| I mean, geez, 8-sided dice for elemental damage that almost nothing has immunity/resistance to? Yeah, blah blah only one target blah, blah blah Fort save blah. I still think that's too much. Is it possibly a typo? Anybody else have a problem with this spell?

Nope, auto hit. A Fort save for half is "compensation" I guess.
I may house rule it down to d6s. Still pretty nasty.

| Comparing it to manyjaws, also a 3rd level spell from the compendium:
1) ManyJaws is 1d6/level, 10d6 max, save reflex
2) Manyjaws is untyped damage. One can make a case that it's physical damage (I probably would) but that's technically not the case. Sonic resistance is rare, but it exists.
3) Sound lance can't penetrate a silence spell
4) Manyjaws has to fly to the target, albeit at 40ft/sec
5) Manyjaws lasts for up to 3 rounds of concentration.
I dunno, I'd call it a wash with d8 dice. They are both also affected by spell resistance. I'd say it's a pretty reasonable spell, especially since good fortitude save tend to be common among burly monsters. | |
