Did anyone in here ever played a warlock (in the complete arcane book I think) ?
If so how was it ? (over/underpowered, strong points and weaknesses, good multiclass combos, useful skills and feats, etc.)

I played one for about 8 months and I think that by itself the Warlock isn't as good as a normal spellcaster. In my opinion I was the most powerful PC in the group but that was because of taking the leadership feat and the Mindbender prestige class. My cohort (sorcerer) was more powerful than I was and I permanently charmed a high level fighter into being my bodyguard and a few sessions before the end of the campaign I charmed an enemy cleric into following me as well. I had my own little entourage going. But without the leadership feat and Mindbender class - I would just have been a decent backup arcane guy.

I played in a group with a warlock and I didn't think they were okay in terms of power balance. To rely on them as the primary spellcaster is a mistake, but as a 5th or 6th party member they are great. Their invocations aren't as good as some spells, pond per pond, and the lack of area effects sometimes are problematic, but that is balanced by the fact that they don't have to worry about saves as much or elemental resistance and that can be very useful. Against one creature they are really good, and it is only at higher levels that they are effective against multiple targets at once. It's a neat class to play.

I've played with a Warlock before and it seemed balanced. I find them a bit limited, but I also feel that way about Sorcs. It's a one trick pony, but the trick is pretty good.

You know, I keep thinking that after the new design team gets done with D&D 4e, D&D won't stand for Dungeons and Dragons anymore, because well, that's just not fun. It's old and stuffy. - Originally Posted by BabWryter on Kenzerco.com
