| Ok now that age of the Worms is coming too a end soon, which do you prefer out of the two. (without spoilers for the people playing)
I prefer still Shackled city as it had more of a core bunch of monsters and the storyline was more interesting for me. (don't get me wrong AOTW was good but too many weird creatures).
Anyone else?

| Shackled City was better. It was just a cooler story and I liked how an entire 20-level campaign revolved around on location.
By the way Age of Worms IS over..Wasnt the final installment in the Dungeon that had the Red Dracolich on the cover? | | Champion of the Skulk Vindicated Champion of the Twig Blight

| Yeah there is one more suprizingly this is somthing in the campaing more difficlut that the draco lich....
I have only read peaces of AOW and i like what i have read. I also ran SCAP and i loved it.
SC: Great campaing their first try (that i know of) of doing 1-20 levels AOW: they improved on keeping the storys together and have a bizzar but great campaign
My pick the SC even thought some of it needs some adjustment to have it flow better. I also love crazy jarrd and made him a bigger NPC than the book had.

| AoW is better.
The adventures' structure, pace, and diversity of encounters is better. The globe-trotting feel grounds the game more fully in Greyhawk, while Cauldron is pretty generic even for generic DnD, and that's better, IMNSHO. The creatures that populate AoW are old school, 1 ed. Fiend Folio creatures that deserved to be re-introduced to todays gamers.
All this from a guy who loved SC enough to buy the hardcover (which is vastly superior to the origional-as-it-appeared-in-the-magazine version), even though I had the complete arc from the magazines.
They learned from Adventure Path (AP)1 to improve AP2, and if history is any indication, AP3 will be even better. Bring on "Savage Tide!" | I greatly appreciate the lack of spoilers for Shackled City, as I'm running it now and a whole bunch of my players read/post here.
Re: the Demogorgon adventure, it should be interesting to see. I'll be disappointed if it has a lot of aquatic/underwater content, as I've always preferred the jungle-y version of Demogorgon.
I'm prepared to be disappointed, since all the recent material I can think of uses the watery home plane version. | | Anson on WotC boards

| I'm running AoW and only read SCAP so thats probably coloring my views. Both series has some really cool adventures and some real stinkers. The stinkers mainly because they were dungeon crawls that were too long. Also some of the gaps in plot need a bit of work to point the group in the right direction in both series. Between the two I prefer AoW. I like the scale of the adventure and how you travel to different cities and locations. It also feels like the party is more of the "heroes" of the world than SCAP does. Its pretty wicked that one entire adventure is a big dinner party, and other twists can kill an entire city or town.
With a little polishing both turn out well, but AoW has a larger scope for you to work with. Because of this I think its better for an experienced DM. SCAP works better for a beginner as its more self contained.
For someone who runs it from adventures: I'm curious, did SCAP have a lot of typo's and stat errors, as well as parts missing? I have the hardcover so I'm assuming they fixed those.

How so?
I've been keeping myself away from Dungeon for the time being (no one around to play with) although I'm seriously considering any hardcover release that might find its way to shop shelves.

From James Jacobs on the Paizo boards:
The entire campaign has been reorganized and made to flow much more smoothly than its original run in the magazines. Events are better foreshadowed, errors in the text have been fixed, all stat blocks and rules have been updated to the 3.5 rules, and areas that needed clarification have been clarified.
We added several new maps to the entire product, including a poster map of Cauldron before and after the events that take place in "Foundation of Flame" and "Thirteen Cages." Also new to this product is a DM's map of the surrounding region, as well as maps of notable Cauldron locations like the Town Hall and one of the more important taverns.
We added an entirely new adventure to the campaign; this is "Drakthar's Way," by Chris Perkins. It's about 10,000 words long and fits in between "Life's Bazaar" and "Flood Season"; in the original run, there was a slight gap in experience and this additional adventrue addresses that gap while also giving more opportunities to foreshadow the troubles to come down the road.
We added dozens of new illustrations, ranging from full page illos down to many new NPC head shot illustrations.
We also added about 40,000 words (that's about the same amount of info as the standard 3 adventures in a current issue of Dungeon, for sake of comparasion) of new content to the campaign. This new content consists of:
—An extensive introduction that gives a lot of tips on how to run the campaign, including an exhaustive timeline and history of events leading up to the campaign, a complete list of named NPCs with their role in the campaign, information on how to handle the PCs' gradual discovery of the vilinious cagewrights, and over a dozen pages of new content describing important locations in Cauldron and in the surrounding environs.
—Contents of web enhancements for "Life's Bazaar" and "Flood Season" (including the notorious tilt-a-pit traps, the early Stormblade encounters, and Skie's Treasury) are expanded and incorperated into the text.
—Earlier adventures are adjusted and adapted to more accurately reflect events and NPCs encountered later in the campaign.
—Each adventrue has sidebars to help you get the chapter started, and to let you know what the bad guys are up to during that chapter in case the PCs take too long completing the chapter.
—The Flood Festival during "Flood Season" has been greatly expanded, giving the PCs an excellent opportunity to get to know the town of Cauldron and have a little fun at masked balls, street competitions, drinking contests, and more in the days before the rains really begin to fall.
—The encounter at the Cusp of Sunrise in "Zenith Trajectory" has been greatly expanded, and Celeste's role in the campaign has been made less mysterious (with her playing a more direct role in the adventures).
—The awkward transition between "Demonskar Legacy" and "Test of the Smoking Eye" has been fixed.
—Two encounter locations in "Lords of Oblivion" (House Rhiavadi and House Vhalantru) are now fully detailed and stocked with additional encounters and treasure and peril.
—The descent into the depths of Cauldron in "Thirteen Cages" is more detailed, and includes three new encounters along the way to the Fiery Sanctum.
—All new monsters, magic items, spells, and feats are now gathered in appendixes, including a few that are new to the Hardcover edition that didn't appear in the magazine editions of the adventuers (includig the enormous thunderbeast and the magic item Vhalantru uses to pose as a humanoid).
—The High Handcrafter prestige class from "Demonskar Legacy" has been revised and made more attractive to a wider range of PCs. A second prestige class, the Pathwarden, has been made available as well; this prestige class is closely associated with the Striders of Fharlanghn and should appeal to characters allied with this group.
—NPC organizations the PCs might find themselves allying with (notably The Chisel and the Striders of Fharlanghn) have been presented in much greater detail.
—An appendix filled with tips and advice for character creation for the campaign has been added, including several new traits that local heroes can start the game with.
Finally, the entire thing is printed on MUCH nicer quality paper than we can afford for the magazines, and it's a LOT more durable and portable. I'm really proud of how it turned out, and I think you'll get a kick out of it if you enjoyed the adventures' original run in the magazine. | | Champion of the Entire Monster Manual 1! Yeah, but did they CHANGE or IMPROVE anything? [:)]
So that explains why it seems to flow smoother. If they give AoW the same treatment, then its gonna kick the pants off of Shackled City. Its only the synergy between episodes that really holds it back. The errors can be overlooked as just annoyances. | | Looking for someone to cosponser a midwest DDM event. let me know if your interested! Check out my brand new blog: http://bshugg.blogspot.com

| Paizo have active message boards dedicated to Shackled City and Age of Worms. Seems like a great production cycle - 1) release advdnture series in magazine; 2) collect feedback from players via messageboards; 3) reorganise series into hardcover, with the benefit of hindsight and incorporate feedback from messageboards.
No wonder the hardcover was such a successful product! | | http://www.maxminis.com/hwlist.asp?user=DarkWhite [for trade only within Australia, no overseas trade thanks]
