Character Introduction
This is the story of six adventurers who through no particular actions of their own accord, have been thrown into the world of high adventure.

Growing up in the small farming & merchant village of Dulsin was a quiet and oft boring existence. This would change however for a particular group of friends. Life has a way of shaping heroes from normal people, and life in Dulsin was about to repeat this particular action. Thrust into the world of adventure, treasures, and dangerous monsters; a small group of young friends would find themselves relying not only on their own abilities, but on those of their closest friends as well.

Rhianna, easily the more mature member of the group, would have to excel in her talents and mastery of the Bastard Sword, all while being the unofficial 'mother' of the group. Through her early years and the beginnings of her teenage years, Rhianna climbed through the ranks of the students who studied under the watchful eye of Dulsin's Weapon Master. Her skill with the Bastard Sword was unmatched amongst the male students. At only sixteen years of age, Rhianna stood six feet tall, her well toned and lithe form hiding well the power that the young woman could muster. Blessed with long golden locks of hair and peircing ice-blue eyes, Rhianna could soften even the hardest resolve with just a look. But she refused to move through life in this way. If requests were not met with action straight away, then it would be pressed into importance at the point of her sword.
The young woman's resolve was tested early in her young adulthood, when her fiancee was killed by a young Necromancer, along with many others of Dulsin. Rhianna's anger and rage was undeniable. With the help of her three closest friends, Krah; Jason; & Raktor, the Necromancer was hunted down and driven from the shire. Angered at her own inability to dispatch the Necromancer from the world of the living, Rhianna returned to her teacher, and devoted her immediate time to her weapon studies.
It would not be long however, before she was called on by the elders of the village. She and her friends were to help Dulsin survive a plague of fungal growth that threatened the village and the surrounding farms. After a long and arduous mission into the depths of an abandoned Dwarf mine, Rhianna and her group of adventuring friends returned to Dulsin once again victorious. The homecoming was not without sadness however. Raktor had lost his life in a melee combat with a HobGoblin. This was not to be the last time Rhianna would venture outside of Dulsin's safety.
After sharing the wealth of their adventuring amongst each other, one of the adventurers, Krah, found a crumpled old map laying in the bottom of a sack they had appropriated from the corpse of a Goblin. The map showed directions to an ancient keep, and had notes telling of a enormous treasure believed to be there. Krah was going in search of the treasure, and could not be stopped. Rhianna had decided to tag along as a way of repaying Krah's kindness that he displayed when Rhianna's fiancee had been killed.

Krah, would have been the 'child' of the group, if not for his age. While he was older than his other friends, he was slow and unsure. Reaching his early teenage years, Krah was introduced to a local Druid Circle where he came to the realisation that he had a special understanding of nature. The effection that was shared between the wildlife and the Half-Orc was unheard of in the Druid Circle. It was through his teachings as a Druid, that Krah had finally found his niche in society. As the Half-Orc grew older and entered his early adulthood, he was more accepted by the citizens of Dulsin. Twenty-two years of age, standing just short of six feet in height and weighing in at 325 pounds, Krah was effectionally known as Dulsins 'Gentle Giant'.
When his friend Rhianna was in trouble, Krah was the first to offer his help. Swept up in Rhianna's rage, Krah followed his friend. Her safety, his only concern. When the friends returned from defeating the Necromancer, Krah returned to the nearby woods, and continued his studies.
It was Krah that approached Rhianna, Raktor; and his other friend Jason, on behalf of the village elders when a mysterious fungal plague threatened Dulsin and the surrounding farm lands. The foursome delved deep into an abandoned mine and were able to halt the practices of an evil Druid. Upon returning to Dulsin, the friends were given a heroes welcome. Krah was deeply emotionally affected by the loss of his Half-Orc friend Raktor, and cut short his involvement in the celebrations, and after dividing up the rewards and treasures found during their mission, he returned to the woods to console himself.
It was while on his own version of a sabatical that Krah did find a crumpled old map in the bottom of a sack. The feelings that the Half-Orc had felt during his last two adventures flooded back, coursing through his orcish viens like a drug. Krah's excitement boiled over, and he visited his dear friend Rhianna and explained that he would be leaving Dulsin and why. Rhianna, and Jason, decided that the trio should stay together, and so the two humans offered to join Krah on this latest adventure.

Jason, the eldest of the two humans. Jason had parted ways with his friends early in his life. His father was a woodcutter, and lived deep in the woods that surround Dulsin. The only reason Jason had recieved any sort of education was due to his mother. Once his mother had passed away, Jasons father removed him from the trappings of 'city life' as he called it, and whisked the young boy off into the woods to follow in his chosen profession. Jason returned to Dulsin from time to time, and was able to keep contact with his friends on a tentative basis. Eventually Jason returned to the village and set himself up in a small business. Times were hard though, and Jason's business failed to make him a worthwhile income. He was all ready to leave Dulsin for good, when news of Rhianna's fiancee reached him. Rushing to his friends aid, Jason was drawn into the world of adventure and the promises of treasures.
Upon returning to Dulsin after he had dealt the final blow to the Necromancer, Kith. Jason and Krah began to work together protecting the woods around Dulsin. When Krah approached him and Rhianna on behalf of the village leders, Jason had no second thoughts about helping his friends and his village. When Raktor was killed by the HobGoblin in the abandoned mines, and both Krah and Rhianna retreated into their comfort zones, Jason was inadvertantly abandoned.
It was during this time that Jason had rekindled his friendships with three of his other friends from his childhood. Sobeliss a High-Elf Monk; Skrat a Halfling Spellthief; and Crystal a Half-Elf Cleric of Pelor. The four friends talked big about adventuring and making a name for themselves, but nothing ever eventuated away from the tavern table. That was, until Krah and Rhianna approached the Ranger. Once Jason had been told what was happening, he quickly offered to join his two friends. Any feelings of abandonment quickly left the Rangers mind. The promise of treasures and adventure lay ahead.

Jason didn't forget the groups other friends. All three were asked if they would be interested in finally embarking on that adventure they always talked about at the tavern table. Skrat, Crystal, and Sobeliss all agreed and joined the group. The six friends left Dulsin and headed out on possibly their biggest adventure yet. Maybe this would be the one, the one that would mark their place in history, stories, & fables....

I had decided nearly 2 weeks ago, that I was not going to use the maps that come with the adventure RHoD. So instead, I made scenic/3d versions of the required maps as can be seen in the first pic. I am going to try and do this for each of the encounters, where/when it is at all possible.

**SPOILERS FROM THIS POINT ON!!!!**

After having found the crumpled map showing the rough location of an ancient keep, and some scribbled notes about a horde of treasure, the party of adventurers left the relative safety of their home village of Dulsin, and headed out in search of the keep.

'Day 1: Marauders.'

As the party continued their trudging through the hills and dales, they approached a section of road where off to the south they could see the ruins of a long abandoned farmhouse. Ahead of them the road was cut deeper into the ground. Rhianna signalled for the group to halt. She had spotted something in the trees ahead of their position. As it became obvious to her, Rhianna warned the rest of the group of the danger ahead. Four Hobgoblins had positioned themselves up ahead.
Rhianna moved towards a small outcrop of trees that hung over the edge of the road to get some cover as she advanced closer to the Hobgoblins. Sobeliss mirrored the Fighter's tactic, but on the opposite side of the road, attempting to get cover from the two Hobgoblins that he had seen on that side of the road, hiding in the trees as well. Crystal cast Bless on the party as they begun to move into their preferred positions. At the same time, Krah cast Entangle targetting the center of the road between the two groups of Hobgoblins. As the spell took effect, four of the Hobgoblins failed thier reflex saves and were entangled by the massing vines. Skrat lined up one of the 'free' Hobgoblins with his sling and was able to plant the sling bullet squarely between the creatures eyes, killing it instantly. Jason lined up the other 'free'  Hobgoblin and rapid-fired his compound shortbow, killing the creature with two successive hits. One to the abdomen and the second to the chest. With two of the six creatures already downed, and the other four entangled, the melee experts held their advance, and were willing to allow the ranged experts to take down the threat.
As Rhianna slowed her advance, she looked to her right just in time to catch the sight of a wisp of smoke and the movement of a small bush. Charging out of the underbrush was a Hellhound. It lunged at the Fighter, but was unable to land a hit. At the same time, coming out of the ruined farmhouse were a second Hellhound, a Hobgoblin Cleric and a Bladebearer Hobgoblin. The three creatures moved into position outside of the ruin, and the Cleric summoned a third Hellhound only 10' away from Krah & Crystal. The Bladebearer drew both of his shortswords and yelled a warcry. The summoned Hellhound positioned itself and let loose a jet of flame from it's mouth. The flame leapt out 10' from it's gaping jaw and the Cleric and Druid both suffered minor wounds, as their flamable gear began to ignite. With two Hellhounds now basically flanking the party, and a third moving in to attack the Spellthief, it seemed the tables had turned for the worse for the adventuring friends. As the third Hellhound moved in to breath fire on Skrat, he evaded the jet of flame and was able to dodge taking any damage. None of the four entangled Hobgoblins managed to free themselves from the effect of the Entangle spell.
With the introduction of these new foes, Rhianna leapt into action. She readied herself and swung at the Hellhound that had charged her from the underbrush. The fighter's sword bit deeply into the creatures flesh, but only seemed to anger it more. Skrat moved away from the third Hellhound and fired on Rhiannas adversary, missing that Hellhound completely and only barely missign the Fighter with the sling bullet. Jason opened fire on another of the entangled Hobgoblins but the cover provided by the woods stop the sots from hitting their intended target. Sobeliss moved out from his covered position on the road side and charged the two remaining Hellhounds, stunning one of the beasts. The Cleric and Druid went into 'enhancing mode' and cast Bulls Strength on the Fighter, and Magic Weapon on the Monk.
The four entangled Hobgoblins continued to try and break free of the vines and plants, but failed. With it's kin stunned, the other Hellhound attacked the Elf Monk, but was unable to cause any damage. The Bladebearer Hobgoblin moved in and attacked Crystal, it's longsword slicing deeply into the Half-Elf's flesh. Meannwhile the enemy Cleric who had moved closer to the parties location, simply disappeared. Recognising the gestures made by the enemey Cleric, Krah warned his friends that the Hobgoblin was in fact still in the area. It had just cast Invisibility on itself, and the rest of the adventurers should be careful.
The Spellthief moved further away from the Hellhound that attacked the Monk, and took aim at the stunned Hellhound. The Halflings sling bullet hit the Hellhound in the side and a cracking sound was heard as the Hellhounds rib splintered under the impact. Sobeliss attacked the active Hellhound with a Flurry of Blows and killed the beast where it stood.  Rhianna charged past the still stunned Hellhound and collided with the Bladebearer Hobgoblin. A shower of sparks rained through the air as the two locked swords. Rhiannas blade deflected of the Bladebearers shortsword and dug deep into the Hobgoblins shoulder. Crystal moved towards Rhianna and cast Cure Light Wounds on the Fighter. Krah continued to enhance his teammates and cast Might of Oaks on Sobeliss. Jason opened fire on one of the entangled Hobgoblins and slew the creature with two arrow hits.
Appearing from nowhere, behind Crystal, the enemy Cleric attacked. Crystal stumbled as the blow hit her squarely in the back. The Cleric remained standing however. The Bladebearer Hobgoblin swung at Rhianna, but it's attack bounced harmlessly off the Fighters half-plate armor. Two arrows launched from the treeline at Sobeliss, and he managed to avoid the missiles. Two of the Hobgoblins had freed themselves from the entangling vines. The previously stunned Hellhound was now able to act again, and charged at the Spellthief, hitting the small halfling head on. Blood spurted from the halflings shoulder as the Hellhound bit deeply into Skrats flesh. The remaining two entangled Hobgoblins tried in vain to release themselves from the vines. As he was turning to aim at one of the last entangled Hobgoblins, Jason spotted six more figures appearing from around the bend in the road. Rienforcements!
Skrat moved away from the Hellhound and fired into the melee containing the Hobgoblin Cleric and the Half-Elf Cleric. The Halflings shot was acurate and struck the enemy Cleric in the lower back. Using his abilities as a Spellthief, Skrat effectively stole some of the enemy Clerics spell power with the hit, and then used that power to cast Distract Assailant at the Bladebearer Hobgoblin, causing the creature to become momentarilly distracted. Rhianna took advantage of Skrats spell and hit the Bladebearer squarely in the midrift with her sword, felling the creature where it stood. Krah and Crystal fought of the attacks from the enemy Cleric, while Jason killed yet another of the entangled Hobgoblins with arrow fire. Sobeliss attacked the last remaining Hellhound, killing the beast.
The Hobgoblin 'reinforcements' moved into the woods either side of the road and pressed their advance on the adventurers under the cover of the woods. Two of their number attempted to aid the last remaining entangled Hobgoblin, but got themselves entangled in the spells effect. The other four Hobgoblins fired at Sobeliss, all failing to hit the High Elf. With the Hellhounds and the Bladebearer killed, the Hobgoblin Cleric fought for his life, alone. Another swing of his longsword would have felled the Half-Elf Cleric, but Krah stepped in the way of the incoming blow. The druid deflected the sword with his longspear and the Hobgoblin's attack was for naught.
With the immediate threat of the Hellhounds now removed, Skrat took aim at one of the now three remaining entangled Hobgoblins, and killed it with a single sling bullet. Rhianna moved in and dispatched the enemy Cleric with a solid blow from her sword. Sobeliss re-entered the main road from the track where the Hellhound and Hobgoglins had appeared from, and moved towards the new threat. Crystal and Krah went about healing the Half-Elf with healing spells and salves. Jason took aim at one of the four 'free' Hobgoblins, and rapid fired his compound shortbow. the first shot struck true and killed one of the hairy humanoids. The second shot failed completely. The Ranger had not cocked his second arrow correctly, and when he fired the arrow shot from the bow and went directly down to the ground, peircing the Rangers foot.
Krahs Entangle spell begun to to dissipate, and the remaining Hobgoblins were freeing themselves. A hail of arrows fell on the party. Sobeliss managed to evade the incoming missiles as did Skrat and Rhianna. One of the arrows struck the Ranger, but only lightly cut the skin as it deflected of Jasons armor.
Skart again killed another of the Hobgoblins with his sling. Sobeliss moved in and killed two more of their number in melee combat, as did Rhianna. With only one Hobgoblin remaining, Jason took aim. His forst shot missed the humanoid, but his second shot found it's mark as he peirced the Hobgoblins chest with the arrow.
With the threat now completely defeated, the adventurers went about dragging the bodies intothe woods out of sight, healed themselves as best they could, and checked the bodies of the fallen for anything that might be of use. They then headed out and continued on their journey.

After dealing with the NPCs in Drellin's Ferry, the party rested for the night and suited up early on the second morning. With information at hand they set out along the Dawn Way. The plan was to follow Sorannas directions and follow the Dawn Way until they reached the intersection for the Witch Trail. From there they would attempt to find Jorr and hire him as a guide.

We catch up with the PCs just after they have left the relative safety of Drellin's Ferry.

Travel along the Dawn Way was easy and relatively quick. The road was quiet and free of traffic, due to the presence of the Hobgoblins spread throughout the The Witchwood. Roughly four miles into The Witchwood, Rhianna spotted a large shape moving in the woods off the side of the road. She signalled for the party to halt and prepare for battle. As the adventurers prepared to attack the unidentified shape they were flank attacked by another creature from the other side of the road. The party were now in combat with a pair of Trolls.

Rhianna and Sobeliss moved in and attacked the Troll that Rhianna had spotted. Meanwhile Skrat and the other members of the party attempted to halt the charge of the second Troll. Blows were traded between the Trolls and the adventurers, but no wounds that the party dealt to the Trolls seemed to be enough to take the beasts down.

Eventually Rhianna and Sobeliss dealt enough damage to the first Troll that it collapsed to the ground. The Fighter begun hacking the limbs and head from the body of the fallen creature and the Monk moved in to help the other party members with the second Troll. Krah cast Flaming Sphere and targetted the second Troll. The creature failed to evade the spell and when the sphere appeared, the Troll screamed in pain as it's flesh seared. Jason called out to Rhianna and told her to burn the remains of the first creature, as the flame from Krahs spell seemed to be dealing major damage to the second beast.

Rhianna was not carrying any oil flasks on her, so Sobeliss turned his attention to the now dismembered first Troll and aided the fighter with his flasks of oil. Rhianna set about lighting a torch with her tinderbox kit. Not having anyone of any substantial danger in front of it, the second Troll rushed Krah, and attacked. The Troll managed to hit the Druid, and tore away at his flesh. The Druid was mortally wounded but was able to maintain his concentration on his spell. The druid directed the sphere towards his adversary and the Troll again screamed in pain.

With the parts of the first Troll now fully engulfed in flames, Rhianna and Sobeliss turned towards the second Troll. Skrat attempted to move around the creature and get within reach of Krah, so that he could steal some of the Druids spell power, but the Troll simply smacked the Halfling aside like an annoying bug. The Troll then launched a full attack on the Druid. All three of the creatures attacks hit the Half-Orc Druid, and slew him where he stood. The Flaming Sphere spell dissipated and the Troll turned towards the spellthief.

Sobeliss and Rhianna had moved towards the Trolls location. Rhianna reached the creature and readied herself to strike at it with the now lit torch. Sobeliss threw a flask of oil to the Spellthief. Skrat stepped away from the Troll and caught the flask, and with a deft move spun on the spot and threw the flask at the Troll. The flask shattered against the creatures strong hide and oil covered it from head to waist. Jason then threw a second flask of oil at the Troll, and it too smashed againt the creature, coating it in oil. The Troll swung at Rhianna, but was unable to hit her. Rhianna then returned the favor and swung at the Troll with her lit torch. The oil on the Troll ignited and the creature roared in pain as it writhed around on the ground. Eventually dying.

The Druid was beyond help. His wounds were deep and severe. The Trolls strike had managed to peel the flesh from the chest of the Druid right down to his chest plate and ribs. Krah had been lost. The rest of his friends moved the body of the fallen Druid off the road and buried him in the nearby bushes. Rhianna and Jason slumped to the ground. After a long silence, Crystal spoke and asked what they were going to do now. With Krah deceased, there was no-one 'driving' the adventurers on. They were all here only because of Krah. Crystal and the others were seriously thinking of returning to Dulsin, and to their boring but safe lives. Rhianna stood and, looking at Jason for support, told the other members of the party that they would indeed be continuing this adventure. If for no other reason, than for the memory of their friend. Jason supported the idea and the other friends agreed that it would be the right thing to do. The friends said their last goodbyes to Krahs resting place, and continued on to find Jorr.

After the adventurers had found Jorr and been bailed up by his Hunting Dogs, they were able to obtain the Woodsmans aid as a guide for their journey through The Witchwood. The party were able to haggle with the Woodsman and he lowered his fee. Jorr enquired about their chosen destination, and the party advised the Woodsman that they needed to find an ancient keep. They were on a mission to retrieve a family heirloom that had been left there by a member fo their village. The Woodsman had no reason to doubt the party of advenurers and gladly led them in the direction of the keep.

The Dawn Way was disected by a tributary that flowed from the Elsir River. At this point in the Dawn Way, the adventurers had to cross a thin and slippery causeway. As they crossed the shallow walkway, Sobeliss spotted something half sunken into the swampy area. Rhianna and the Monk left the causeway and went to investigate the half sunken wagon. As the adventurers got closer, a Hydra reared out of the deeper part of the tributary and charged towards the Fighter and Sobeliss. The two friends turned and ran through the knee-deep swamp, back towards the causeway. They barely managed to reach the low walkway when the Hydra attacked. Unable to climb up onto the walkway itself, the two adventurers turned to face their foe. The rest of the adventurers on the walkway took aim with their spells and missile weapons and joined the fray. The Hydra was no match for the party and it was felled with ease. After investigating of the creature and the half sunken wagon, the party continued on it's way, under the guidance of Jorr.

The Keep loomed out of the forest canopy like a lone monolith standing guard over the area. With the setting sun behind the keep, a huge shadow was cast over this area of The Witchwood. The adventurers knew they had reached their goal.

The PC's arose with the morning sun. Their rest had been uninterrupted and each member felt fully invigorrated, and ready for the day ahead. The ruins of the Keep lay before them just a short walk up an overgrown path ahead.

Rhianna instructed Jorr to wait at the base of the path and to watch out for any approaching creatures, as the PC's advanced towards the keep. As the party of adventurers neared the front of the fortified building, they noticed a lone figure scrounging around in one of the ruined gate towers. Upon investigation and much conversation, the figure was introduced as a Male Human Sorcerer named Araxon Caine. Araxon's party had become disbanded in the Witchwood and the Sorcerer had made his way to the keep hoping to find his friends. After spending the night huddled in the ruined gate tower, the Sorcerer was preparing to investigate the keep proper and possibly hold up in the building until his friends arrived. After more conversation, the adventurers agreed to take Araxon into their party until such time as the Sorcerers friends caught up with them.

The party of adventurers with their newest member moved into the courtyard of the keep as quietly as possible. As Araxon moved towards the fallen body of a Forest Giant, the inhabitants of the keep spotted the Sorcerer and attacked. The party was engaged in combat by four Hobgoblin Veterans. Rhianna and Sobeliss were quick to close into melee with the Hobgoblins and with the support of the Ranger and the miriad of spells from Araxon and the Cleric, the adventurers were able to take early control of the battle. Jason noticed movement to his left and spun to see a Manticore appear from a hole in a nearby part of the keeps roof. The Ranger took aim and fired at the Manticore, striking the winged beast with two arrows. Meanwhile Rhianna and the Monk were bogged down in melee with the Hobgoblin Veterans. Araxon, Crystal and Skrat moved about in the courtyard to get better lines of fire at their different enemies. The Manticore flew into the air with a roar of pain and unleashed a volley of spikes into the courtyard. Massive amounts of damage were dealt to the Ranger, but he managed to stay his ground, and prepared to return fire at the winged beast flying above him.

With the Hobgoblin Veterans all but defeated and the Ranger locked in a ranged battle with the Manticore, Skrat and Araxon turned their attention towards the Manticore in order to help out their friend. As Crystal prepared to cast Cure Light Wounds on Jason, the door of the room behind her burst open and two Worg Riding Goblins appeared. Crystal completed her healing speall on Jason and turned to face the party's newest adversaries. Sobeliss broke away from combat with the last of the Hobgoblin Veterans and dashed across the courtyard and attacked the two Goblin Worg Riders in melee combat. Crystal moved around Jason and cast Bless on her friends. Skrat and Jason opened fire on the Manticore, wounding the beast. The Manticore returned fire with a hail of spikes and wounded Jason, Skrat, Crystal and Araxon with it's spread of spikes. Rhainna felled the last of the Hobgoblin Veterans and moved towards the Goblin Wolf Riders. Araxon cast Scorching Ray at the Manticore and severely wounded the flying creature forcing it to have to land on the roof of the room it had appeared from. The two Goblin Worg Riders were unable to harm Sobeliss.

With the Manticore now grounded, Jason took aim and killed the wounded creature. Araxon fired another Sorching Ray at the two Goblin Worg Riders, stunning one of them with an overpowering amount of damage. Crystal moved in and attacked the stunned Worg Rider and it's mount, killing the Worg where it stood. Sobeliss attacked the remaining Worg Rider and mount, stunning the second Worg. Skrat took aim and killed the first of the mounted Goblins. The Second Goblin was unable to hit the Monk with it's attack. As Rhianna moved through the room she was in, trying to get to the combat at hand, the door behind her exploded and showered the room in splinters and shards of wood. Standing in the doorway were a Minotaur and a Hobgoblin, the Hobgoblins hands were glowing with a magical energy. The Minotaur moved towards Rhianna but was unable to Bull Rush her. The Hobgoblin muttered an incantation and a sphere of flame appeared at Rhianna's back. The Fighter moved to the left and leapt over a broken table. The sphere of flame dissipated as Rhianna managed to avoid the effect of the spell.

In the ensuing round of fighting, Sobeliss and Rhianna closed in on the Minotaur and joined in melee combat with the large bovinian creature. Araxon, Jason, and Skrat all took aim at the Hobgoblin Sorcerer and pelted the creature with arrows, bullets, and spells. The Hobgoblin was forced back against a wall, but lived through the three attacks. Crystal moved in and cast another Cure Light Wounds on Jason, healing the Ranger even more. Once the Hobgoblin Sorcerer had steadied himself, he moved to get a better line of sight on the party members. The broken tables and other dtritus making movement particularly difficult. Sobeliss and Rhianna continued fighting the Minotaur, and killed it. As the bovine humanoid fell to the ground, it roared in broken common, "I have failed you Koth, get out while you can!" The Fighter and Monk then moved towards the Hobgoblin Sorcerer. The Ranger, Spellthief and Sorcerer all took aim at Koth once again, but all three PC's missed their attacks! With this chance now appearing to Koth, the Hobgoblin cast a Lightning Bolt spell. The electrical bolt leapt from the fingers of the Hobgoblin and struck Rhianna, Sobeliss, Araxon, Skrat, and Jason. Rhianna was unable to get out of the way of the bolt and fell to the ground unconcious. Sobeliss deftly moved aside as the bolt passed him by. Skrat was not as agile, and took the full brunt of the bolt also. He too fell to the ground. Araxon managed to step to the side at the last minute as did Jason, but both PC's still took damage, neither of them were knocked unconcious however.

With over half his friends mortally wounded or lying unconcious bleeding to death, Jason took aim at Koth as the Hobgoblin begun casting another spell. The Ranger Rapid Fired two arrows into the enemy Sorcerer, breaking his concentration on the spell and pinning Koth to the wall behind him. Koth was dead. Crystal quickly attended to her teammates wounds and cast what healing spells she had on her fallen and wounded comrades. After the PC's had regained conciousness, they did a quick a search of the surrounding areas of the keep, and then ventured upstairs in the main tower. The top room was empty aside from a strung up corpse which had been setup in such a way as too look like some sort of ghostly figure. The adventurers chose to rest at this location and after eight hours of uninterrupted rest, awoke late in the afternoon. They then continued to search the compound more thoroughly. A small trapdoor was located and the adventurers climbed down the ladder that was in the shaft.

Deep below the Keep was a chamber. After getting through the locked barred doors, the adventurers found the treasure of the keep. Along with all the treasure, the PC's also found alot of old paperwork. Amongst this was the Deed of Ownership for the Keep.

Along with a fair amount of history about the keep now learnt by the adventurers, they also found a map scrawled by the Hobgoblins, in another room. After studying the map the PC's realised that the they had stumbled onto an advanced scout basecamp. This advanced scout group was in place to aid in an all out war. With this gathered information, the PC's went back to Jorr (who had returned to his 'guard post' after the party had rested). The adventurers used a scroll that they had found in th Keeps dungeon, and summoned a mount for Jorr. They instructed their guide to return to Drellin's Ferry and warn the townsfolk of the impending attack. They themselves decided to follow the Hobgoblin Map, and advance towards Skull Gorge and attempt to slow the advancing horde at that location, by whatever means nessacary. They would meet back up with Jorr at the earliest possible time.

Once Jorr and his hounds had left the keep, the adventurers headed north. Following the directions on the roughly drawn map. Confusion reigned for a short a while thereafter. Following the map they had found, the adventurers came across a small river. Looking at the map, the only 'crossing' of any sort was SkullGorge. As the party of friends looked around the area for any possible guards, they were attacked by a wandering Manticore. The adventurers easily dispatched the winged beast, but the attack of the creature only fueled the party's confusion even more. Was the Manticore the guard? Is this river SkullGorge? Why is there a causeway at this location and not an 'actual bridge'? A few hours passed and as the afternoon light started to fade, Araxon took lead, momentarilly. After much conversation, and consternation, the Party agreed to move forward. An air of uncertainty hung over the party. Confusion and questioning again arose when the adventurers came to a fork in the road. Looking again at their crudely drawn map, the only fork or bend inthe road was after the location of SkullGorge. Their current location, and the map they were following lead two of the party members believing they had indeed gone past SkullGorge. Two other members wanted to push northward. While two other members of the party wanted to follow the overgrown path to the northwest. Points of view and arguments were put forward, but no-one could agree on which path to take. Eventually Rhianna acted. Taking firm control of the situation, Rhianna ordered her teammates to take the northwest, overgrown, path. The adventurers would travel in this direction until nightfall and would then camp, deciding in the morning what they would do. This choice, plus future actions, would prove to be the right decision.

As the adventurers pushed on, some complaining openly, and others throwing the Fighter dirty looks, night fell over the forest. Ahead of the party Rhianna noticed the faint glow of a fire burning. The PC's moved forward and found themselves looking out onto a scene of destruction. A once gigantic sized city/fortress lay before them in complete ruin. Sitting in the middle of what was a walled city was a giant roasting something over a large camp fire. Araxon recognised the Giant as a Forest Giant, and speaking the basic tongue of giants called out to it. The old giant looked up towards the location of the voice and reached nonchalontly for his huge weapon. The party advanced towards the Giant but did not draw their weapons. Crystal noticed markings on the Giants skin and realised that the huge humanoid was indeed ill. Through some extremely good Roleplaying (IMHO) and in the actions used by the party, including offering the Giant an item found in the Keeps dungeon and using their staff of life on the Giant to heal him of his illness, the adventurers were able to gain themselves an ally in the upcoming battle against this army known as The Red Hand. The Giant, Warklegnaw, offered to give the PC's any aid they required and set off to get the rest of his clan to help as well. The PC's stayed in the reletave safety of the ruined Giants Steading for the night.

In the morning they would head out towards what they now knew was SkullGorge.

Darkfather, do you find it very time consuming to set all those displays up? Or is it saving you time in game when you don't have to draw maps? If you do it before the session, how do you hide it from the PCs so they don't see beforehand, or does it not matter? Thanks ahead of time.

Heya gss_000;

Time consuming - Can be. Depending on the scenery/setup. (SkullGorge Bridge (coming soon) was quite easy, for example.

Saves time 'in game' - MOST DEFINITELY.

To hide or not to hide? - Depends again on the setup. with Vraath's Keep, I covered each section with 'black cardboard'. Then removed each peice as the PC's entered. With setups like Vraath's Keep and the Causeway terrain, there was no need to cover them up. Another good thing to do, IMHO, is (if you can't cover/hide a room/setup) is just to not put out any 'dressings' or minis that may be in the scenery. (Until the PC's enter said area).

I hope this helped.

Yup. I usually draw maps and have no talent with construction, but I like getting ideas to suggest to friends who do.

SkullGorge Bridge stretched over a one hundred foot section of the gorge itself. As the PC's neared the edge of the relative safety of the woods surrounding Dawn Way, the southern end of the bridge came into view. Flanked by two forty foot towers at either end, the bridge was a huge manmade construction, standing proudly over the gaping maw of the gorge below. Between the woods and the bridge stood nothing. A barren stretch of land some sixty feet wide lay between the PC's and the bridge towers. The PC's stood in awe for a moment then readied a plan to assault the bridge and it's inhabitants.

As the adventurers each made their way across the barren ground towards the bridge, they came under attack from the Bridges Guard. With the added defenses that the guards were able to make use of, the battle was a long fought affair. After taking heavy casualties from the Green Dragon that had taken post at the bridge, and the Hobgoblin guards and Hell Hounds, the PC's begun to win ground.

The adventurers push forward across the bridge begun to slow as reinforcements arrived and fought back the PC's. Sobelis the Elven Monk, managed to scale the stairs to one of the towers and was able to fell the Hobgoblin Veteran that had hailed down arrows ontop of the party. Araxon the Sorcerer took flight using his Celestial Sorcerer Wings and chased down the Green Draqgon, taking the beast out of the air with two castings of a Fireball spell. Rhianna, Sobeliss, Skrat, and Crystal slowly made their way across the bridge dodging incoming arrows and the melee threats of Hellhounds and a Hobgoblin Sergeant.

Eventually, the adventurers were able to clear the bridge of it's guards, and managed to find a weakness in the bridges construction, and destroyed it. With the rest of his teammates on the northern cliff of the gorge, Araxon again used his Celestial Sorcerer Wings to fly over the expanse of the gorge, and the group of PC's headed northwards toward the gathering horde.

(This single encounter took my players 5 1/2 hrs to complete, and rewarded them with enough XP to gain level 7 for each of the characters. This was a huge encounter, expertly set out in the adventure itself.)

@ Sage_Raistlin;

The grid is actually sewing thread stretched across my gaming table and held into place with tac's (extremely small nails) and then covered with a large plastic 'table-cloth'. The grass mat is permenantly bonded to the tabletop.

@ Vanrulzz;

What do you mean? Why am I using a Drunken Brawler? It is a proxy for an Elf Monk. (The best I can do).

**Sorry to all who have been keeping tabs on my party's advancement through this adventure. With the holiday season upon us, I haven't had a chance to put in the update for our last session. But that is about to be fixed....**

With the destruction of the SkullGorge Bridge, and the location of the Red Hand Horde, the adventurers headed back to Drellin's Ferry to appraise the locals of the situation. After telling Wiston of the upcoming danger to the settlement, the NPC's decided it best to have a meeting. The adventurers had a chance to sell off anything they had collected and to re-arm themselves with supplies. Whilst in Drellin's Ferry, waiting for the locals to get organised to hold the meeting, the PC's were caught up in some minor skirmishes ad ended up aiding in the defence of Drellin's Ferry.

The first attack came from the skies. The PC's were spread out all over town and individual members had to do battle with a Chimera, whilst waiting for their party members to arrive at the scene. The members not in the area were hampered by locals fleeing the scene, and were significantly slowed.

After the initial attack on the settlement by the Chimera, the locals hurriedly got their meeting organised and the PC's went along. After quite some hours of deliberation, intimidation, and diplomacy, the PC's were able to direct the flow of the meeting so as to help the locals come to the realisation that fleeing was the right plan. As the meeting came to a close, everyone figured that rest would be in order, as it was late at night, and the evacuation of Drellin's Ferry could start in earnest forst thing in the morning.

This wasn't going to happen quite like the PC's had planned it. Horns sounded around Drellin's Ferry, the settlement was under attack. The PC's along with the available mitlitia scrambled to cross the river to get to the eastern side of Drellin's Ferry, where Goblin Worg Riders and other creatures had attacked. With his Celestial Wings, the Sorcerer flew across the expanse of water and proceeded to Fireball a group of the attackers. The rest of the PC's arrived shortly after on the eastern bank and the attacking scouting party was 'eventually' defeated.

With the settlement defended for now, plans were put in place immediately and the evacuation order was given. Drellin's Ferry was left as nothning but a ghost town, with only a few remaining people and the Militia. Even the Miltiia wasn't planning on staying. They were only there to cover the rear of the line of fleeing citizens.

The PC's were prepared to go with the people of Drellin's Ferry, but upon further investigation of the map they had gotten from Vraath's Keep, the PC's noticed a name. Another Wyrmlord. It was located to the North, and from the look of the map, there was nothing to stop any advancement from that area directly to the capitol of Brindol. The PC's headed out from Drellin's Ferry in an eastward direction, and were planning to head north towards the Rhest Trail.

I haven't read the entire thread yet but I have looked at all the pictures.  Let me just say that I think that is a really cool set-up you have going there.

It looks like it would be a lot of fun to play in.

Heya All;

After an unbearably long hiatus from our gaming, my group has finally organised to have another session (in a few hours actually). I thought about it and realised that I hadn't posted about the last session, so here goes. This won't be as in depth (as it happened so long ago that I can barely remember myself what happended. Thanks gawd for pics kept on my digi camera).

After sucsessfully defending Dremil's Ferry for as long as was possible, the party decided it best to leave the flailing town to it's demise, and to better concentrate on aiding those who wished to leave.

Once the townsfolk were evacuated, the PC's decided to move north to see what was happening in that region. Their map they had found in the tower showed possible movement of enemy forces in that direction, and the players thought it best to try and halt any advance that may be coming down on Brindol.

The party came across the edge of a huge swamp area, but the way ahead was blockaded by Ogres and other creatures. The adventurers, using the surrounding land t their advantage, were able to best the creatures at the blockade and free up the immediate area, so that they could continue on.

After the PC's rested for a short while, they left the Blockade and ventured in to the swamplands. Not long after they encountered a nesting Greenspawn Razorfiend. Jason begun this section of the adventure ust as we have all become accustomed. First shot with his bow, he shot himself in the foot...

Once much laughter had been enjoyed by the other characters/players the fight continued. The Razorfiend lunged toward the adventurers and breathed a cone of acid on them. Destroying Jasons Longsword and heavily injuring him in the process. The sorcerer and Spellthief also too damage from the acidic breath weapon. In retaliation, Rhianna dealt a mighty blow to the Razorfiend nearly felling it in one hit. The sudden amount of damage caused the creature to stumble back and it was unable to act. The rest of the party quickly dispatched the beast.

Not long after defeating the Razorspawn, 5 Giants Owls arrived, ridden by Wild Elves, while the adventurers where searching the nearby area.

After conversing with the Elves, the party was escorted to the village of the Tiri Kori. There the adventurers were able to learn a little more about their destination, Rhest.

Once the party had organised themselves and recieved healing, they headed towards thew sunken ruin city of Rhest.

The players got their first taste of water-borne combat at this point. Through the length of the battle at the Bell Tower, it became obvious that the Monk and Spellthief were terrible swimmers. The Ranger, when he could aim properly, was devastating with his bow, and the Sorcerer has a deep seeded fear of water, as everythime he was needed to make a balance check, he failed, but instead of hitting the water, wings would spring forth from his back?!

The adventurers eventually defeated the troops in the Bell Tower and the Lizardmen from the shore camps. When they enetered the Town Hall, the party found themselves face to face with 6 Ogres. Each PC's diety must have been thankful for the laughs up until now, as the characters dispatched the Ogres with unbelievable ease (read - LUCK!). Once the PC's had defeated the inhabitants of the Town Hall they ventured out to the Razorfiend Hatchery, where they easily dispatched the nesting Razorfiend and were able to detroy all it's eggs.

Upon returning to the village of the Tiri Kori, the PC were able to gain the favor of the Elves and had managed to get themselves another ally in the war against the Red Hand. The party now headed south towards the tomb of the Ghostlord.

Woah! So much has happened since my last installment! Let's see if I can't catch up to tonights session....

After gaining the favor of the Elves, the adventurers headed southward to the Ghostlords lair, brimming with confidence. That confidence would soon dissipate however. During the party's raid of the Ghostlords lair and killing of the Ghostlord, the Sorcerer was slain by the Ghostlord himself. The party managed to rescue two people who were locked up in the lair (lucky eh? - since they needed to replace a lost character), and these two new adventurers joined the party.

With their numbers now bolstered with the addition of a Warlock and a Fighter, the party left the Lair of the Ghostlord. As they were deciding what to do next, Rhianna recieved a mental message from the Lord of Brindol, asking them to make way to the City post haste.

Upon getting to Brindol, the party members were called to a council meeting where their abilities of diplomacy and leadership were required to halt some foolish choices being made by the locals. Unbeknownst to the PC's, their choice of holding all of Brindols Clerics in a single location was not the smartest move. Their first order in the defense of Brindol was halting the bombardment attacks of 4 Hill Giants who were attempting to breach one of Brindols walls. This, the PC's managed to do quite easily. Upon returning to the city's streets, they then had to deal with a Large Red Dragon and help to curb it's destruction of the buildings in Brindol.

This was not carried out so well, and the newly joined Warlock fell in battle to the Dragon. Once the Dragon had been defeated and the fires quelched, the adventurers were required to hold a street that provided a direct route to the city market areas (currently being used as training grounds for Brindols soldiers). With the amount of assisstance provided by the city of Brindol, the PC's were able to easily stem the tide of the Horde.

**It was after this set of encounters, that the PC's levelled to level 9**

Whilst tending to their wounds, Rhianna recieved another ental message, but this one was broken and confusing. The PC's deducted that they were needed at the Cathedral in the center of town and headed out as quickly as possible. Upon arrival, the Fighter, Max, was pierced with two poison arrows. The party was unable to discern the direction of the attack, and hurredly entered the relative safety of the cathedral as a hail of arrows fell around them and hit the Cleric and Spellthief. Once inside they found out that Immerstal the Red had been killed and Lord Jarmaath had been ortally wounded. It was up to the PC's to find and route the sniper which had now all but broken the will and organsiation of the Brindol forces.

Through use of the 'Roman Turtle' manouvre, the adventurers made their way safely to the area the arrows had been coming from and found that one of the boarded up buildings had been forcibly entered. Oce they entered the building they were ambushed and attacked with two Lightning Bolt spells. After gaining their bearings, and realising that the Cleric was dying (reduced to -8hp before self-stabalising) the PC's quickly dispatched those responsible.

**Now my personal favourite bit (funniest bit) of the whole adventure thus far**

Having found a stairwell leading up to the above level of the building, Max took the lead and barrelled up the stairs to confront the sniper. Not even 3 steps later and the fighter fell back into the lower level of the building, his feet bleeding and him unable to move. The stairs ahead of the PC's had been coated in Caltrops. With Max effectively unable to participate, The Ranger stayed in the dowstairs section with Max while the rest of the party made their way up the stairs. The Spellthief took the lead and cleared the stairwell of any further caltrops (well at least thats what he thought).

Rhianna and the Spellthief managed to make it upstairs without any problems. Unfortunately, a new party member, a Psion Telepath, was not so lucky. The Spellthief had actually missed one whole section of the stairs and the Psion found the caltrops. With the pain of the Caltrop still inbedded in his foot, the Psion was unable to concentrate fully on his psychic powers (He kept failing constantly, so we declared it must've been from the pain of the caltrop - ROFL).

Rhianna went through one door into a room and begun lighting the torches in the room. The Spellthief entered a different room and was sneak attacked by a Blackspawn Ninja. The Spellthief fell to the floor with only 1 Strength point left, and was effectively (physically) left to lay there as a vegetable. Rhianna moved into the room to protect the Spellthief, but the accoster was nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, the Blackspawn had fleed through an upstairs window, had clibed down the outside of the building, and had come back in on the lower level, catching Max and the Ranger by surprise. Max was sneak attacked, but had enough of his wits about him to be able to strike back in quick succsession. The Blackspawn fleed the are (on only 1 hp), and dissapeared into the city streets.

The PC's worked their way back to the Cathedral where wounds were healed and preperations were made for whatever came next. Outside the Cathedral, noises of buildings being detroyed, rubble flying everywhere, and men screaming in pain, errupted. The PC's ventured out to find themselves and some remaining defenders face to face with the Hordes Wyrmlord and his personal retinue. The Wyrmlord shouted insults and challenges at the PC's and before they could respond 4x large javelins were hurled in their direction by unseen assailants.

The final battle for Brindols freedom/safety was hard fought. Many of the PC's were heavily injured and most of the defenders were slain, but the forces of Brindol and the PC's won the day. After getting seen to by the remaining Cathedrals Clerics the adventurers were finally allowed some real rest. The threat to Brindol had been overcome, or at least that's what the party thought.

During the festivities the folowing day, Rhianna was approached by the now healed Lord Jarmaath, and was aksed for one final favour. The PC's were required to infiltrate the Thane of Tiamat and put a final stop to the Horde, by killing it's true leader. After being informed of all pertinent information, the PC's agreed to this final deed and were teleported to an area close to Vraath's Keep. Unfortunately for the PC's, since their cleansing of the Keeps inhabitants early in this campaign, a Behir had moved in and made the keep it's lair. The PC's needed to do some house cleaning...

The battle was surprisingly hard fought for the PC's and with both fighters devoured by the Behir, the party's Psion Mind Thrusted the huge beast and killed it. Max was able to cut himself free, but Rhianna had not equiped herself for such an ordeal. Eventually the adventurers managed to free Rhianna and they then took solitude in the keep overnight.

**Too much resting not enough moving!!!!!!**

The next day the adventurers headed out for the Thane. Along the way, climbing through the mountains, the party was attacked by a strange eyeless greeen/yellow flying creature. Seemingly annoyed at this interruption to their advance, the ranger basically sniped the creature as it dove in for another attack on the party, killing the beast outright. The adventurers didn't dally around, and continued their march to the Thane.

Upon reaching the Thane of Tiamat, the PC's were faced with an awe inspiring sight. A 5-headed Dragon Chisseled from the fery mountainside itself. Once the PC's had settled and realised what they were dealing with they began to try and work out what best to do. At this time they were threatened by an unseen adversay, and then attacked by a previously hidden Large Blue Dragon, which came dangerously close to killing 3 of the adventurers.

With the combat eventually bested the PC's through sheer luck, were able to work out how to enter the Thane and did so. Once inside, they fought 2x Blue Abishia's and 2x Zombie Wyverns. They then moved on and encountered a total of 16 Blackspawn Raiders. After that engagement, they then fought a Bone Devil. Upon the death of the Outsider, they found locked up in one of it's cells, a naked heavily wounded and fatigued Female Halfling. After healing the female humanoid and questioning her, the adventurers decided to allow her to join the party.

At this time, the party now consists of 6 PC's.

Rhianna, Female Human Fighter (9)
Jason, Male Human Ranger/Bow Initiate (7/2)
Skrat, Male Halfling Spellthief/Assassin (8/1)
Elina, Female Half-Elf Cleric (9)
Zodiac, Male Human Psion Telepath (9)
Sukura, Female Halfling Ninja (9)
