarnations of the Man-at-Arms, Soldier of Thrane and now Shieldwall Soldier from this set work well.

I keep a small group of barbarian types and werewolves together as well since I've got a northern territtory occupied by that sort and one tribe that's taken the totem animal to welcoming lycanthropy. Lots of proxies here; Longtooth Barbarian, Carrion Tribe Barbarian, Crow Shaman, Frenzied Berzerker, Longstrider and a few more I can't think off the top of my head.

You see! There ARE others out there just like me. What? Why are laughing?

I use Chainmail and Reaper minis for my D&D campaigns (in addition to DDM).

Now that I have my hands on them Girallons are definitely going straight into my D&D campaign (I love the 4-armed monkeys).

I use old Ral Partha minis and Reaper minis. I think I, like most ppl, use mostly metal ones for PC's, and the D&DM for everything else. But there are some good sculpts out there in D&DM that are very useful as PC's also.

I use more humanoid peices more than anything else. Which is why I'm always glad to get more drow, orcs, bugbears, derro, deurgar, etc. I need them in mass.

We use DDM for everything now. With 9 sets uder our belts, there are few characters that we can't find a proxy for. It's a game of imagination after all.

I like using the Cleric of St. Cuthbert for a commanding officer type charcter, the Renegade Warlock for sorcerors )besides the Half elf Sorceror)I plan on using Artemis fror a hexblade/dread necromancer PC. I also have several pewter minis from Ironwind (go Ivar!) and other companies that I can't remember.

So far, the orcs are the winners. There are a lot of orcs in my campaign world ...

I use DDM, a few (rebased) Clix, and a lot of my old metal miniature collection (collected between 1979 and 2006).

Since I DM in Dragonlance most of the time, I dont get as much use out of the Orcs as everyone else. I've been really happy with the Young Minotaur from Arch, since in DL the minotaurs are medium. I still use a lot of the goblins, so its always nice to get variety. And I use Ogres a lot, so I'm glad more are coming.
