| Ok, I've made an intelligent magical item:
Azrá, Boots of the Celestial Huntsman: boots of striding and springing; AL NG; Int 17, Wis 10, Cha 17; Speech, telepathy, 120 ft. darkvision and hearing; Ego score 11. Lesser Powers: faerie fire 3/day, locate object 3/day, Item has 10 ranks in Knowledge (nature) (total modifier +13) Greater Power: locate creature 3/day Personality: Forged by the celestial hunter Azrá, and left to the elves, who he favoured above other races on the material plane, these boots at first appear mundane. However, upon closer inspection, runes run along the base, written in a strange mixture of celestial and elven. Azrá is well adapted to the wilderness, and is more than willing to aid a party in tracking down evil creatures - providing the elves feel the same as the adventurers!
Unforunately, it's a little late in the evening for me to work out the CL, Cost Price, etc. So, I'm posting that up in the morning. Please let me know what you think, and if I've made any terrible mistakes! Chris | | My Trading Thread

| Looks like something between a major wondrous item and a minor artifact. I think it looks fine as is. Caster level would quite a bit higher than for normal boots of springing and striding. Not sure how I would cost this. Again, higher than regular boots of springing and striding. Perhaps find a similar item that casts multiple spells per day and add 1.5x that items price to boots of springing and striding (cost bumped to reflect the fact that the extra effects don't take up an additional magic item slot). It would be great fun to role-play boots that don't like being walked on [:D]

| The only thing that seems out of place is the high charisma. Charismatic boots don't make much sense to me (I don't know why -- I can see a charismatic weapon or cloak or something, but not boots).

| | Charisma can be considered force of personality, not just attractiveness/charm/beauty. Perhaps the boots are strident (pun intended). Perhaps they're somewhat domineering. Perhaps they have an unusual attractiveness (aren't old, broken-in boots simply superior to new boots that give you blisters?). | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. Commander (#32) in only 6 months. It's really a mixture of 3 things:
- The Celestial, Azra's, personsality - The personality of the elves - The beautiful craftsmanship of the boots. | | My Trading Thread

| I sort of hate to ask, but what happens if the boots are separated? Does each separate shoe have a fragment of the total personality/powers? That might make a good mini-campaign--finding one of the boots and needing to track down the other one.

Well, I just couldn't see myself (or any character I was roleplaying) being thrilled at having a possible personalty dispute/taking orders from a pair of boots. Something about sentient boots just doesn't appeal to me as a player or DM.

| I haven't delved into the mechanics of the boots, but the overall impression i get is that they form a logical item as far as ability consistency is concerned, and also as they relate to where the boots come from.
The question about boot separation raised by dagonet is quite relevant. You'll have to address that one.
My only gripe about the object, apart from the separation that you might find a way to work around, is that boots are very... mundane items. For me, an artifact with intelligence and a personality that gets stepped on all day long lacks a bit in nobility. Boots are items to be used on an everyday basis so that your feet dont get dirty, so to speak. Having them be a relatively strong, personality-imbued item sounds kinda weird somehow. A sword is the instrument by which you might defeat a dragon, a helm is used to protect what is arguably your most important body part. But boots, they're dragged in the dung-filled streets of the cities and the dust of the desert and the mud of the forests. If you've done some hiking, you know what boots look like after only a few days, let alone a longer hike.
However, that's only my point of view, and it's a minor gripe, so if you're comfortable with the idea, by all means go ahead with it.
