| I was going to pick this up, but all the reviews I've read rate it incredibly low...anyone actually bought one? What are you opinions? | | Shottglazz "Take my love, take my land, take me where I cannot stand; I don't care, I'm still free, you can't take the sky from me."

| If you want and regularly use a DM screen it's probably worth picking up. It's designed to be more "face friendly" so the layout is landscape making it easier to look over the screen at your players. Unfortunately, this layout sacrifices a lot in terms of usability and ends up taking up a LOT of table space.
If you aren't in constant need of quick charts for rules I would give it a pass. | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. Commander (#32) in only 6 months. Where's my pie? Champion of Dwarven Thunderlashers Knight of the Large Dire Chicken Have/Want List Trade References | |

| I see people ask about this (piece of crap) every so often. And ever
since I bought it the day it came out (and returned it the day after it
came out) I've always jumped at the chance to warn them to save their
money.
It's a landscape layout which some people seem to like. It's not a bad layout, but I prefer the original taller version.
The thing that ticked me off about the screen is the cost vs the
content they provided us on the screen. The screen has no inventory
prices for equipment PC's might buy. In fact, most of the charts it
does have is a complete waste. Nothing that you would use on a regular
basis. They also waste a LOT of space. They could cram twice as much
info on that screen but instead all the charts are spaced far apart;
wasting a lot of space.
The reason someone would use the screen is to quickly access charts so
you don't need to flip through the PHB. Seeing as how they only have
about half of the charts that are useful, you still end up flipping
through the PHB all the time.
WotC also wastes your money by including a Modern DM screen with the
package. So you're forced to spend the extra money on an entire DM
Screen that you probably wouldn't use.
Basically, this is the only D&D product I ever bought that pissed
me off and caused me to return it. It was a ripoff. I ended up making
my own DM Screen with way more info and more useful info.
If you're interested, I can send you the link to the screen I made. I
just taped it to an old 2e screen I had. Or you can use a binder folder
or something.

| Sure thing, here is my old version:

I've been working on an updated version that has more armor types, poisons, and various other things. I'll eventually completely redo the PC/NPC chart and make it much smaller and add even more useful info to that side of the screen. I just haven't had time to do it yet.

| Oryan,
My group had its' first game with your screen last night. It helped a lot, thanks. The sections you made with the various DC tables were especially helpful. | | Shottglazz "Take my love, take my land, take me where I cannot stand; I don't care, I'm still free, you can't take the sky from me."

| Thanks guys, I'm glad you like them. This thread actually inspired me to finish updating that DM Screen and put prepping my campaign on hold
So far I've completely rearranged the skill tables around and fit almost all of them on 1 screen. Then I stuck the rules tables on the 2nd screen with the armor chart. Right now I'm trying to figure out how I can add my LONG list of potions and my new animal mount chart to the screen.
I also thought of a neat idea for the PC stat charts. I never liked the one I made for the screen since I never use half the info on them. I also realized quickly that I kept having to change them when players quit, PC's die, new players join, ect ect. So I thought about sticking those clear plastic baseball card sleeves horizontally on the screen and making card inserts that I can slide into them. The inserts will have PC stats that I like to reference while DM'ing. I hope it works out. I'll take a screenshot of it if I get it done.
