| In the case of a helmed horror for example, one of the spells he is immune to is fireball. Now suppose a caster uses Energy Substitution on his fireball to change the energy type to something else, it's still a fireball spell, so the helmed horror is still immune to it despite the change of energy type right? | | John

| | Right. Metamagic does not change the basic spell, so spell immunity still holds. The only case where it might not is if a creature is immune to say 3rd or lower spells and a spell is heightened to 4th level or more. | | Completed trades: blackthorne, Drakkengi,Thorgrin, Ironfist Boulderbender x2, ckissee, nasamonkey, Username, Star, Ace13 x3, emontedodger x2, Drconveyor, church, Joeyb, Sir Bozak The Damned, Xeromod, the other guy x2, Qucalion of Celene, Dagaron x2, berus316, qillan_dvra, AshloreDarkShadow

| | I dont see how if fire is changed to lets say lightning the helmed horror would still be immune to it. isn't that the whole reason of having that metamagic feat so you can have the ability to change the energy type so you can get around immunities of creatures? | | Thanks, realmaster. Let's split up!!!!!

| | Immunities to fire, yes, but immunity to the spell is different. The spell hasn't changed. It's still in essence fireball, even though it is doing electricity damage. Toward the spell fireball, not the element type, the helmed horror has unbeatable SR. If it had fire immunity, then giving it the electricity descriptor would allow the spell to go through. | | Completed trades: blackthorne, Drakkengi,Thorgrin, Ironfist Boulderbender x2, ckissee, nasamonkey, Username, Star, Ace13 x3, emontedodger x2, Drconveyor, church, Joeyb, Sir Bozak The Damned, Xeromod, the other guy x2, Qucalion of Celene, Dagaron x2, berus316, qillan_dvra, AshloreDarkShadow

| Realmaster: to add to what gss_000 said, everything is in the description of the Helmed Horros's immunities: it is stated that he is immune to the spell "fireball", not to fire. If you cast "fireball" but modify it with whatever you feel like modifying it with, it's still called "fireball" and consequently the helmed horror is still immuned to it.
