| | Does a creatures flyby attack provoke an attack of opportunity if it doesn't have melee reach greater than 5ft? | | John

| Yes. Flyby isn't like Rideby even though they are similar in name. This fact has taken down many of my creatures in games. | | Completed trades: blackthorne, Drakkengi,Thorgrin, Ironfist Boulderbender x2, ckissee, nasamonkey, Username, Star, Ace13 x3, emontedodger x2, Drconveyor, church, Joeyb, Sir Bozak The Damned, Xeromod, the other guy x2, Qucalion of Celene, Dagaron x2, berus316, qillan_dvra, AshloreDarkShadow

| Thanks you. Seems like there isn't that much of a benefit to flyby attack other than the creature being able to avoid getting swarmed by melee attacks. | | John

| Well, it does mean they can get out of range for any close spells or weapons with limited range. They also benefit if they are large since they don't provoke unless the character has a reach weapon. Lastly you can see it as a trade off trading one AoO for multiple full rounds if you base characters.
It's great in combination with grapple attacks. Flyby and initiate a grapple, continue moving and potentially drop a PC from a height or deal with him/her by themselves. | | Completed trades: blackthorne, Drakkengi,Thorgrin, Ironfist Boulderbender x2, ckissee, nasamonkey, Username, Star, Ace13 x3, emontedodger x2, Drconveyor, church, Joeyb, Sir Bozak The Damned, Xeromod, the other guy x2, Qucalion of Celene, Dagaron x2, berus316, qillan_dvra, AshloreDarkShadow

I would have thought the "Snatch" feat would be required for this purpose. And according to that feat the creature has to be at least a Huge and can only use the feat on a much smaller opponent, medium or under I'm assuming. | | John

| | You're probably right. I was going by memory and I am most likely misremembering. | | Completed trades: blackthorne, Drakkengi,Thorgrin, Ironfist Boulderbender x2, ckissee, nasamonkey, Username, Star, Ace13 x3, emontedodger x2, Drconveyor, church, Joeyb, Sir Bozak The Damned, Xeromod, the other guy x2, Qucalion of Celene, Dagaron x2, berus316, qillan_dvra, AshloreDarkShadow
