It's a "collectible card" system for awarding treasure to PCs while playing RPGs (there are potion cards, armor cards, weapon cards, etc.).
Kind of a nifty idea (and the starter is relatively cheap) HOWEVER it has expansion packs. Each pack contains 10 of 110 cards in the set (they even have "chase rare" foils).
Ummm...MtG meets the DMG? So, what does everyone think? Cool idea or silly marketing scam[?]

| Marketing scam IMO. And check the date. That concept has been an april's fools joke before.
Just seems like a bad bad idea.

| | Am I the only one who remembers that TSR used to sell packs of cards exactly like that? I still have a collection that I keep in the back of my minis binder. You used to buy pack of 8 random cards that would have monsters, items, and NPCs on them. Damn come to think of it TSR loved cards. They had the Dungeon Master decks of monters, rooms, and tresure that they sold premade along with the spell decks. | | Champion of the Tohr-Kreen. WotDQ Called Shot: Fang Dragon. | |

| Hmmm... Well, I had seen the link to the 54 card set, and thought they were pretty cool. Now I see teh expansions have a collectible factor. Not sure what to make of that. I like the idea, and will probably get some, but it will be interesting to see if it is feasible to cheaply get enough for most adventures.
A card list, as well as the break down on rarity (and rarity in each pack) would be helpful to me...

Both. The idea is fine but making it collectible is just ****ing stupid. | | Champion of the Gelatinous Cube. Nemesis of Gnomes and Dinosaurs.

| | I like this idea that they are just cards with art as opposed to items with stats attached, at least in the basic set. As a DM I like being able to assign whatever stats I need to the items as I need them. I'll drop to 10 bucks for the starter. | | Champion of the Tohr-Kreen. WotDQ Called Shot: Fang Dragon. | |

| | I actually do just this for my current campaign. I have been using index cards with an attached picture and description of the item for years. It works fantastic. Now, i would switch to something like this, however, it being random is a terrible idea and will certainly keep me away. | | Give me more MIND FLAYERS! | |

That's going to be my approach for future games. Every magic item gets a card. That way, people will be able to identify who has what and items won't get lost in transitions between players (which always seems to happen with potion in games I play in ....) | | Champion of Meepo _*_ Myztek on the Wizards Boards. _*_ (2206 DDM on 03/06/06) Please note: The use of the indicates an attempt at humor ... often a bad attempt. It's a neat visual gimmick too. After the PC's finnish searching dump a handful of card sized treasures on the table. Just dont forget to include junk, traps & curses ;) | | "Mutton yesterday, mutton today, and blimey, if it don't look like mutton again tomorrer." I hear you... BUT, the Collectible business model has been demostrated to work. Witness D&D Mini's! A large number of mini's buyers did complain about the collectible aspect of DDM, some still do, but the line is successful...
I suspect I'll pick some up....

| | I can understand the collectible theory, but it's not a separate game, it's a reference, right? Collectible D&D rules don't work. There's nothing here to encourage "collecting/hoarding/trading," there's no advantage to having more Holy avenger cards than anyone else.
