| What are the thoughts behind making a feat from a class ability?
For Example:
Knight 3rd level ability Bulwark of Defense
I was thinking of making it into a feat, maybe with a pre-requisite or two. Perhaps Deft Opportunist or Stand Still?
Or do you think that Class Abilities should be sacred? | | CHAMPION OF THE REDSPAWN ARCANISS
One day I will have to explain to my kids why they have to pay for their own college, but when they realize that I have a full set of Harbinger it should make sense to them... | |

| | I don't have the PHB 2 yet, so I can't speak as to that specific ability, but this is something I do all the time when I see a cool ability in an otherwise bleh class. | | The year: 1994. From out of space comes a runaway planet, hurtling between the Earth and the Moon, unleashing cosmic destruction! Man's civilization is cast in ruin! Two thousand years later, Earth is reborn... A strange new world rises from the old: a world of savagery, super science, and sorcery. But one man bursts his bonds to fight for justice! With his companions Ookla the Mok and Princess Ariel, he pits his strength, his courage, and his fabulous Sunsword against the forces of evil. He is Thundarr, the Barbarian!

| | Sorry, meant to put the ability desc in; basically it treats any area you threaten as difficult terrain slowing movement. | | CHAMPION OF THE REDSPAWN ARCANISS

| | I would allow it. Doesn't seem too overpowered or anything. | | The year: 1994. From out of space comes a runaway planet, hurtling between the Earth and the Moon, unleashing cosmic destruction! Generally no. However, in my own campaign, I prefer prestige classes to be very, very "campaign"-flavored, so that they're individualistic. In such cases, prestige class abilities often don't mix well with other classes as feats.
That said, I think that many of the class abilities would make excellent feats, and, in a way, I think that's a weakness of PrCs. I mean, I wouldn't want Sneak Attack to be a feat, or Cast Wizard Spells to be a feat. Similarly, I'd prefer prestige classes to have some class abilities that just shouldn't be feats. (Which ones though? Good question. After all, the Monk's Improved Unarmed Strike is just a feat.)
