Setup:

13th level cleric; Divine Spell Power; Improved Turning; Phylactery of Undead Turning.

When I use DSP to boost a spell, do I count Improved Turning and the Phylactery towards my end boost?

If I were to max the turning check, would I be casting the spell at 17th CL (without Imp.Turn. + Phylactery) or 22nd CL (with both)?

Thanks!

It says to add all normal modifiers that you normally add on turn checks to the special check for DSP, but that's probably only stuff like desecrate or consecrate. The Phylactery and Improved Turning modify your effective level, which as I read it, has no particular effect on DSP.

Hmmm...

One could argue that since the turn check result relies upon one's cleric level, you should add all level modifiers before making the final conclusion.

A 13 level cleric with Improved Turning and a Phylactery of Undead Turning would turn as an 18th level cleric.

One would then add the turn check result to that modified level.

The main question I have is whether DSP is, in fact, a standard Turn Undead with modified results, or whether it simply uses the rules for turning undead.

If it is the former, the Phylactery and Improved Turning should affect the result. If it is the latter, then they should not.

You said it yourself in your answer. Neither Improved Turning, nor the phylactery modify the actual turning check. Divine Spell Power only cares about the result of the turning check. It then applies that result to your caster level.

Unless I'm missing something, your effective level for turning undead does not appear anywhere in the feat text, so it doesn't contribute towards modifying your caster level.

Divine Spell Power is not a normal turn undead attempt. It is only the turning check, and that check then applies towards your caster level.

You are correct. I must have missed that part of the text.

Thanks!
