| | Does anyone know if WotC has said anything about the duskblade having Simple Weapon proficiency? I think this is the first time I have found a class that has martial wpn proficiency, but does not have simple wpn proficiency.
Lacking simple wpn proficiency may actually fit better for class flavor in this instance. I had just not expected to ever find a class with martial and without simple wpn proficiency until I was reading more closely.

| Why bother learning how to wield a club when you already know how to wield a greatsword? 
I imagine it has something to do with class flavor. The Duskblade is a specifically martial variant caster: martial weapons, martial spells, and a martial character.
As gss_000 pointed out Duskblades are "so specialize[d] in [a martial] fighting style that it never learned how to swing a tree branch (club) well."
