| D&D has always been the big system for me. All the way through the
boxed sets to AD&D to the current edition and a 4th should it come.
Back
in the day I use to play and run a lot of Marvel Super Heroes as well.
Not to mention some other hero games like DC Heroes (Mayfair), Heroes
Unlimited, Silver Age Sentinels, TMNT, and Mutants and Masterminds.
Right
now I'm getting ready to run a 3rd Edition Shadowrun campaign, it's a
game I've been playing since the 1st edition. Like you I didn't care
for the 4th edition.
So many games I've played and enjoyed, almost too many to mention but I'll try....
Let's
see: Battletech, Mechwarrior, Paranoia, Top Secret, Star Frontiers,
Boot Hill, Werewolf, Night Life, MERP, Rolemaster, Star Wars (both
systems), Gamma World, Toon, Teenagers From Outer Space, GURPS.
Lots of good games there. I miss playing non-d20 systems now and then.

| Systems I've played:
D&D: basic set through 3.5
Star Wars WEG (more d6s than you can shake a stick at)/d20 (better, still needs work)
Battletech
Star Trek
Shadowrun 3rd (holy d6s batman!)
Cyberpunk
Lone Wolf (Mongoose d20)
Mage, the Ascension
Vampire, the Masquerade
Werewolf (White Wolf)
Changeling
GURPs
Wheel of Time d20
TOON
Discworld RPG
Munchkin d20
Killer (anyone seen the movie Gotcha!?)
Systems I rather liked:
D&D 3.x
Cyberpunk
Lone Wolf
TOON (how can you not like playing a cartoon character?)
Killer (entertaining--I prefer fantasy LARPs)
Systems I really didn't like:
Shadowrun (Cyberpunk is better)
White Wolf games (Vampire, Werewolf, etc)
GURPs (yegads, it's bad) Star Trek (especially ship-to-ship battles)
Munchkin d20 (the card game is a better waste of time)

| I've played: D&D (1st and 3rd Ed), AD&D (1st+2nd), Shadowrun, Cyberpunk, Paranoia, Vampire, Werewolf, Chill, Before the Flood, Star Frontiers, Top Secret, Mutants and Masterminds, L5R, TFOS, Amber, GURPS, and a couple I can't remember the names to its been so long.

What systems didn't you like?
I loved L5R. Probably my favorite outside of D&D. Mutants and Masterminds was also a blast to play, and so was Paranoia, although I wouldn't play that too often.
I didn't like Star Frontiers or Shadowrun. The latter was probably because of a GM who didn't explain anything to me on my first time playing.

| Hrm.... You loose track after a while.
OD&D D&D (basic/expert etc.) AD&D AD&D 2.0 D&D 3.0 D&D 3.5 Rolemaster MERP Star Frontiers Elfquest Twilight 2000 GURPS Runequest Thieves world (was this a seperate game?!) Talislanta
Nothing ever really grabbed my attention except D&D. I thought 2.0 was the bomb, but looking back, I'm not certain what I was thinking. I really enjoy 3.x. The worst was Rolemaster, followed closely by MERP. the charts and d100 thing was just brutal. I'll never forget spending 4 hours at first level to defeat one group of Orc's (we didn't come close to dying, it just took that long...). Egads...

| Wow. There are a lot that I've polayed...here's the list that I can remember:
Basic D&D (red box through gold box) 1st edition AD&D 2nd edition Ad&D 3rd edition D&D Vampire: the masquerade Werewolf mage Warhammer (rpg) Marvel superheroes DC heroes Conan shadowrun (3rd) traveller rolemaster star wars (weg) star wars (d20) rifts TMNT heroes unlimited street fighter hunter: the reckoning James bond (for like an hour...bad system) Battletech..back when mini games were really rpg's
Hmmm...that's all that springs to mind at the moment. D&D is still my favourite. I think I've played with 80% of everthing put out under the d&d/AD&D banner. Nothing beats spell slinging and sword swinging for me.

| I have played D&D basic, first edition, second edition ( I miss it ) and 3.5. I have played Warhammer Fantasy Role-Playing quite and lot and made a version with level progression just like D&D. One of the earliest games I have played is Star Frontier ( Does anyone know it ? I am looking for books...) as the futuristic setting and odd races were captivating. I played Battletech a few times, hated the hexagonal maps... Shadowrun is another I tried, but we stopped playing for unknown reasons. Oh, we used Rolemaster's Arms and Claws Law for D&D criticals, it is worth a try.
I also made several RPG's of my own with maps, hand-drawn ( poorly ) monsters, weapons and armors in many different settings. I am still toying around with a post-apocalyptic world with demons, werewolves and mutants as well as a game based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms era and characters. Oh, and I still play my home-made version of hockey simulation. I may be forgetting a few as well.

I liked d6 so I did not play SW d20 then. I like the d20 better now. I will probably like it more with the saga edition rules. | | Evil triumphs when good men fail their morale saves.

| Going through the the Encylopedia of RPGS (http://www.darkshire.net/~jhkim/rpg/encyclopedia) to refresh my memory, this is what I have come up with. I know I've missed a few I've done one-offs with, and there are many I've read and maybe own, but never played (Burning Wheel, Spawn of Fashan come to mind).
Arduin Call of Cthulhu Champions Chill Chivalry & Sorcery Crimebusters? (early Dragon magazine mini-rpg) D&D (Basic, Advanced, 3.0, 3.5) Daredevils DC Superheroes (Original) Dragonquest Dragonlance (Saga) Dying Earth RPG Elfquest Everway Fading Suns Fantasy Hero Fantasy Trip Gamma World Golden Heroes Hero Wars James Bond Justice, Inc. Marvel Superheroes (Original) Melanda: Land of Mystery Metamorphosis Alpha Pendragon Powers & Perils Runequest (2nd, 3rd & 4th) Sovereign Stone Space Opera Star Trek (FASA) Star Wars (d20) Stormbringer Superworld Timemaster Toon Top Secret Torg Traveller (1st ed) Twilight 2000 Villians & Vigilantes Warhammer
and some military RPG whose combat system had a transparent crosshairs sheet put on your character portrait to determine where you were hit.
Best Systems D&D 3.0Â (Brought me back after 2E drove me completely away) Melanda, Land of Mystery (of course, I'm friends with the designers) James Bond (best game to truly capture the feel of its genre - still best spy game ever) Champions and variations (flexible as long as your players don't go overboard in min/max play) Dragonquest (nice balance between skill system and class system)
Worst Systems Powers & Perils (keep track of every hit, because too messy) Space Opera (1 entire session for character generation)
Worst Read But Not Played Superhero 4044 (how does this game work?) Spawn of Fashan (great read, totally unplayable)

| I've played and ocasionaly run D&D A D&D A D&D 2nd ed D&D 3 and 3.5 Gurps Amber Call of Cthulhu Earthdawn StarWars Weg StarWars D20 Spycraft Mutants and Masterminds Shadowrun Over the Edge Vampire Werewolf Mage Exalted Legend of the Five Rings Buffy the Vampire slayer Runequest Feng Shui Champions Rifts Beyond the Supernatural Numerous Homebrewed RPG's
Games I didn't like: Pretty much all of the World of Darkness games are out for me. I'm looking for a game, not a story with railroaded overpowered NPCs. I didn't care for the complexity of Champions, the GM pretty much built my character. I've got nothing but contempt for L5R, but that's mostly due to my inability to roll anything but a disaster on the background table and the efforts of several GM's.
Games I realy like: After Champions gurps is pretty simple. I love running games in gurps, my League of Extraordinary Gentlemen game was run in that system. Call of Cthulhu is very dear to my heart. I've found both Exalted and Buffy a blast to play and run as well. | | Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk, agh burzum-ishi krimpatul

| D&D before there were books!
Gamma World - Just gotta love a game where rabbits get guns
Boot Hill - Was that really roleplaying or a precursor to skirmish? Every session broke down into a gun fight between all the players kinda like Quick and the Dead.
Tried Modern D20 - I got to be the priest/surgeon. Maybe another character would have resulted in more involvement for my character. | | Champion of Cyclops
