Someone on ENworld asked about what lessons people had learnt from their past campaigns.

It's not 4,000 words! It's shorter than one of my reviews! I don't overwrite things! [)]

Seriously, I hope you enjoy my trip down memory lane.

Cheers!

I am playing in a group that is being led through Dragonlance adventures. I certainly agree that it has been very railroady. Especially the earlier modules. Drove me a bit batty, actually.

It was nice reading about your development as a DM. When I started DMing the group I have, I was at a state when I would have rather been playing, but was the only one who knew enough about D&D to give it a fair crack. Now, I am in the early stages of learning how to DM and am beginning to enjoy it quite a bit.

That's definitely an interesting bit o' trivia [:D]

Looks like you started a little earlier (chronologically) than me but I was a bit younger. The joys of railroaded campaigns in youth.

I've found DMs who grew up on Final Fantasy tend to take a lot longer to break the railroading habit than those who grew up reading books instead (several of my friends fall into this category).

My problems lately are finding consistent players in my locale [:(]

It was 1982 when I started playing D&D, and I occasionally tried DMing, but never in campaigns.

Cheers!

Its reassuring to read about someone else's evolution as a DM. I'm certainly still learning the ropes but your story has shown me that its worth it to stick with it over time even if things aren't always "epic fun."
