WotC's website has a web enhancement to their revised White Plume Mountain they put out as a free download.

The webenhancement has the stats for the 4th weapon Frostrazor and stats for Thingizzard the witch (both of wich were featured in the 2nd Edition adventure Return to White Plume Mountain).

Heres what gets me. Theres stats for Dragotha the Dracolich. If you didnt know...Dragotha (made currently famous for being in the Age of Wyrms Adventure Path) actually first appeared in White Plume Mountain. His lair was on the map. No stats were ever made..The Dragolich's lair was on the map mearly for flavor.

In Age of Wyrms Dragotha was a Gargantuan Red Dracolich.
In this new web enhancement Dragotha is a Gargantual Black Dracolich.

What gives?

Did WotC purposly change it because they wanted to thumb their nose at Paizo? Or was whoever wrote this web enhancement really so clueless as to not know that Dragotha was just recently in Dungeon Magazine's most popular adventure path?

The Webenhancement also goes on to say the Dragotha was first statted out in the downloadable adventure "Dragotha's Lair".
What who?
I cant find any such adventure in their list of downloadable adventures.
Where is it? If it exists maybe it was Paizo who were clueless about this "Dragoth's Lair" adventure.

Having seen this kind of question on other threads on other boards (like why the RPG supplement conflicts with the novels, etc) and the response it's gotten, this may be just an instance where they had two different sources of information and both sides don't have the resources to coordinate every project.Â

I am somewhat curious about the web enhancement reference issue.  Maybe it's something that was old and was removed?  That does seem strange.

To the first question, I'd suppose it has something to do with the fact that WotC has released a gargantuan black dragon mini and has not yet released a gargantuan red dragon mini. I've been known to be wrong, but that seems the likeliest, albeit somewhat flimsy, reasonining behind the shift.

To the second question, I doubt that this is a case of nose-thumbing. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and assume that the webhancement writer was "clueless" (i.e. not everyone knows what is going on everywhere else).

I don't really have much of a comment on the "Dragotha's Lair" thingy. Never heard of it and it isn't listed in the downloadables. Seems like a fairly strange tacet statement.

I would hope that it's not an instance of nose-thumbing.  In order for both companies to get the maximum benefit from their relationship, it's pretty necessary for them to work closely and to be on reasonable terms with each other.

It's possible that the writer simply forgot that Dragotha has been previously identified as a Red or didn't know in the first place.  There is a lot of information out there, and we have no clue as to how canon much of it is.

It's also possible that Dragotha was rumored to be a Red, but was actually a Black.  Or the other way around.  That's one of the things I liked about White Wolf's pre-revamp stuff--there was enough contradiction and confusion about almost everything so that you could decide what you liked and take it from there.

Either way, I need to download this enhancement.ÂFrostrazor?  I don't know if I like the sounds of that.

Minor thread derailment.....Seems as though many of the smilies are available if you type in the notation for them (i.e. colon + right parenthesis = standard smiley). Unlike on the old forums, the brackets ([ and ]) don't seem necessary.

Back on-topic, I just downloaded the adventure and it looks like a lot of fun. Can't wait to find time to run it.

Cool beans.

I took a look through Outside... and it appears interesting.Frostrazor isn't nearly as bad I'd feared.

Now, if only WotC would do proper conversions of the rest of the S-series---Halloween is just around the corner! }

The meta answer: mistakes happen.

The in-game answer: Over the many centuries, people have simply confused the names of two different dracoliches. One of these creatures is indeed Dragotha, the legendary female dracolich lairing near White Plume Mountain (her name ends in "a", suggesting female) and one is Dragoth, a male dracolich found in the Age of Worms adventure.

IIRC 2e stats for Dragotha were in an old RPGA Greyhawk module.
