I picked up the Deck of Many Things by Green Ronin Publications.

For $9.95, it's not a bad accessory for role-playing.  the cards are on good card stock, and are shuffleable.  the art work is very nice and reminiscent of tarot cards.Â

The product includes 2 rules cards.  One side has the ubiquitous D20 SRD and on the other side appears to be the description of the magic item from the SRD (exactly written except for creation information, and notes a tabel where you can use a normal playing card deck - the table doesn't exist).  It also has a table that has a brief summary.

The other card has brief descriptions of each card.  This has to be used in conjunction with the table on the other card.  For example, drawing the Jester, the description says "This card is always discarded when drawn, unlike all others except the fool.  The additional draw is optional."

However, looking at the summary table, the Jester has the following effect: "gain 10,000 XP or two more draws from the deck".

This method of reference is annoying at best having to look in two different places for the rules.  Of course one can always use the DMG.

It's a nice product, and if you really like this kind of thing for your games, I would recommend picking it up.Â

I also bought the cards at the same time I picked up the 3-Dragon Ante cards last month. Nice set that for a good price, sure the 'Deck of Many Things' is a artifact rarely to be used. But with these cards you may find yourself tempted to bring them into your campaign....at least until your Wizard selects Dungeon and tears them up!

I bought the deck of many things too. It doesn't come up very often but the times that it had I regretted using playing cards - it looked cheesy. This is a good product for $10. WOTC should have made this years ago.

My only complaint (and it's a small one) is I would have liked the cardstock to be a little thicker. Not so thick that you can't shuffle them but just a little thicker so they feel a bit more substantial.

I agree. I would rather of had them as "plates" rather than "cards" though. Something much thicker that just standard card stock.

Am I the only person who just used the old Dragon magazine DoMT? Heck, the artwork's better on that version anyway (at least in my opinion, of course).

I really like the art of the new DoMT, but I have to agree with you that the old Dragon version was more appropriate.
