please!

I'm still new at playing and my character is falling apart in the adventure I'm playing him in.
He's an Aasimar Favored Soul of Nerull. He's LN. I thought the god you picked didn't much matter as long as your alignment was at least a part of your god's. I thought Nerull is a pretty cool god so I picked him, BAD MOVE.

He just got into 3rd level (all favored soul) and he can't go to any of the Nerull temples because he's 'not pure' (pure being human, elf, ect. Can't be half-something or unnatural which is scoffed at by pure followers).

I've got bounty hunters after me. I don't know who they are or where they are, I've never encountered them.

I can cast healing spells, but don't get bonuses for my level and I can't turn or rebuke undead.

He was originally the team's healer, but the monk died and became a cleric so I'm now the character the team doesn't have any use for and doesn't seem to care about.
[Quote from the wizard] "It's o.k. if your charcter dies, that'll mean you can get a more useful character."[End quote from the wizard]

Please help fix my charcter!!

Off the top of my head I would say switch gods. Your character had a profound awakening and realized Nerull was the wrong diety for him, in fact you could roleplay the opposite way and become a crusader against Nerull. After all Nerull is an evil god one of his titles is Foe of All Good, Hater of life its a bit strange an Assimar was even a cleric of such a god in the first place.

You don't even need to change your domains if you don't want to you could just become a favored soul that preaches his beliefs as a universal mystery or constant rather than in relation to a specific diety.

If the bounty hunters are good seaching for an evil favored soul of an evil cleric then your change of heart should help get them off your case if its the other way round and the temple of Nerull sent them aftert hen its proof that Nerull was the wrong choice for you and you can make it into a side quest to stop them using yourself as bait. Of course this is mostly a roleplaying thing your DM may have other ideas about whats going on and what you should do.

If your at 3rd level you still have time to switch your focus from healing to buffing or other options, just start picking spells to refect your new world view or find an interesting prestige class and build towards it. For example you may decide to become a master summoner so you concentrate on summoning spells and find a PrC that buffs that.

Well fiirst of all, the favord soul was never that great of a class to start with. (being a divine scorcer and all) second, A party that would scoff at extra healing are all fools. Not just your regeular fools, I mean really big "the wizards digs a pit trap while being overrun by orcs" fools.

What happens when the cleric goes down? you call on the trusty Assimar recently converted to St. Cuthbert.

I've been told that if I switch gods Nerull will get pissed and and send laods of things to come and kill me.
And how would I justify changing gods anyway? I'm not trying to make this harder, but isn't a favored soul a tiny sliver of a god? I would change gods but still have bits of nerull in my blood, right?
I've been tld the bounty hunters are after me because I'm not from this world (Aasimar).
I was thinking to peeve Nerull a bit I'll start taking levels in paladin after my 5th level of favored soul (get 3rd level cleric spells).
Finding the right prestige class for my charcters is like trying to find a lost treasure. Is there a website of a lot of PrCs anywhere?

The way i unserstand it an Aasimer is part celestial and a Tiefling is part infernal so unless  your DM has a house rule or roleplaying thing you shouldn't be part of Nerull. I would also think a 3rd level character doesn't even register on Nerull's radar so any retribution would come from a local church rather than divine intervention. But once again your DM may have different plans and ideas so I don't want to step on his toes.

I am curious as to how a favored soul of Nerull could become a paladin, unless your in Eberron or have a house rule, you must be within one step alignment wise of your diety and a paladin has to be LG. And a LG paladin would quickly be ostrasied and tossed from an evil church must the sme way an obvious evil character would be from a good church IMO.

IF you do become a paladin to peeve off Nerull then you may be takeing the roleplaying step I mentioned before and becomeing a crusader against Nerull. It sounds like thats pretty much your best choice at this point as your being hunted by the church anyway so why not embrace it and maybe gain some allies against your hunters. I'm sure the church of Nerull has many enemies.

WOTC has an index of all PrC's but i'm at work right now so I don't have the bookmark, if you still can't find it i'll post it tommorrow.

First, So you invoke the wrath of an evil God. What do you want to live forever? but seriously, a repenent favord soul of an Evil god is always a feather in the cap of a Good alinged curch.

Second, you have seen that ways the curch of Nerull treats you.  Why would you want to hangout with them anyway. You have seen the light and wish to repent your not so good ways.  a good ol' fashiond atonement spell should do the trick. (the quick and short of the spell, it forgives past misdeeds.)

If I started following St. Cuthbert I would be LG since all his clerics are LG which is one step away from LN. That would allow me to be a paladin.

Atonement spell, could I get it for free for joining the church of St. Cuthbert? If not, would it cost a lot (probably as a scroll)?

Also, an aspect of Nerull himself is travel which isn't as evil as the rest of him in this game and that's how I'm able (I think) to be an Aasimar who's god is Nerull and is LN.

I'm confused though, is a favored soul a small bit of a god? That's what it sounds like in the book. If so, even if I changed gods and alignment I would still be attached to nerull, correct?

Would becoming a paladin be worth it?

I remember checking WotC's prestige class list. All it says is the name of the PrC and what book it's in.

Favored souls are best as utility characters. You have to find the niche in the party that isn't being filled. In my experience though there isn't such a thing as too much healing.

Just because you have another cleric doesn't mean you can't be the healer. Perhaps it just frees the other guy to use buff spells while you heal, or crazy thought you can each do a bit of both as the situation merits.

That being said a LN Aasimar Favored Soul of a NE God of Death? That's 2 steps away from the deity's core alignment and it seems odd that a god of death would be granting healing magics. Your DM must have some pretty non-standard rules.

Aside from the numbers what is your character like? What's his personality? What does he believe in? He's a favored soul of Nerull why? Does he truely believe in his gods vision? Info like that will help determine where the character should go in the future to make it seem natural as opposed to numbers based gaming.

It's hard to explain his personality. He doesn't do much. He mostly tries to constantly upgrade his sythe and he's starting to get angry how he's being treated by the Nerull followers.

That could be part of the problem. Put some more thought into the character beyond his basic class and alignment. What's the plot in the campaign? How does he feel about it?

The more you flesh out the little details of the character the harder if will be for your group to set you aside.

If he's angry about how he's being treated what's he going to do about it? If the church of Nerull is really out to get him then perhaps it will be the catalyst to finding a new more suited faith.

What you may see as a problem is really a chance for great roleplaying. Fight to change the shurch. Those other clerics of Nerul are getting it wrong, show them the way! Mortals have changed the gods roles and titles in the past. Look at Wee Jas. She was orginally just a goddess of magic until the Rain of Colorless Fire/Invoked Devestation incident and then she became a goddess of death.

As for your party role, you don't need to change class if you don't want to. If you feel you are better as a paladin, then be so. But since you are no longer the main source of healing, use your spells to make you that awesome combat cleric. Use your spells to make yourslf awesome. No one's that fantastic at 3rd. You may not be the best now, but your spells will make you a big badass front line fighter over time.

jacksonM, what do you mean by more detail? I don't quite understand.

maijstral, much appreciated.

gss_000, I'm not sure how I could 'change' the church of Nerull. The very powerful followers are almost deathknights with vampiric, grey hair that sucks out your blood. I think it would be quite hard to change their mind about something like making them figure out I'm right and they're wrong.

Details like what the character's background is, where he's from, what does he believe in, what are his goals, motivation for adventuring, what personality traits does he have, why is he a favored soul of the god of death?

Without things like that characters are just loose colections of numbers and things, as two dimensional as the paper they're written upon. Characters like that are easy for a group to set aside.

Okay, it was a little detail for what I'm getting at, but here goes.

If your character goes down this path, you are really in essence trying to start a new church.  If you can convert enough people that your way is the "right" way to worship Nerull that can change his aspect and what he stands for.  Are you in a village?  Preach to the crowd. Hold services.  Be grass root about the whole process.  Heal and do good (or more neutral) in the name of Nerull.  Anyone calls you on it, explain howthey have it wrong. In the Geoff region of Living Greyhawk, Nerull is an aspect of nature (one of the 4 main druidic gods along with Ehlona, Beory, and Obad Hai) and is viewed as just  part of the cycle of life so if you are in a Greyhawk based campaign you even have that framework to work with.  You can try to preach the same ideas.  In game mechanics, this might mean taking Leadership (you might have a good Cha score for this) and your followers could be members of your new church.  Get a bard cohort with a lyre of buiding and start popping those "Reformed Churches of Nerull"  all across the country.

As for those powerful members, yes, you probably won't change them directly.  At first they should just leave you alone or send (excuse the metagaming) CR appropriate people to take care of you.  But remember over time you are going to be badass and can take on these threats when they come to you.  And there will probably be a clash somewhere down the line.

This gives your character something to focus and build his charachter with while actively working on the problem you originally mentioned.  You can also continue building your scythe by giving it a cool name and making it a symbol of what you are trying to do.Â

There are other ways you can go, but you can see this in game adversity as just a way to get better stories going.

Shadowlord,

You have received a great deal of good advice in this thread as far as I can see.  I have to admit from my point of view that you do seem to be playing in non-standard type of campaign if your DM allowed a LN Aasimar to become a favoured soul of a NE god.

One thing I would add, talk to your DM about what his conception of the campaign world is, and what the role of the PCs is within it?  Are you playing an evil campaign?  Being a worshipper of Nerull in a group of good PCs is almost a recipe for conflict and not having fun in a campaign.

I don't know if that helps.

Cheers

I will admit this is a lot of help and I thank you all.
We aren't playing an evil campaign. Like it sounds I'll be probably changing to St. Cuthbert and hope to retribute Nerull for making me a favored soul (Remember you are born as a favored soul).
I'm starting to become slightly evil too which is bad. I was going to interogate the gnome because he was hiding something about a hidden magic in an area we where battling in and I was thinking of kiling him if he didn't answer. Then I just thought of cutting one or both of his hands off instead of killing him. Is that being CE? Either way I hope to stop.
I'm pretty sure this is a home brew campaign. A gold dragon was killed by a friggen' strong poison. Plus, Nerull is called Dracovery, A LG god is The Wyrm (Worm?), and a coulple other gods with different names.
