| | I picked up the Waterdeep book a while back, hoping to get a nicely detailed LARGE city resource book. Unfortunately, there is little detail on the locations in the city. Does anyone know where to find more detail on Waterdeep -- or failing that, any similarly large city? | | My H/W list is not current... Trade Reference List OLD Trade references (191) | |

| | Try some of the 1st or 2nd ed material. I've found that since TSR was publishing so many more boks than they are today, each one was able to have more information. You can often find these in PDF format for a little $$ so it's not bad if you can't find a hardcopy. | | Completed trades: blackthorne, Drakkengi,Thorgrin, Ironfist Boulderbender x2, ckissee, nasamonkey, Username, Star, Ace13 x3, emontedodger x2, Drconveyor, church, Joeyb, Sir Bozak The Damned, Xeromod, the other guy x2, Qucalion of Celene, Dagaron x2, berus316, qillan_dvra, AshloreDarkShadow

| | Does it have to be a Forgotten Realms city? And what level of detail are you hoping for? I think the City of Raven's Bluff is available in PDF for free at wizards.com | | It's deja vu all over again. | |

| I'm currently running a homebrew Undermountain campaign (set in Waterdeep) and Waterdeep information and maps were hard to come by. When it came out, I was dissapointed with the new Waterdeep book too. I have had to pretty much design my own locations, shops and the like in Waterdeep.
There's at least some descriptions of Waterdeep in the ol' 2nd edition Ruins of Undermountain adventure if you can find it.

| | Paizo's website should have PDFs of all the old FR Waterdeep stuff from prior editions. | | Anson on WotC boards | |

| It doesn't have to be Waterdeep (or even FR for that matter). I just figured that since I have the maps and the baseline info from the book it'd be easy to build on that, especially if there was Waterdeep-specific info out there.
I really dislike PDFs, as I don't like reading that much on-screen, and I'd have to print out anything I wanted to use at the game table.

| | The original City of Splendors box set had a decent ammount of info, but left a lot open for the DM to flesh out, too. It had all the important stuff like Khelben's tower and the Yawning Portal though. | | Completed trades: Gausse, Mazra, Pagansexy, Galerians, Lord_Raven, Drakkengi, Temujinn x2, Random Sasquatch, elf_ranger, Azuretide, Hung4treason, Griffrat (face2face), Nasamonkey Carpe Forum! | |

| Ah, misunderstood what you were asking for.
Maybe Ptolus will be right for your needs. | | Anson on WotC boards

| If you dont have the $$$ for Ptolus..
Necromancer Games is releasing (or already has..not sure) a sourcebook for a major city called "Bard's Gate".
I havent read it myself..But it might rule. Or at least it better rule. NG has been talking about the upcomming Bard's Gate book since they released their 1st d20 product. | | Champion of the Skulk Vindicated Champion of the Twig Blight

| Wow. I guess being out of the country for a few years takes you out of the loop. I had no idea Ptolus even existed (or is about to at GenCon). That looks awesome, but quite possibly TOO much.
Bard's Gate looks intriguing, but I can't find much info on it. | | My H/W list is not current... Trade Reference List OLD Trade references (191)

| | Don't know how you feel about Eberron, But Sharn: City of Towers is a very detailed city book, for a lot less $$$ than Ptolus. It could work for any magically-infused metropolis. | | Champion of the Entire Monster Manual 1! (Click link to see current progress!) Uncommon Painting Competition 2 Winner | |

| | How detailed is the Sharn book? Does it give a breakdown by district/neighborhood (shops, guilds, and all that), or just generalizations? I'm looking for lots of detail. | | My H/W list is not current... Trade Reference List OLD Trade references (191) | |

| how about the first edition supplement for Lankhmar? You can usually find it for <$20 on Ebay. It would obviously require some rewrite (both for edition and setting), but I've always loved that city...

Yeah me to..The wife pre-purchesed it for me as a surprise. I got my 5 free copies of the "Players Guide to Ptolus" along with the letter thanking me for pre-odering and I nearly pooped myself :) | | Champion of the Skulk Vindicated Champion of the Twig Blight

| | Sharn is broken down by district, with what kind of people live in each district, what kind of businesses operate in each district, and important NPC's. There's also a "Visitor's Guide," a chapter on politics, on crime and punishment, and daily life. There's also a couple of nice spells, like a nonlethal force "fireball" useful in crowded city streets that won't kill any bystanders (just knocks 'em out) or set any fires. | | Champion of the Entire Monster Manual 1!
