Does anybody know anything about this? Is it the new Living Eberron game? What are the factions all about?

I was intrigued and signed up for the whole series, but I have no clue what it is.

Intriqued me as well. I think its the next living event for Eberron after the Mark of Heros. I didn't want to spend all my time playing this event,5 rounds 5 hours each for each faction with 3 rounds being mutual to all the factions. so I just signed up for the start and part of the well of woe. The other rounds conflicted with other stuff I want to do but if it really draws me in I may try to get into the second faction round.

I'm playing the black company faction.

There was supposed to be a write-up in the May issue of Dragon, but it's possible that it was bumped to the June issue which we should see in the next couple of weeks.

There is a little bit of information strewn among massive speculation in a few threads on the RPGA Mark of Heroes board at WotC.

There was also a posting in the RPGA pages at WotC looking for people to help write the content for it: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=rpga/articles/20060203a

Argh! Frustration...

I'm one of the writers for the Campaign. It's well underway with LOTS of plans and support. Very good stuff, and an awesome bunch of professional writers at work (excluding myself, the newbie).

Unfortunately I haven't been cleared to say more. I'd expect the veil to lift in a couple of weeks. Until then, I have to pipe down about it. My RPG group is getting it in good doses though. So if you like it later, thank them for helping create it. :)

From Wes Nicholson, the head of the RPGA in Australia:

"Yes, it's a level bump type campaign. No, it's not at all like Green Regent, and only a little like Mark of Heroes (in that it's set in Eberron).

"If it works like it's planned to, there will be way more play opportunities for this campaign than even for LG - 64 mods per year plus two specials is the current planning. (As this is way off-topic for [the ratik list], I'll leave it there.)"

Cheers!

Almost too many mods. [)]

This may start up some interest in Eberron from the local RPGA group. Usually gamedays are dominated by LG, but if we can actually order mods every gameday, well... Who knows!

Yeah, I really need to work on my H/W list one of these days...

Interesting but I want the details on character building, will it be the same as mark of heros? new stuff? Whats allowed what isn't? Will different things be allowed for different factions?
We have almost 3 months but I would like to see the build stuff sooner rather than later last year I had a take one for the team character I would like to build one from scrach this time.

Blackwheel Company all the way!

Yours truly is the factionmaster for the good ol' BWC. I won't try too hard to sway your loyalty--but I will tell you a handful of your own Maxminis members are designing and playtesting the campaign's NPC's and first adventures.

Of course, I've sworn them to secrecy, but I'm flattered to have any additional maxminis members in my personal faction. The BWC is the choice of champions everywhere :P

As for the campaign standards, they're in process. They WILL be out, top men are on it. Top Men. We're all writing our @$$es off to bring the BEST campaign with the most dynamic inter-player, inter-faction rivalries and interactions that have ever been seen in organized D&D play. But it does take time. We're getting there, but it's a team effort. We're going to debut at origins for the basics, and Gencon you're going to see the full potential of X.E. unleashed.

I'm proud to have a team of maxminis' best working on the campaign for you, and proud to be bringing it to you personally.

I'll keep you guys updated as I'm cleared to release information.

I'm a blackwheel man, got my ticket for the thursday at 6 adventure.
Saw the Xen'drik adventures in the catalog decided to play and picked the Blackwheel company almost at random, really just liked the name of the faction, kind of reminded me of Glen Cooks black company.

Can't wait for the end of summer. Since I can't make it to gen-con, it looks like I'll have to play/run these at my FLGS or home games. I've been waiting for an RPGA campaign that I could get my gaming group into (they don't like LG) and this might just be it.

The question is, which faction modules to DM, and which to play?

By "playtest" he means "maddly trying to avoid TPKs".

I'm not going to give away any hints, but there is far too much actual singing going on .... and my god man, they don't have a miniature for a Gnomish Xen'drik Lord ... do you HAVE to use your cat as a proxy? And ruling when she knocks things over it's an earthquake ... seriously ... how are you going to handle that at GenCon? Ship in some cats?

Just to mention it, I signed up to GM Blackwheel Company adventures at GenCon. That's probably how I'll be experiencing them, unless I manage to squeak them in at the preview at Origins or something.

Still waiting on the creation rules.

Also interesting is that Well of Woe is listed as a level 1 adventure, and the faction adventures are required before you play Well of Woe, so I guess you won't level in the faction adventure.

So after Kiddoc TPKs us can we make shirts that say Kiddoc TPKed me at Gencon!

I'm really looking forward to this... my first taste of Eberron as well.

I find it funny that Erika aprently changed her name to match that of Rikka!

I too am anxious to see the character creation rules.... perhaps we'll get some hints in the next couple of weeks.

Question:

When playing the "Faction" modules, does everyone in the party have to belong to the same faction?

That could make organizing a gameday or retail game fairly complicated.

From what I understand, YES, you must below to the faction for whom the faction module is written.

That seems daunting, but the reality is that with campaigns like LG, you had to offer a good bit a variety as well, as players could only participate in an adventure once, even if they have multile characters. Having a variety of LG adventrues at a big event was crucial to making sure that there was something for everyone.

Additionally, there is nohting to stop you from having characters of each faction...

Heh... poor Origins! Well it'll be to our benefit then! I can't wait! So, Blackwheel works for the dragonmarked houses... but I assume that to have a dragonmarked character we'll need campaign cards...

One thing the new article fails to mention is whether or not this is a level-bump campaign, or a "living" campaign. I'm guessing level-bump, and that's going to hurt its popularity among the LG crowd.

Boards should go "full live" late this Friday. I'll make sure that I stop by frequently and that my playtesters all make contributions as well.

While Origins has been touted as the "release" of the campaign, it's more of a chronological thing. GenCon is going to be when the campaign is pumped to its maximum.

During the campaign you can play in faction adventures (you pick one faction), or mixed adventures (characters from different factions sit down together--be warned there are MAJOR competing interests), and eventually we're working on both cooperative and competitive faction adventures as well.

I have a copy of the Campaign Standards in my hands. Some changes from Mark of Heroes--should be a lot of fun, particularly with the inter and intra faction conflict bits. They should be public within 7-10 days max. In addition, we've had Secrets of Xendrik and MMIV for a bit of time now, and we're working on including lots of source material into the early adventures from these books. If you happen to show up at Origins, expect to get a sneak peek at them. :)

Oh and Pat, Blackwheel Company is more of a "Heroes Inc." type of faction. Folks adventuring for the sake of adventure, glory, or wealth and esteem. All classes fit in well in the Blackwheel Compnay. In the BWC as you will soon learn from the campaign standards, some nonstandard races and feats are "unlocked" without the need for a campaign card. Characters starting in the BWC will be able to take a Dragonmark without the campaign card. Muahahaha!

I'm signed up for Sahuagin Stone on Thursday at 8 AM, Shadows Over Stormreach for Friday at 8 AM, and Well of Woe for Friday at 1 PM.

Will there be any point at which I can participate in the Delve, thus gaining the 3-point bonus to character generation? Or am I just screwed, because I signed up for the first available slot, on the first day, before details about the Delve and its bonus had been disseminated?

Delve is first-come, first-serve. I'm sure as the English say there will be a substantial "queue" but hey, the reward is well worth it. Bring your "A" game though, rumor has it that some tactical genius/former miniatures champion will be running the Delve. He's got a Drider with baleful transposition :P

The Delve is going to run a loooooooooong time (hell, I'm signed up to run it for 8 hours straight), so you should be able to get your shot. And no matter how poorly you do, you can always hop right back in line and go again.

Ah... I'm going to have to research the Dragonmarked... better get some Eberron books!

Thanks for the insight, as I've stated, I'm looking forward to this. I'm not sure how much I'll get to play, but certainly at WF and Gen Con, and maybe a spot game here or there in between.

I saw the boards yesterday, but (as of yesterday) posting was not allowed... I look forward to the flood to threads when things open up!

I managed to get a sneak peek of the campaign rules(character creation rules) over the weekend, and the different factions having (as Kiddoc mentioned) the ability to take nonstandard races/feats/classes is pretty interesting...

Will the mods have a longer play time than the current 3 month window of the MoH campaign? The ability to actually get a bunch of mods played may just drum up interest in the local gaming group.

Mark of Heroes just never caught on...

Yeah, I really need to work on my H/W list one of these days...

I think we're talking past one another.

(1) I'm busy with Xen'drik Expeditions immediately when the Con starts. (I.e., first event on Thursday.) Obviously I'll need a character for that.

(2) If I do the Delve later -- since I clearly can't do it before -- is there a retroactive 3-point buying bonus for stats?

(3) If not, is there any chance of doing a "bonus Delve," say Wednesday night or early Thursday morning, so that those folks who are in the first slot don't miss the opportunity everybody else will have?

Excellent, good to hear. Give the Blackwheel Company a spin. [:D]

(2) If I do the Delve later -- since I clearly can't do it before -- is there a retroactive 3-point buying bonus for stats?

Yes, you'll be able to apply that reward retroactively. At least IF you can surive the Delve. They're also giving out a lot of other prizes. I saw the 'Glyphs' today firsthand--very cool and nicely useful in the XE campaign.

(3) If not, is there any chance of doing a "bonus Delve," say Wednesday night or early Thursday morning, so that those folks who are in the first slot don't miss the opportunity everybody else will have?

This one I'm not 100% sure about. They're going to try and run the Delve into the wee hours, well past the final slot time--but it depends on the judge and their endurance. Killing PCs makes me sleep :P No seriously, we're trying to open it up to as many as possible--so the hope is that we hold out for as long as we can before collapsing of exhaustion.

Just wanted to point out that our WoTC forums are now active. Please stop by and visit (especially the BlackWheel Company section!).

Campaign standards should be out shortly. I've had them for several days now, they're just getting final approval/editing by the "powers that be."

Done and done!

I am anxiously awaiting the campaign standards to see what I have to work with. Good news about the dragon marks, if they allow kalashtar I will be torn as to what to play.

Well, the draft standards are up. No real surprises from what I can see. I guess I do need to go buy the ECS though!

Hmm... so this is rather piquing my interest in RPGA stuff... I'm going to be attending Origins (Fri/Sat), originally just for the minis, but I might jump in on one fo the Xen'drik Expeditions games should time allow. Which if the league is cancelled, is pretty guaranteed. How should I go about getting registered with RPGA (as I can't find an online signup for the life of me...) and would I have to have a character created ahead of time? If so, where can I find the campaign specific rules for it? Or would there be time allocated to do it at the Con?

Chances are I'll be looking at BWC for faction. [:)]

Will the mods have a longer play time than the current 3 month window of the MoH campaign? The ability to actually get a bunch of mods played may just drum up interest in the local gaming group.

Mark of Heroes just never caught on...

The only thing I'm afraid of is that everyone will want to play the evil faction. [}:)]

I say that only partly in jest b/c the thought of a warforged knight for the goody-goody faction seems almost too cool.

Why go evil or good? Why not go professional and adventure with the elite corps of the Black Wheel Company?

I just read that the Expedition mods (the extra long ones) will only be available at the big cons. Is this true?

That could be a huge mistake, considering the campaign is called Xen'drik Expeditions, and not everyone can make it to the big ones.

Also, I'm ready to bring evil into the light. Covenant of Light here I come.

Campaign Standard Available:

It's very, very cool. I like the freedom of the character creation.
