| I've been enjoying reading Shoe's Red Hand of Doom Campaign Reports. He has an interesting cast of PCs, including a Warlock, Warforged Barbarian, Lurker, Dragonborn Paladin, and likely others I've missed.
While PCs are often outside the norm, due to their adventuring nature, published adventures usually stick close to the Core Rules, as they cannot anticipate which optional sourcebooks DMs and players might be using, or not have access to.
Inspired by the NEW WORLD threads in this forum, building a new world from the ground up, I was wondering what a campaign might be like WITHOUT the Players Handbook classes and races?
Okay, Monte Cook and other publishers have already done this with various settings, Arcana Unearthed for example, but I was wondering how this might look using only WotC published classes and races?
Rather than create a whole new world from the ground up, an easier way would be to take an existing campaign, such as Red Hand of Doom or Dungeon Magazine's Shackled City or Age of Worms Adventure Paths, and convert all the classed NPCs with similar classes appropriate to the NPC's role, such as Warlock, Lurker and the like. Elves might become Raptorans, Dwarves might be replaced with Goliaths, or whatever.
Some are already doing this, to a lesser degree, by converting these campaigns to the Eberron setting, replacing the Kitor elves (sp?) with Shifters, for example.
This would give players of these alternate characters rewards more fitting with their actual race/class, and feeling much more belonging to the setting. These races/classes now become the standard, so everyone becomes more familiar with these character options.
Would make for a very interesting campaign. | | http://www.maxminis.com/hwlist.asp?user=DarkWhite [for trade only within Australia, no overseas trade thanks] | |

| Too Much Work!
Hoestly, the main reason I purchase and run pre-made adventures is so that I don't have to spend hours of prep time anymore. Converting every npc to a different race and class is just not worth the effort.

| But it would be a blast ...
PCs don't really know what classes their enemies belong to. You could leave them be.
It would be really fun to run through an adventure with all the PCs using races/classes not found in the Player's Handbook. WOuld certainly be interesting.
