| | I heard from a friend that a Kaiju template was in an issue of Dragon...does anyone know which issue that is? It would...come in handy. | | High Priest of the Mercury Dragon (Prayers all all I have...) Champion of Genasi Unhallowed Called Shot: Ghoul (Vindicated! | Augh, typo. #289. Two-hundred eighty-nine.
It takes a while to do the template, btw, it's pretty involved. But neat nonetheless. CR +15.

| Kaiju- n- A giant monster originating primarily in Japan. also called Daiakiju (giant monster). See also Godzilla.

| Not really, although I guess you could recreate those Gargantuans with the template if you left off all the special abilities.
The template is basically bumping the monster up to Colossal, and then picking from a bunch of special abilities and qualities which are kaiju-esque, like breath weapons or screeches or frenzies or eye rays, etc.

| For example of what a finished kaiju looks like, here is one I used as a big monster for a 20th level party. Almost ate 'em, too.
The template and this monster's stats are 3.0, btw, since it was a while back. The Roar feats are from the article. But it'll give you an idea of what the results of the template might look like.
Kaiju Dragon Turtle: CR 24; Colossal Dragon (80 ft long, 60 ft diameter); HD 52d12+572; hp 910; Init +0; Spd 20 ft, swim 30 ft, burrow 10 ft; AC 38 (-8 size, +36 natural); Atk +62 melee (8d6+18/crit 19-20, bite), +57 melee (4d8+9 [x2], 2 claws); or +62 ranged touch (15d6 fire damage, eye rays); Reach 20 ft; SA breath weapon, ray attack, battle frenzy, spell-like abilities, snatch, trample, capsize; SQ scent, immunities, absorb energy, no breath, SR 34, damage reduction 25/+5, darkvision 120 ft; AL N; SV Fort +39, Refl +28, Will +29; Str 47, Dex 10, Con 33, Int 2, Wis 13, Cha 32. Skills: Listen +16, Search +12, Spot +16. Feats: Battle Roar, Blind-Fight, Improved Critical (bite), Improved Trample, Thunderous Roar. SA—Thunderous Roar (Ex): As a move equivalent action, can roar. Creatures of 6 HD or less within 1200 feet are deafened for 3d6 rounds as well as shaken (suffer -2 morale penalty to attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, and saving throws). Creatures of 7 HD or more must make a Fortitude save (DC 47) to avoid being deafened for 3d6 rounds and a Will save (DC 47) to avoid becoming shaken. SA—Breath Weapon (Su): Steam cloud 100 ft long, 50 ft wide, 40 ft high, 20d6 fire damage (Reflex save DC 47 for half damage). After breathing, must wait 1d4 rounds before using breath again. SA—Ray Attack (Su): Once every 1d4 rounds can generate a beam of energy from its eyes, range 300 ft. SA—Shockwave (Ex): As a standard action, can rear up and slam into the ground, affecting all creatures standing on the ground within 100 ft, who must make a Reflex save (DC 54) or fall prone. Structures in the area take 4d6 damage. SA—Battle Frenzy (Ex): When reduced to 25% of maximum hp total, gains +4 bonus to Strength and makes a second bite attack each round at a -5 penalty. These benefits cease if the kaiju is healed above 25% or reduced to 0 hp or less. SA—Spell-Like Abilities (Sp): 5/day darkness, 3/day call lightning. Caster level 20, save DC 21+spell level. SA—Snatch (Ex): Successful bite attack on Large or smaller creatures starts a grapple as a free action without attacks of opportunity. If successful, the victim takes bite damage each round, double if the dragon turtle does nothing else the round. Held creatures also receive no save vs. the breath weapon. Dropping a snatched creature is a free action, flinging them aside is a standard action (hurled 120’ and take 12d6 damage). SA—Trample (Ex): Can trample Gargantuan or smaller opponents as a standard action for 4d12+18 damage – this does not provoke attacks of opportunity because of the Improved Trample feat. Opponents can attempt a Reflex save (DC 54) for half damage. SA—Capsize (Ex): Surfacing beneath a vessel will capsize it. SQ—Absorb Energy (Ex): Absorbs electrical damage – any that penetrates damage resistance is converted into temporary hit points that last 10 minutes before disappearing. SQ—Immunities (Ex): Immune to fire, sleep, poison, disease, and paralysis. Electricity, acid, and sonic resistance 50. Immune to mind-influencing effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns, and morale effects). SQ—No Breath (Ex): Does not breathe and immune to gas-based attacks that require a Fortitude save.
