Does anybody know if the called armor special ability, from Defenders of the Faith (I think) has been updated for 3.5?

3.5 saw a change -- a good one, IMO -- from using "plus equivalents" for every special ability to using flat "plus gold pieces" for those abilities without a direct impact on combat. IMO, called, if updated, would benefit from this change.

Followup question: If called hasn't been updated, what would be a fair price for the ability? I'm thinking somewhere in the vicinity of +2,500 gp. The going rate for a feat-item is 10,000 gp, and called would have a small part of the utility of the Endurance feat.

WAY too low. Not having to wear heavy armor overnight or when sneaking into an enemy camp is worth far more than that.

It's hands down better than the Shadow and Silent Moves abilities when put on heavy armors, even if you are only looking at the ability to sneak with it (no armor check penalty vs. +5 competence bonus).

It's even better than Glamered armor since you won't have the weight to deal with. You also won't have people wondering why your clothes make so much noise (since the armor retains all it's properties) or radiate magic.

Adding in the standard action to don your armor instead of 5 or more rounds (depending on the armor) is just gravy...

I wouldn't price it below the Improved Shadow or Silent Moves at 15,000 gp. It offers kind of the same benefit in a specific situation (allowing a character with plate mail to sneak), but has other benefits on top of that. That may be overpriced for lighter armors, but it's probably still underpriced for heavy armors (which is what this ability was obviously designed for).

If you think that's bad, try going by the book...

Called used Teleport as the spell to enchant the armor (while that isn't exact, it also didn't have you roll to see if the armor missed Teleporting onto you).

Using the DMG Table 7-33 (pg 285), for a command word spell effect would make it cost 81,000 gp (spell level, 5, x caster level, 9, x 1,800 gp). Even if you reduced it by 30% for the "conditional use" of it only Teleporting your armor, that still makes it worth 56,700 gp.

Just because Defenders of the Faith only priced it at the equivilent of a +1 bonus doesn't mean much when you consider that book also had an ability priced at +3 that gave you a +4 bonus on your AC... [B)]

The Dragon Compendium has a specific armor with the Called ability on it (usable only by Paladins) that only operates within 10'. I don't have the book, but from the description of one of my player (who wants it) that armor is (IMO) severly underpriced as well (with not only Calling, but an always active True Seeing - in addition to other stuff - for about 24,000 gp).

I'd be tempted to scale it.
Light armor = +10,000
Medium armor = +15,000
Heavy armor = +20,000

Those numbers still feel a little low, but I'm rather cautious with most magic items until I've had a chance to playtest them. The +1 bonus in Defenders of the Faith was far too low.

Alternately I'd make it a +2 or +3 bonus (probably 2...3 seems a bit high).
