Has anyone done the conversion to the Greyhawk setting recommended in the RHoB adventure (or even in any part of the Flanaess), and if so, would you care to share your geographical notes?

Very good chance I might be the first one trying to do this but I figured I ask anyway [:D]

Thanks!

I know that a conversion for Living Greyhawk has been done. When it will be released or where in the Flanaess it's supposed to be set, I have no idea.

Funny you should ask. I've set it in Greyhawk, but haven't actually given it a real location. The party is part of a mercenary company based out of Greyhawk city, and I've told them that they've traveled "many, many days" to reach the Vale, but haven't given an exact location, yet.

I looked over my Greyhawk maps (the ones from Dungeon mag) about 6 times, and couldn't find any place I liked. So, I've decided to keep it vague until the Living Greyhawk material comes out and then go with that if it makes sense. For now, the pace of the adventure makes it unlikely that my players will be leaving the area, and without an arcane caster to teleport (only a warmage), I don't think they'll be going too far.

Found this in my inbox a couple minutes ago from the Living Greyhawk Yahoo group for the PoU region (Florida). Sorry about the formating.

Gives some insight onto the conversion for LG, as well as where it's set:

_______Reposted from pou-discussion Yahoo Group___________

Howdy folks,

I'm giving out some information on the forthcoming "Red Hand of Doom" ADP
(Adaptable)
Living Greyhawk adventure on this list prior to it becoming available.

The adventure is MASSIVE. Played back-to-back it will cost 51 TUs to play.

This adventure is adapted for APL 6 in Parts One and Two, APL 7 in Part Three,
APL 8 in
Part Four, and APL 9 in Part Five. The expectation is for PCs to begin play of
Part One with
PCs who are either advanced 5th level (more than half-way in xp to 6th level) or
6th level.
Extremely effective 4th level PCs might be able to handle the adventure, and 7th
and 8th
level PCs will probably find much of the adventure to be not challenging enough.
So we
highly recommend the adventure be played by a party of PCs with a modified APL
of 6 (6
advanced 5th level PCs) or 7 (6 6th level PCs) so that the challenges throughout
the
adventure are properly balanced for the party’s experience level.

Note: PCs receive rewards for each Part of the adventure separately
(each Part has its
own Adventure Record). Furthermore, it is highly recommended that you award
experience and treasure as it is earned in the adventure. This is not the
standard method
of reward in Living Greyhawk, but it is necessary in this specific adventure as
it is game-
balanced with the expectation that the rewards are given as earned, rather than
at the end
of each Part.

If the PCs wish to play the five Parts, they must do so in order; they
cannot
participate in Part Four and then participate in an earlier Part. The adventure
is adapted
with the expectation that the PCs will play all five Parts one after the next;
however, the
adventure is divided so that the PCs play each Part individually, paying the TUs
for each
Part and earning the rewards from each Part separately. It is permissible to
play other
adventures in between Parts, but it is not recommended for both story purposes
and for
balance of play. PCs are rewarded in later Parts of the adventure for actions
taken
successfully in earlier Parts; so again, it is recommend the adventure be played
by the
same party in order, without taking time to play other adventures in between.
Each part is
written so that not all of the PCs need have played earlier parts; however, at
least one PC
at the beginning of each Part must have played the earlier Part in the
adventure.

This adapted version of Red Hand of Doom is set in the southwestern end of the
March of
Sterich, in the area near the headwaters of the Davish River, where the Jotens
and
Crystalmists meet.

More information will be made available as we learn it, but it would be wise to
start
planning now.

Cool news about the LG, I didn't know that, hopefully it is within the next two weeks [:p] My player's are currently based in the County of Ulech, so not far to go and it would make the horde a very near threat.

Snappa, that puts them right where the adventure says you should, which is right here

clicking takes you to my old website, I have the old boxed set map hotlinked [:)]

I decided to go with the suggested setting, and wrote a campaign background document for my players. I found an excellent post on EN World about Sterich which I appended to my doc (link below). I'm excited about possible continuations for the campaign after RHoD. The players will have a nice base of operations out of Vrath Keep, and could become major players in their mercenary company (using affiliations from the PHB2).

RED HAND OF DOOM CAMPAIGN BACKGROUND

I thought it would be useful for you guys to know more about the area of the Elsir Vale and its environs. This stuff probably won’t come into play during the Red Hand of Doom, but with your characters now having access to a base of operations in the area (Vrath Keep), if we continue this campaign after the adventure, I’ll probably use some of this background as a basis for further adventures. Everything in this document can be considered “character knowledge”. There will NOT be a quiz.

The current year is 596CY.

THE ELSIR VALE

The Elsir Vale is located in the southernmost reaches of the March of Sterich. The history of the march and its political clime can be found in the section entitled STERICH, below. The vale itself is far enough away from the seat of power to be considered an independent region, though Lord Kerden Jarmaath of Brindol does pledge fealty to the Marchioness.

The war with the giants was felt even this far south, and many of the sons and daughters of the region joined the armies that helped wrest Sterich free of the giants and their minions. Several of them lost their lives in the conflict, and many people of the vale blame the Marchioness and the “northerners” for the loss of the children, brothers, and sisters.

When the first rumors of a powerful figure uniting the goblinoid tribes of the northern Joten Mountains reached his ears, Lord Kerden sent word to the Marchioness in Istivin, requesting aid. The marchioness responded that no aid would be forthcoming. No reason for this denial was given, but it is surmised that the lords of Sterich are keeping their soldiers close to home, to stave off any land-grabs by each other.

Kerden, his own forces barely adequate to patrol and defend the villages of the vale, sent the prominent wizard, Immerstal the Red, to the free city of Greyhawk to seek out adventurers and mercenaries willing to aid the vale. There he found the Gray Company, a renowned mercenary company. Thorus Gray, leader of the company, agreed to assist the vale in gathering information on the goblinoids, and dispatched a unit of the company (you) to assist Lord Kerden. Once the nature of the threat has been ascertained, the company may deploy more resources to the region, for suitable monetary compensation.

Knowing the violent recent history of the region, Thorus gave you further instructions to determine if a permanent chapter house of the company, based in the vale would be financially viable. His trust in your rather inexperienced band on such a mission bodes well for your future in the company.

You traveled with Immerstal by teleport spell back to the city of Brindol where you met with Kerden and received your orders: Travel to the western edge of the vale, gathering what information you can about this Blue Prince and his forces.

It uses the standard core gods (Greyhawk), but the actual setting is supposed to be campaign-neutral. From what I understand, it's actually easiest to convert for the Forgotten Realms, as the setting's map is based on a region of the realms. Change place names and gods, and voila, it's done.

Ya my wife is pretty stoked about this module...we are putting
together a play group of about 7 people so if one is missing we
can have an alternate play-in...although a cohort might be an
option...might.
I figure, 51 time units (core so 2 TU's per session so 25 or
so sessions at maybe 4 hours per session...this is a long module).

I am figuring this will be difficult to recruit a consistant
judge for this module (I know if doesn't have to be ONE judge,
but it will certainly help with game continuity).

Well good luck to all those LG'rs

No news on when it's going to be out, but there's a whole lot of Florida LG people leveling characters like mad in order to be ready for it, since it'll only support APL 6+. I'll probably end up running it, since I'm currently running it for my home game.
