Hi friends.
i´m with a greta difficulty with the artificer in my home game. I dont understand how Schemas work´s.
the artificer have schemas to create his infusions?
how the artificer use his storing item infusion?
im a little confused including with the description of the artificers ínfusions.
ps: im using this kind of description: The artificer is lost in a forest with his group, and he remember "maybe i can speak with a bird to ask for the forest border. let´s see." so he grabs his knife, a wood piece and, using his spell storing schema, he taps in the local raw magic and create a kind of flute with the wood, canalizing the magic in it. The whistle of the flute is able to call a kind of bird and asking him for help...
im glad for any help...
thanks all.

Hi there I will attempt to help,
The artificer does not need a schema to cast his infusions, a schema is roughly the equivelent to a spellbook or a how to manual. It holds an infusion or piece of an infusion that can be learned or used to help in an item creation. Artificers can use schema's to learn a new infusion (if your DM wants to inclued a new one) or as part creating some magical item (sort of like a how to manual or the key to run a device like a creation forge).
The Artificer can cast any infusions off his infusion list, approperate for his level, with no prior preparation. For example a 5th level artificer has 3 1st level infusions, 3 2nd level infusions and 1 3rd level + any for intelligence bonus. He can cast up to 3 1st level infusions per day but any 3 he wants off his entire level one infusion list without having to prepare any specific ones in advance.
When he casts an infusion he casts it into a non living item or constuct(living constucts like warforged count as constructs) in essence making it magic item for the duration of the infusion. When he casts the infusion into an item anyone can use that item not just the artificer.
In your example the artificer in the woods would use his spell storing item infusion to cast speak with animals into the wooden flute making it a one charge speak with animals wand.To do this you must emulate the spell to be cast by makeing a use magic device check (DC20 + [spell level x 3]) speak with animals would be DC 23. He then uses the flute to cast speak with animals and can now talk with the birds and possibly get some help.
hope this helps and I hope I didn't get to complicated, i tend to talk to much and give way to much information on simple questions.[:)]
