| My group of players is asking me something quick thru email and I have no response without the books, checking www.d20srd.org doesn't help cuz it is blocked, any help would be appreciated. Thanks
During our adventure they have found a couple of spellbooks and various scrolls, among them some stuff they do not like so:
the one scroll of "Magic Circle vs. Good." I'd love to burn it. Will that do anything bad? It won't explode or curse me or anything like that? I'm making a couple of skill checks to see if I know anything about destroying scrolls....I got a 24 on Knowledge (Arcana) and 27 on Spellcraft. If it's harmless, I'll burn that sucker.
Also, the "Protection from Good" spell in the evil gnome's spellbook. I'd like to blot out some of it to make it unreadable. That way if I ever sell the book, I won't be passing along evil knowledge. But again, will anything bad happen? Knowledge - 24, Spellcraft - 18. And I'll be sure to have some paper underneath that page - I don't want any ink soaking through and ruining the next spell in the book.
Since I am still wet behind the ears on 3.5 I figured you more skilled ones could lend me a hand [:D] | | Trades >> Completed: 49 | Bad: Ø | Pending: 0 | Trade & talk Live on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis | |

Websense at my work doesn't block this SRD.

Burning the scroll should have no negative consequence.
Erase should work to remove the offending spell from the book.

Well if your the DM it could have a negative consequest.[}:)]
Do you get 'sensed' from the WotC's site. They have an SRD too. For some reason my computer can't open their PDF's. So being aggravated at not having an SRD at work I googled SRD and checked every link until I found one that wabsenseless didn't hate.[:D]
Edit: You can also use erase on the scroll and save the paper as well. Be sure to read the erase spell, there are some rolls to be made depending on what's being erased. | | You know, I keep thinking that after the new design team gets done with D&D 4e, D&D won't stand for Dungeons and Dragons anymore, because well, that's just not fun. | No, I don't get sensed from wotc, I forgot they have them in rtf there. duh! thx.
I am playing by the book on most things slowly introducing my custom rules because I want to keep the game balanced and since I do not know the rules up and down yet I don't want something to go way unbalanced later on...want to keep the surprises and regrets to a minimum [)]

That's a wise choice my young padawan.[)]
I don't usually mess with the rules too much. I think the closest thing I have to house rules in my current game are some changes I didn't make from 3.0-3.5, and a coupla things from Unearthed Arcana.

| | Once upon a time there was a group of adventurers who needed to take a scroll to an old wizard to stop the end of the world. On the way the party was attacked by two Remorhaz. By the end of the battle only two of the adventurers were left alive. One bet the other five gold that the scoll that would prevent the end of the worl wouldn't burn. The other adventurer accepted the bet, later that day the world ended. Long story short - scrolls burn wether they're magical or not around here at least. | | Champion of the Tohr-Kreen. | | Heh, nice story. I was not doubting that a scroll would burn but if the magic would be unleshed in an unfavorable manner [:D] | | Trades >> Completed: 49 | Bad: Ø | Pending: 0 | Trade & talk Live on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis | |

| I agree that destroying the scroll should have no negative consequence. That would make failing that Fireball save *doubly* tragic. [B)]
As to the spellbook, the first books were very modular -- in other words, pages were not glued in, but literally "bound" with string or somesuch. I would imagine that the pages of a spellbook could simply be removed. That's how we've always done it.
