| So, I go searching through the Monster Manual v3.5, & lo and behold there isn't an actual template for Dire Animals. Apparently WoTC decided to take a couple of animals and magically make them Dire, which makes aboslutely no sense to me. So, with that knowledge, has anyone tried to make a Dire Template? Even if you've not discovered one yet, I would love to see any efforts made on the part of creating a template. Thanks for any and all comments! | | | |

| I don't find it so surprising that there is no template to be frank. Vampires and liches and zombies all evolve from a base creature; half-fiends and such offer race adjustments for classes that are of that race. Whereas dire animals are a race of their own that do not stem from a base animal nor are they a race to be added to a class or something, animals don't transform into their dire counterparts. In that respect, i think it is normal for an absence of a "dire template", at least as far as i understand templates.

| | Ok, I can understand that perspective. Although, why do Dire Animals always stem from a base standard animal from the Monsters Manual. If you look in expanded books like, Races of Wild, or similar books, why does the dire form always stem from another root animal. In many cases, why doesnt WoTC list every animal, w/ an alternate Dire Conversion? It really just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, for them not to create a Dire Template. I will see if I can locate a dire template, or create one of my own that follows game mechanics. Thanks for the response though, as any is appriciated. | | | |

| I understand what you want to do. If you're running an aquatic game and need a Dire Sting-Ray and there isn't one in the books, you need to be able to create one.
I can't help you out since I don't know how to create Dire Animals, but have you looked in Savage Species? I own the book but have never even opened it (I'm not big on making monster races). Maybe something in there might help you.

| Just looking through the MMI animals and their dire counterparts, there is no set change. Just looking at HD there is a variety of changes. Some get +3 HD, some +4, AC changes but not in a standard way, etc. If someone tries to accomplish this template, good luck. | | Completed trades: blackthorne, Drakkengi,Thorgrin, Ironfist Boulderbender x2, ckissee, nasamonkey, Username, Star, Ace13 x3, emontedodger x2, Drconveyor, church, Joeyb, Sir Bozak The Damned, Xeromod, the other guy x2, Qucalion of Celene, Dagaron x2, berus316, qillan_dvra, AshloreDarkShadow
